“Good.” He nodded his head militantly. “Well, then drinking should definitely be your first priority. People start looking a lot cuter once you’ve had a few drinks.” He laughed, before suddenly pursing his lips to think. “So, we could go to a bar, but I’ve already been to all of them today. What do you say we do some old fashioned sneakery, and steal a bottle from one of the stands? It’s much more fun to drink outside, anyways. The trees and shit, you know?”

“That’s an excellent plan,” Logan said, grinning. They had never been opposed to drinking in order to expand their horizons - when it came to cute people, anyway. They waited as Ludo thought through the options and found that they were not at all opposed to sneaking off rather than going to a bar. “I always did like a picnic,” they said as they nodded. “I think that sounds like an excellent plan. I’ve been far too well behaved today and I need to get that out of my system. Where are you thinking?”

being as well versed as he was in the dark arts, bastan didn’t know why he continued on the path for defense against the dark arts. sure, it did help cover for his death eater ties, something he didn’t claim too loudly, but the class always felt beneath him. as he walked out of the classroom, he couldn’t stop the bored sigh from escaping his lips, his eyes rolling as he recalled the essay he had been assigned by the fool of a teacher. mumbling to himself as he trotted down the stairs, “why in the bloody hell, would anyone subject themselves to trying to defend against a bloody dragon? might as well accept your failure and die right there,”

“That seems reasonable to me,” Logan said, glancing up from where they had been leaning against the wall. The statement just made them glad they hadn’t continued on in DADA - though they briefly entertained the idea of being a hit wix, it seemed like too much work for them to pursue it. “I think anyone who is stupid enough to go up against a dragon deserves whatever they get.”

“Yes it is really making it, but you’re on the right track. Find an unsuspecting target and they’d never be able to resist us as a pair. You’re learning well.” Cass laughed as the pair moved through the crowds, keenly noticing the few glances following their direction. It was good to be back. At Logan’s suggestion though, she shook her head, a faux-solemn look coming over her features. “You know I can’t promise anything in the future.” She couldn’t even pretend to be serious for long though, before her trademark smile was back. “I will try to be good tomorrow, but I refuse to make a promise I ultimately cannot keep.”

Logan made a face but nodded as Cass spoke. Finding someone to do it for them would be better, and between the two of them, surely someone would be willing to do it. They shot another look at their sister, smiling despite the attempt to be more serious. “Or we can just both resolve to be disappointments. I mean, it’s going to happen one way or another. Why make ourselves miserable?” Logan had tried - for a while, not to change who they truly were, but to be themself in a way that their parents could still be proud of. But that didn’t work so they didn’t see the point in trying any more. “Anyway, it’ll be more fun that way and since we’ve got the whole year ahead of us, I think we should aim for as much fun as possible.”

“not many people are smart enough to think of ways to win a rigged game.” he noted, eying the game. “just a simple spell does the trick. it’s more fun than you might think.” he said, looking at them and then gesturing to the game. the person was about to throw another ball. they had to act now or they’d never get their chance. 

Logan wasn’t sure that was really complimentary toward them, but they had also never cared to try to win a rigged game either. Or any game. Logan wasn’t competitive. But there was enough of a dare in amycus’s words that they felt compelled to rise to the challenge. They pointed their wand and whispered a spell that made the ball fly straight and true, hitting the target and dunking the professor. In the hubbub, they slipped their wand back into its pocket without being seen and snickered. “Okay, this might be my new favorite thing to do at the festival.”

A weaker man might have taken offense at such insults, but Ludovic met them with a smile. “Sounds like it’s my lucky day then, eh?” Logan was trickier than Cass, by a long shot, but they both had a streak of fire them Ludovic felt drawn to. “In the spirit of not being lonely, want to go on a walk? Maybe one of these stalls is selling something worth drinking.”

Logan weighed the offer, studying Ludo before nodding firmly. He wasn’t being weird after all the sibling stuff. If he had, Logan would have been out before anyone could say firewhiskey. But this would be fun. “I’m in desperate need of a good drink,” they said, “I’ve had no luck finding cute people to snog and I’m about to get grumpy.”

“you could always charm one of their stupid balls to hit it from here. no one would have to know it’s you.” he said, looking more amused than he should have. he had multiple plans on how to play the game from here, but it was more amusing to watch all the people fail. the summer had been bad, but he wasn’t ready to go full out. “maybe from here. torture them a bit. it’ll be more fun that way.” he said, flicking his wrist and making the ball the person threw fall to the ground. 

“You know, I didn’t actually think of that,” Logan said, eyeing the balls thoughtfully. That would be better in multiple ways, because they could time it right so the student who got blamed was someone they didn’t like. That might be fun. They snickered at the student’s reaction to the ball dropping. “The less obvious route might be the better one.” They pulled their wand out and tapped it absently against their leg as they considered the options.

Cass returned Logan’s scowl with an eye roll of her own, shaking her head at the younger sibling as she did so. She adored having them with her, and the bond they shared. “Silly young student,” Cassandra shook her head, her eyes still twinkling as she did. “You do not make things that should be provided for you. Other people do that.” Still, she nodded, and began leading the pair in the direction. “I hope I won’t be fielding any howlers from mother regarding your behavior today?” Her tone was still teasing, knowing full well that disappointed letters could be about either of them, and frequently, were about both.

“Is it really making it if I just dump the firewhiskey in the ice cream bowl though?” Although truly, Logan avoided making anything whenever they could. That was why they had the house elf. “I bet one of us could sweet talk someone into giving us the good stuff anyway.” They fell into step with this sister, snickering at the question. “Oh, I’ve been a veritable angel,” they said, mocking their mother’s tone of voice. It had proven useless to try and earn their mother’s full approval long ago so Logan had really given it up. “I figured though, I can be good today and you can be good tomorrow. Spread out the disappointment.”

“Who said anything about you?” Ludovic countered with a leisurely smirk, crossing his arms over his chest. “It’s me who wants to see you, duh.” He’d always liked Logan, surprisingly enough. They were easygoing in strange version of the word, with a carelessness that he liked to be around. “What are you doing wandering around all alone?”

“I thought that was a given,” Logan said. “Everyone wants to see me.” Which was not entirely true but close enough. Everyone important should want to see them. “Well, I was hoping to find someone cute to snog, or something worth drinking. So far neither has worked out for me but you’re here so at least I don’t have to be lonely.”

“Wait a damn minute, is that who I think it is? Get over here, stranger, I haven’t seen you since spring.”

“And what makes you think that I want to see you now?” Logan drawled, but they still sauntered over to join Ludo. There were worse people to pass the time with. Maybe they should feel more awkward about things with Otto and Cass but they didn’t bother with that much; their sister’s breakup did not affect them.

“Hey!” Evan called out, waving his arm around. Taking a sip from his novelty hogsmeade starfall festival cup (courtesy of the lovely barkeeper at the three broomsticks tent), Evan lifted up his sunglasses to get a better look at the person who had just approached him.  “Don’t look at me like that. Come and have a drink with me. Might as well ring in the school year sloshed, yeah?”

“Is there any other way to ring the school year in?” Logan had been trying to ignore the looming start to the year but it was getting harder as the days went on. Eleven years seemed like far too long to be stuck in this castle. “Swanky cup.” It was a little ridiculous and Logan wasn’t at all interested in sentimental shit like that but somehow it seemed appropriate that Evan had one.

“Where have I been?! Younger siblings don’t get to ask that question,” Cass teased Logan. Naturally, they had come to school together, and seen quite a bit of each other before the festival began, but, the Wilkes siblings were nothing if not independent. Still, it was glad to be rejoined with Logan. “Definitely not. Do you think Florean’s put out the firewhiskey infused flavors yet?”

“Younger siblings can ask whatever they want!” Logan protested, with a mock scowl at their sister. They couldn’t imagine being at school without her though -she was their rock. “Ooh - I didn’t see them when I was there but we can always make our own firewhiskey infused ice cream. We could walk in that direction and see what’s going on though.”

Cassandra lived for the festival. The start of classes was disappointing, but being reunited with her friends, getting her social life back - those were definite high points. Looking over, she saw one such person, and made her way over. “Hey!” Her voice rang as she moved, before joining at their side, “How the hell are you?!”

“Where have you been?” Logan said, grinning at Cass. They had been wandering and looking for a cute person who might like a snog but seeing their sister was a good alternative to that. “I’m good, although I don’t think I’ve had enough ice cream yet. You?”

amycus had been watching the events at the dunk tank for far too long. it brought him great amusement to watch professors being dunked. he wasn’t sure why they had been willing to volunteer. it was so easy to rig something like this with magic. it made amycus wonder how many people were actually playing a fair game. “my bets are the next person misses the target, gets mad and tries again then hits it. then the professor fails them all year.” he said, lazily eyeing someone who had the misfortune of walking by and having to speak to him. 

Logan snickered, cutting their eyes over at Amycus. “That seems like a reasonable outcome. I kept thinking about trying, you know, because there’s a few professors I’d like to dunk but I’m not sure it’s worth the hassle all year.” Not that they actually took enough classes to really worry - or care about their marks. But still, bothering professors was just more trouble than it was worth, in their opinion. “You gonna try?”

Logan Wilkes, Slytherin, ninth year, duelling is their only extracurricular because they care about . . . nothing

Literally they care about Cass and themself and that is it

Logan has been raised by their godparents but they aren’t full of weird regrets or longing over their birth parents; their family is their parents and Cass, and they don’t need anyone else

They are not super motivated for anything so they’re taking the minimum amount of classes and haven’t thought much about their future

They are interested in the Death Eaters because they don’t respect Muggle culture at all but they’re also just a little too lazy to try to get involved with the Death Eaters

They probably don’t like you but they also are too lazy to be overtly rude to you - they also probably don’t think it’s worth the effort to be rude to you

Surprisingly, they are excited about the Hogsmeade festival (this might be a first for them - excitement about something)

They probably don’t like you but they probably will sleep with you
