Myles Smith has got a good thing going and make no mistake about that. The new “Nice To Meet You” (RCA) is being met with major enthusiasm. This is a multi-talented recording artist with a very bright future. So far so very good for rising star Myles Smith. Alex Warren is as hot as they come these days. His new entry in “Ordinary” (Atlantic) really puts him in a class all his own. It’s a solid offering from start to finish and the single is one the way to some great things to be sure. Dasha is an act that appears to be taking crossover to an entire new level. Having started at Country to a strong showing, the new single “Not At This Party” (Warner/WMN) is off to the races from Adult Contemporary, Top40 to Country. This is how its done from a record label stance to make it all work on numerous levels. Ravyn is on the move fast and furious with the red-hot “Love Me Not” (ThreeTwentyThree/Atlantic). There’s a lot going on here that makes you listen. Miley Cyrus keeps the fires burning bright with her ever brilliant career. She takes the new song “End Of The World” (Columbia) out for a spin and the results are amazing. Miley is a proven winner over and over again and with this new single you just can’t count her out. Daniel Arison is out and about making a solid name in the radio world. “Selfish” (Distro Kid) is the new single that is getting raves and praise from our panel of music and program directors.

Ariana Grande continues to be as hot as ever and just when you thought she might be slowing down a bit we have to think again. Her new “twilight zone” (Republic) is as strong as any entry she has had in quite some time. Better give this some major attention in the coming weeks. The artist we have come to know as Jennie is building a very strong list of early believers for her single “Like Jennie” (Columbia). This has become a real favorite among our music and program directors and the listeners out there are loving this single big time. Sabrina Carpenter continues to rule the pop world and she shows it time and time again. Her “Busy Woman”(Island/Republic) which is really quite autobiographical is off to the races as she passes many on the charts. This one is the one to watch for sure. Drake is back with a single that deserves your immediate attention. “Nokia” (OVO/Santa Anna/Republic) is the jam that I am referring to and if he can keep Kendrick off of his back this one could be a real winner. Bad Bunny is back at it and radio is really responding in a very big way. “EoO” (Rimas) is his latest and greatest and it’s a reminder of just how talented this recording artist is. The single has powerhouse numbers from coast to coast and requests are off the charts. The pairing of the fabulous SZA with Kendrick Lamar has really turned into something quite special. “30 For 30” (Top Dawg/RCA) is the track that is setting the world on fire. Read the full article

Chris Janson is as hot as any country artist can be these days and he shows it with each and every release. His new and excellent “Me & A Beer” (Harpeth 60) is the pure talk of the format and after just one listen you will understand why. Cody Johnson is also getting quite a lot of love out there at the format. He wears is so well with the new single “The Fall” (Warner/WMN/COJO Music) that has #1 written all over it. Ty Myers is making the most out of his sudden fame and fortune. It all gets credited to the song “Ends Of The Earth” (RECORDS Nashville) that is really some crafty songwriting at that. After just one listen I was totally hooked and I don’t even like music. Keep your ears and eyes peeled for the magic that is Ty Myers. Tim McGraw has joined forces with P. McCollum for a solid Country winner. “Paper Umbrellas” (Big Machine/MCA) is the little ditty that I’m referring to and I have to tell you that this one has #1 written all over it so jump on this as fast as you can. Ty Myers Kip Moore is back at it with another Country monster, “Bad Spot” (Virgin) is his latest and greatest and watch for the numbers on this single to blow up in the coming weeks. I’m also happy to report that one of my favorites in Dylan Scott is on the move. “What He’ll Never Have” (Curb) is the new one that many music and program directors from across the USA are signing his praises. I would go out and buy a lotto ticket today if I were Dylan Scott.

Welcome to a very special issue for us here at New Music Weekly. We are thrilled to pay tribute to all of the winners for our 2025 New Music Awards. For this issue we also put the spotlight on our Independent artists and bands that play such an important part of our music industry. A good number of our Indie artists also qualified for a well deserved New Music Award. Major label artists and groups abound when it came to our annual award selections. There are a few female artists that had a most spectacular showing that deserved and received NMA Award attention. Sabrina Carpenter found herself in our winner’s circle and the votes for her were “off the charts”. Also there was no doubt about the impact that Chappell Roan has had on radio over this past year. So with that in mind there was no surprise that she became a solid NMA winner. In the male artist category, no one had a better run then Benson Boone. This former American Idol contestant has really turned his career around and in a very big way indeed. His live television appearances have really served him well. He also had a massive showing at radio and has helped to cement himself as a major player in today’s music industry. There will be more to come from the amazing Benson Boone. Independent music artists also found themselves in the winner’s circle thanks to your votes and support. Recording artist DPB found himself on our pop charts from Top40 to Hot AC and still commands huge respect at radio.

Kelly Clarkson’s latest single, “Where Have You Been,” debuted globally on May 2, 2025, on her newly formed label, High Road Records. The track draws inspiration from a heartfelt moment in Hulu’s hit series “Only Murders in the Building,” where Martin Short’s character, Oliver Putman, asks Meryl Streep’s character, Loretta Dunkin, “Where have you been?” This line sparked Clarkson’s imagination, leading her to craft a song about discovering a rare and almost mythical kind of love. This isn’t Clarkson’s first connection to the series. In 2023, she collaborated with Steve Martin on her album chemistry, where Martin played banjo on the track “I Hate Love.” “Where Have You Been” is a sexy, sultry ballad that crosses various genres including rock, pop and R&B. Given her history of powerful vocals and emotive performances, fans can anticipate a song that blends heartfelt lyrics with Clarkson’s signature style. “Writing and performing music you love just because you love it, with people that you respect and admire as artists and humans, is what High Road Records is all about. ‘Where Have You Been’ is about finally finding what you have been searching for and being grown enough to recognize it when you do.” Clarkson kicks off the release of “Where Have You Been” with a LIVE concert at Rockefeller Plaza for The Today Show’s 2025 Citi Concert Series on Tuesday, May 6, followed by back-to-back shows at The Hard Rock Live at Etess Arena in Atlantic City on May 9 & May 10.

Jeremy Buck's latest single "Holding On to My Faith" is a soul-stirring rock gospel anthem born from a lifetime of perseverance and passion. Co-written with music legends Steve Ferrone (Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers), Rhonda Smith (Prince, Jeff Beck), Toshi Yanagi (Jimmy Kimmel Live), and Matt Rohde (The Voice, American Idol), the track was written from scratch and recorded just five days later at the iconic EastWest Studios in Los Angeles. With soaring vocals, driving guitars, and a message of resilience, this song is a rallying cry for anyone chasing a dream a bold fusion of rock energy and gospel soul that inspires listeners to never give up. For over 20 years, Jeremy has performed thousands of live shows, graced major festivals, and appeared on national TV, including Jimmy Kimmel Live. His music has been featured in network TV shows and major brand commercials. From his home studio, the "Chateau Motel," Jeremy writes, produces, and mixes all of his music. He's also the founder of Rock for Tots, an annual charity concert series now in its 18th year, which supports children in need through the power of music and community. As a studied musician, vocalist, songwriter, arranger, producer and recording engineer Lawrence Cameron McGhee has loved and played music all his life. He fell in love with the sound of the guitar as a young boy learning to play by ear he was intrigued by its influence in music in particular R&B. His resume includes forming his own lucrative seven-piece group, session work, producing new artists and recorded artist. He honed his song writing by studying with Arthur Hamilton ("Cry Me a River") and Annette Tucker. His focus as a music professional has been to constantly improve his craft. Being a native of Los Angeles he always enjoyed the music diversity that he experienced there. Lawrence believes that a song is a synergistic marriage of lyrics and music. While he concurs that the bass may be considered the heart of R&B, he recognizes the guitar as its je ne sais quoi (that intangible something). Lawrence's love for the guitar is evident in his song "It's Just Love". As guitar is very relevant to traditional R&B he created that same feel in this production. His crafted original songs include some funk, sophisticated blues and sweet ballads with thoughtful and clever lyrics that create ambiance and will make the listener smile. All parts performed by Lawrence Cameron McGhee as well as drum programming.

Steve Sloan grew up in Nebraska, and with his guitar, worked his way through college, the Sorbonne University in Paris, France, and law school (Juris Doctor '67). Upon graduation he formed a singing duo with Gail Randall (Miss Omaha 1966) and "Steve & Gail" performed at folk houses and night clubs across America. In 1969 they joined The New Christy Minstrels, one of the country's most popular folk-singing groups with 14 Gold Records. Over the past 35 years, Steve enjoyed a successful career in real estate investment and brokerage. For 15 years he was a leader of a humanitarian organization which helped save over one million Jews, Baptists, and Jehovah's Witnesses from persecution in the Soviet Union. Steve and Michi, his wife of 51 years and their two children live in Marin County, California. Steve plays all the instruments, except a mandolin and steel/bass guitar in this CD album of 14 songs, including tambourine, vocal lead and harmonies, rhythm stix, cymbals, whistling and gazatchka. Through the magic of multi-track recording, these elegantly simple yet powerful all acoustic instruments boldly back Steve's spirited interpretations, resulting in beautiful, stirring music.

The magical pairing of Lisa with Doja Cat and Raye has turned into a real solid winner at the Top40 format. “Born Again” (Lloud Co/RCA) is the jam that I’m referring to and many music and programmers from across the USA are singing the praises of this track “big time”. Lady Gaga is back with one of her best to date. “Abracadabra” (Interscope/ICLG) is the song that she premiered on the Grammy Awards and it had the entire audience dancing. This is where Lady Gaga is at her very best and radio and music fans have been waiting for her to return to this. DOECHII DOECHII is truly shining ever so bright at Top40 and more. She a young and super talented rapper/singer and I’m truly amazed by her. “DENIAL IS A RIVER” (TDE/Capitol/ICLG) is her debut offering and from the way radio and music fans have been responding, this young lady is on her way to becoming a music Superstar. Sexyy Red has teamed up with Bruno Mars for “Fat Juicy” (gamma./Atlantic). Being that everything the Bruno has released has skyrocketed to #1 you can bet that this track will follow the same magical path. Jump on it while you can. Tyla has got a good thing going and make no mistake about that. “PUSH 2 START” (FAX/Epic) is really taking off by leaps and bounds and it is really no surprise to me as this one is beyond strong. Kenrrick Lamar is basking off his Super Bowl Halftime show. Even though some are proclaiming it as “the worst one ever”, many are just loving his new “Squabble Up” (Interscope).

Morgan Wallen continues to rule the Country world at every turn. His current hit single in “I’m The Problem” (Big Loud/Mercury/Republic) moves past a crowded field in record time. He has so many songs on the charts these days at any given week that it is really hard to keep pace. I’ll try regardless. Riley Green is one of my all-time favorites. He tells another excellent story as his new “Worst Way” (Nashville Harbor) takes flight all over Country radio. Congrats to him on that one. Nate Smith is about as hot as they come these days. I think he’s really found his footing with the new single in “Fix What You Didn’t Break” (RCA Nashville). This track is so well done that I can barely stand it. Am I just jealous? Brandon Lake we I know from Christian radio has teamed up with the ever popular Jelly Roll for a real treat. “Hard Fought Hallelujah” (Lyric Ridge/Essential/PLG) is the jam that puts them together and what a great duet this is. My all-time favorite American Idol artist Chayce Beckham has finally found a home at Country radio. It took a while for him to get there and now there is no stopping him. The new and improved “Everything I Need” (Wheelhouse/BMG) is off like a rocket and this keeps him right at the top of the heap where he so belongs. Also getting a lot of love at the format is Chase Matthew. His new and ever so powerful “Darlin'” (Warner Nashville/WAR) is as cute as it gets and it’s perfect. What can I say about Ella Langley that hasn’t already been said.

Welcome to the New Music Awards nominees. This provides an opportunity for us to signal out the very best artists and bands over the past voting season from both the major an independent label arena. This also provides us all an opportunity to pay tribute to radio stations, music and program directors including industry professionals who have had a hand in making a huge impact in the music industry over this past year. It’s really been quite the team effort as labels and stations worked closely together to bring us the very best that the music industry has had to offer. The results have been quite impressive. New Music Weekly has one again provided an open ballot that allowed our subscribers and music fans a chance to participate in the nomination process. Much to our surprise we had an overwhelming response that provided a wide range of ideas for those who had an impact at radio over the past year. It was quite a tribute for many of us to see how many people became engaged in our nomination process. Something we are extremely happy about & it allows us to now celebrate the very best out there as we move forward. If you listen to top 40 radio over this past year, you can’t help but notice how many female recording artist are now being programmed at a higher rate than male and bands or groups. On that same note over at Country radio most of the artists are male with female artists getting much less play on any given week. Read the full article
