Just finished the to crown a king demo and wow this game is dark and depressing (I love it 🥰). I wanted to know more about mc’s mom. Why was she so tolerant of lord Goldwyn being so horrible to her and mc who’s he also becomes predatory towards?, from having a mistress and even being able to decide for her in a life or death emergency, especially since she’s the ruling lady and he’s a second son who married into her family, does the simple fact he’s her husband mean he can get away with it?. I really hope he at the very least has to keep her last name and be reminded he only got this from basically murdering his wife.

oh and as a bonus question why did he want to marry MC?, just casually cause he’s a predator or because he also wants the legitimacy bonus of marrying the previous lady’s wife?

unfortunately, yes 😔 through marriage, he is the lawful head of the house. it doesn't always happen though, see emeric's parents where his dad still defers to his mom

when he said he 'gave up his family name', it means that their children would've been given the name 'de clare' instead of 'atte stone', not that he changed his last name. since helewyse passed, and mc is an illegitimate child, goldwyn is the next-of-kin, and so heredunn is now under his name 😩

he wanted to marry mc for a bunch of reasons -- tying up loose ends so even if mc somehow got legitimized, he would still keep the title, it's politically expedient because now he can claim his heirs still have de clare blood, because mc is still a child and easy to control so he can do whatever he wants and she wouldn't know any better, because he's still salty he married a scandalous woman to climb the social ladder 🙄

Just read To crown a King and the grip it had on me I just want to protect sweet MC. Is this is gonna be a pick your lesser of two evils in terms of the two RO? I intend to do both paths but Goscelin jesus I was side eyeing him the whole time since he met mc you did a great job portraying his and MCs relationship like a wolf in sheep's clothing to me. Waiting like a damn predator for his chance and if you play an mc who's naive/likes him and goes along with the bj ugh it's so bad (in a good writing sort of way)I liked that she can still feel shame or confused despite liking him but shit I was disgusted for myself and my Amabel I had to go back and do the I'm tired option. I'm very interested to see the dynamic with MC and Emeric. I feel like since he's a "weapon" his route might have more physical violence but at the same time Gos seemed like he's definitely not gonna let MC tell him no again.

Anyway I just want to say I love stories that evoke a lot of emotions for MC and other characters and I'm can't wait to read more of TCAK.

so for the romance, if we're gonna call it that, kind of? going with goscelin will protect mc's peace (believe it or not), while emeric's is very angry and painful but exceedingly honest. think a dressed-up and comfortable lie versus the bleeding truth.

yeah, that scene honestly was really hard to write 😅 even in the most positive way mc can feel about it, it's still mired in shame and humiliation and discomfort because it was rape. goscelin knew that mc had no idea what he wanted, and that she's not really in a position where she can reject him. he's such a piece of shit mc should've bit his dick off

finished the demo! some thoughts i had while reading:

helewyse, hamelin and henry forever in my heart i just know mc misses them like crazy. the world in her eyes was kinder with the three of them in it, not a coincidence that after you took them out everything started to go to hell for mc!

what is the king's deal I can't stand his rancid vibes at all, he acts like helewyse and mc owe him or smth. bro you benefited from a 15-years-old, left her pregnant, didn't acknowledge her or the child for years, and when you return you treat her and said child like that? helewyse should've been allowed to commit a little regicide, as a treat.

gritting my teeth at the thought of lord goldwyn. with what right does he presume to have that attitude? as a second son on top of all! if helewyse hadn't been in a hurry to marry he wouldn't be where he is today. the most infuriating part is that he dared to have those thoughts about mc (to continue holding the title that belonged to her mother? AGH) i really want to reclaim the title and the holdings—the last traces of helewyse are still there, like hell if i'm willing to let that bastard keep them.

side-eyeing goscelin so hard, my mind was a constant loop of ''get a job! STAY AWAY FROM HER''. of the two ros he's the redder flag without a doubt—thinking of him transferring his fixation to mc after helewyse, his wife and sons died... shudders.

me reading emeric making a dramatic entrance: well, at least he doesn't hide how unhinged he is. outright murder does seem rather mild compared with the intentions of the other three...
