Entry 5 - My Sporting Dream Podcast
For my fifth emerging media production portfolio entry I undertook the task of creating a podcast labelled ‘My Sporting Dreams’.
There are now over 1 million podcasters in the world and in March 2018, Apple Podcasts passed 50 billion all-time episode downloads and streams (Winn 2020 & Locker 2018)
I really enjoyed this activity once I got the hang of Adobe Audition, I used the multitrack section was able to important sound effects and music tracks and use crossfading which added quality to my end product. I also watched some other content and was able to lower music volume on the background while playing sport commentary over the top. Overall, I’ve greatly developed my ability within the program which I will prove to be useful in the future.

Although many sporting organisations already use podcasts, there are still many that don’t, and it’s seen these days as a great way to connect with fans and get more news, information and content across to listeners in a simple and efficient/effective way.
As said before, the sporting fan can listen to a niche podcast wherever and whenever they like whether it be one about an AFL club or a Bundesliga 2 team. There are thousands of sporting podcasts out there for all fans.

Entry 4+5 - Edited Golf Video (w/ Lower Third Graphics)
My fourth/fifth entry for this assignment was editing and adding lower third graphics an instructional golf video in the program, Premiere Pro.
https://youtu.be/OlEru2GOfYw
Video has become extremely popular and learning and educational content alone drives over a billion views a day on YouTube (Simon 2019).
High technical quality programs like Adobe Premiere Pro is making it easy for average users to develop improved video content which has proved to be the most consumed type of media (Roininen et al. 2016).
From undertaking this task, I learnt how to sync audio from two different clips, male cuts between two different camera angles, render the end video as an mp4 and do colour grading with Lumetri colour. Although I struggled matching the sky colour for the different camera shots, I got the hang of what needs to be done in the future.
Adding the lower third graphics was quite simple after locating where the effects were. The graphics and effects that can be added to a video enhance it majorly.
Sporting organisation already have media teams that edit and create videos for their supporters and are found across all social media platforms, especially YouTube. As we know, videos are heavily viewed by users and any sport organisation that posts lots of video content is likely to gain high numbers in terms of engagement through likes, comments, shares, etc.
Edited videos can add to the sport fan experience as those who are professionals in the media section of a sporting organisation can create unique and diverse content, specifically tailored to their fans.

Entry 3 - Photoshop
Instagram is a social media powerhouse and the platform has the ability to draw people in and keep them engaged for extended periods of time (Kowalksi 2018).
When matched with Photoshop, the possibilities of creating deep and flexible content are endless and provide users with millions of photos, edited or not (Salvesen 2018).
This activity helped me gain much more information about the Photoshop program which is evident in the photos. I used many technical elements in the program and will continue to develop my abilities.
This type of emerging media has proven to be very important and influential for sporting organisation. Sports teams and leagues use/can use this program to create aesthetically pleasing edits/wallpapers, funny/interesting content and dynamic photos.
Fans can benefit from viewing this type of emerging media as they can see top quality edits and photos of their favourite teams and players and can see dynamic mock-ups such as players in other teams jerseys, proposed logos for new franchises, etc.
My first post is reflective of the 2020 NFL draft in which I used a picture of former ‘Sooner’ and newly drafted Cowboy, CeeDee Lamb. These types of edits come across a lot during draft periods, so I tried it out.
My next two photos are based off pictures I took myself to see how what I could do with them to make them viable Instagram posts for sport teams. One shows a Timberwolves banner that I turned into a post to encourage Minnesota fans to get artistic at home during lockdown and the second comes from the AFL to encourage fans to get out their jerseys and show their support for the players that aren’t able to play at the moment.

Entry 2 - Mock Application
Developed mobile and wireless technologies have allowed new forms of convergence that permits users to consume plenty of dynamic information (Drula 2014). The importance of mobile phones in our everyday life and activities is undeniably unending and they also have the ability to cater for various niches (Oza 2017). That’s why I decided to create a mock-up application for the VAFA club I am involved with – St. Bedes/Mentone Tigers FC.

During this activity I used other sporting apps for some inspiration and ideas, mainly the NFL and NHL ones, when creating my SBMT mock-up.
Because I didn’t use a specific program to make an app, no technical skills were gained, however I took more notice of how apps are formatted and what the best sport apps include.
This type of emerging media would greatly benefit the football club as their fans that can’t attend games would feel valued as SBMT would be able to update scores and news through the app. They would also be able to produce a lot of content, offers and links that are streamlined for users that may result in more merchandise & membership sales and attendances at social events.
This would add a real game-day feel for those involved with the club as they would be able to check out things about their own club (whether there a player, fan, etc.) that they would normally be able to do with the teams they support, i.e Richmond, Carlton. Fans would also be able to view highlights and look at stats through the game and post-game, adding to the list of things fans can access through the app, anywhere, any time.

Entry 1 - Interactive Article
Interactive content is a great way of engaging an audience (Bull 2016). With media convergence, traditional media platforms can go online and make it possible for their consumers to spend more time with their content, produced by the media institution whether this be from something like a newspaper company or a television news network (Kadar & Konczey 2014).

Interactive articles are a great way to give readers the chance to experience something that isn’t all text, all video or all audio and are able to be informed and entertained in simple yet dynamic ways.
My article, named ‘An Elite Revolution: A Short History Of AEW’, is as you can guess, a short history of a relatively new pro-wrestling promotion in the United States. From developing this article, I learnt how to embed a range of different aspects such as YouTube videos, picture slideshows and GIFs as well as various ways of formatting on WordPress.
For a sporting organisation, something like an interactive article would serve them well as they have the ability to feature many different types of content into one article whether it be links to their social media accounts to get the article readers on board or images of merchandise that may appeal to readers.
This type of emerging media adds to the experience as a fan because an article could feature highlights, intriguing infographics and unseen photos which would likely appeal to fans of that specific sport/team/league.
