Hi, I've just finished watching season2 of log horizon, and I was wondering if you could explain why Shiroe chose to sell the purchasable lands back to the server? Because I thought the point of Shiroe controlling the land was so that he could choose who to put on the blacklist as punishment for those who disobey the law? And even if it's to prevent Minami from buying land, can you buy land from other people without their permission? I figured you could help me understand his motivation. Thanks!
So at the time the Round Table was formed, Akiba was largely lawless. In peopleâs eyes, the only laws were to a) not fight in the city otherwise the Guards would get you, and b) donât get in the way of the big guilds. This fact, along with the fact that Hamelin was holding its kids essentially as slave-hostages, gave Shiroe motivation to purchase the Guild Meeting Hall for the Round Table Conference. With powers over the Hall, he could use it as leverage to force the other guilds to at least listen to what he had to say, and reduce the possibility of someone using force of arms against him. On top of that, he could blacklist anyone from Hamelin, preventing them from entering the main Hall and stopping them from pursuing the escaped kids.
After the formation of the Round Table, the rest of the important structures were purchased in order to prevent anyone from creating a split faction or try and topple the newly-founded government. A safekeeping measure, you could say. Well, by November/December, the maintenance upkeep of these buildings is way too much for anyone to reasonably amass, even with taxes in place.
So Shiroe chooses to give it all back to the Kunie and their infinite gold resource. His reasoning is that by this time, enough law and order have been restored to the city. There is little threat inside the city that canât be handled by the guilds, so thereâs no reason to hold on to these money-wasters. He bundles all of Yamatoâs unpurchased purchasable land and gives them back to the Kunie as well, so that nobody can take over land and use their powers to abuse other Adventurers or Landers. According to the contract, all that land has now been âboughtâ by the Kunie. Nobody else can buy it now. (Possibly, something can be negotiated with the Kunie if necessary, but only if youâre Akiban; theyâre not on good terms with Minami and Westelande.)
Note that the mass purchase does not affect zones within the Guild Meeting Hall; those are rented, not purchased. All previously-purchased zones are also exempt from the contract.

Mini-rant about the review for volume 6 on The Fandom Post. Itâs not going to be mini at all.
While I am biased towards the light novels because Iâm always a source-first person, the reviewer on FP is not cut out for the light novel. I donât mind if she prefers the anime to the light novels, but if she canât pick up on the text at this point in the story, she really shouldnât be reading this light novel. She misses parts that are basically spelled out for the reader, and if sheâs missing that, then sheâs obviously not going to pick up on the subtler points of the series that make up its charm.

itâs sometimes really hard for me, too, to fully process just how much of what Shiroe is to others has been established before the start of the series
like, yes, we learn almost immediately that heâs a former strategist of Debauchery Tea Party and therefore a walking legend, but it has also been two years since it broke up, and unlike Naotsugu, Shiroe had been playing this entire time.
Heâs been grouping up with random people, approached for help and support and advice by complete strangers, making friends - he has a long, long, long friend list, with both Akatsuki a random mostly-solo never-raiding player and Crusty the major raid guild leader on it. Heâs close friends with Marie the support guild master who doesnât seem to ever even go fight any monsters anymore. His nickname âVillain in Glassesâ is 100% pre-existing and is one of the REASONS his plan to take over Akihabara succeeded, not consequences.
Heâs just got SO FUCKING MUCH under his belt. Normally, protagonists are something of a blank slate, someone who learns and develops their relationship with the world and other major characters along the course of the plot, with maybe just a handful of pre-existing connections that are all going to be re-evaluated anyway. To figure out who they are we just look at the stuff theyâve done on-screen, because everything before was fairly generic and maybe has a couple of characterization beats but generally pales in comparison to what they are starting to be NOW.
But when you are trying to figure out who Shiroe is, you absolutely have to take into account the mostly-unseen details of what happened before, that we have to extrapolate from othersâ reactions and descriptions and discussions. Itâs not just the basic backstory beats of âshy introvert engineering student who discovered his scene as an MMORPG tacticianâ, itâs also everything heâs done in that role. And that is A LOT. Heâs literally got people going âI donât care to hear what your plan is, Iâm in because itâs your planâ. This is a long huge Noodle Incident that we are never going to hear the details of but the implications of which are never going to stop being brought up.
This is just⌠such an unconventional scheme, and not how weâre used to handing the protagonists at all. But itâs what it is, and we have to work with it the way it is, now.

Some Log Horizon NA Server worldbuilding *gasp*
Some context first off. Blah, blah, blah I probably sucked at grammar usage, hope reading this doesnât melt your brain. Also this bit refers to a (rarely) worked on fanfic for Log Horizon of mine in which I have created a new Adventurer city on the North American server called The Commonwealth (super original eh?) of which represents what would be Washington D.C. and frankly Iâm surprised it wasnât already something as it is our nations capital and to me seems to lend itself as some prime NA server writing material just by existing. Anyways this is my take on how I think the eastern coast players (because I believe players would probably be separated by east coast and west coast as the country is large and it just seems logical for players to start somewhere more familiar to them) of Elder Tale would assemble themselves after being trapped and realizing they needed some form of government or bad things were going to happen, like the Food Riots. It is super unoriginal sounding and I feel that kind of makes it more believable because really we Americans arenât that original in the first place and I am a tad lazy when it comes to naming stuff too, but mostly cause the first reason.
Enjoy my crappy writing.
============================================================== The Senate After witnessing the chaos that engulfed The Big Apple, a number of influential guilds both large and small gathered and created The Senate; a body of government that would discuss and make decisions in the hope of not repeating the events of the Food Riots. To solidify their power over The Commonwealth they united their money to acquire key buildings such as the Cathedral and the Guild Building all under separate and trustworthy guild leaders so that no one person or group could control the city.Â
In need of a place to gather and a symbol of power, The Senate chose to occupy the Elder Taleâs equivalent of the Capitol Building in the real world and make use of the Senate Chamber within to hold their meetings. The chamber itself is large enough that every guild leader representing the city has a place to sit and room for their aides to assist; the chamber also has enough seats for special guests and their assistants.
The system is a simple matter of each guild leader having one vote to use upon the time of a voting call and votes are taken by a raising of hands and tallied up by a designated member. Once a decision is made and depending on the ratio of yes and no votes, they may discuss further how the winning vote could be modified in a reasonable manner to be seen as more fair to the other side, however if the winning side decides that no modifications need or should be made it will pass without change.
To fund the payments on the buildings they purchased; The Senate collects taxes from services across the city like banking and businesses ran by both Adventurers and People of the Land. The taxation is regarded to be fair and reasonable by most residents of the city, but as always there will be those who disagree with it such as Lander nobles who feel the taxation takes money away from their domains, however knowing the Adventurers are far more powerful than they could ever hope to be the nobles remain quietly complaining in their castles.

Okay, something that I didnât catch in the fan translation of Log Horizon: West Wind Brigade chapter 17 (volume 3) is that Dolce is a woman in real life.
In other words, she became the Japanese gay stereotype after the Catastrophe since she was placed into her male avatar.
This manga is too much.
