Poked Bock Beer

I read an article a few years back about poked beer and wrote it off as a novel idea. Yesterday I had my first poked bock beer at August Schell’s Brewing Tap Invasion at Washington Square Bar & Grill in White Bear Lake Minnesota. The change in nose and taste are instantaneous as the hot iron poker caramelizes sugars and produces a rich foamy head. It’s something to feel your glass vibrate from rapid boiling and seeing foam instantly expand to fill the glass. If having a poked bock beer sounds appealing I suggest you join the festivities where locals and visitors beckon warmer weather during Bock Fest on March 8 2018, 11 am to 4:30pm at the brewery.

 August Shell’s Brewing Company, on the cusp 160 years of German brewing tradition was founded in 1860 next to the Cottonwood River in New Ulm, Minnesota. If you’re an enthusiast of German Holidays like Bock Fest and Oktoberfest this one of a handful of places in North America where traditions thrive.
