Just for clarification

There’s roughly 30 or so different Maya ethnic groups with their own languages, traditions, clothing, culture, etc. just like the many different Pueblo Native groups in the southwest.

listen up this is how i imagine sokka in legend of korra (ie. he takes varrick’s place)

DEAD? WHO’S DEAD??

Ok so first of all, fuck billionaires and fuck weapon developers. so WHAT IF, listen up guys, WHAT IF sokka was the varrick of LOK? Okay, so

Sokka starts the show just as an eccentric inventor guy running around Souther Water Tribe and Republic City doing weird shenanigans. Forget that whole weird romance with his assistant, when you meet him everyone’s just like “oh yeah, he used to be married. But don’t mention the divorce, that really upsets him”,  and the LOK Team Avatar, being teenagers and therefore entirely self-absorbed by their own romantic failures, are like “ok sure got it lol”

everyone’s SO JAZZED to meet a member of the original Gaang, but then they realise Sokka’s just this chill old dude who spends his free time inventing random shit like moving pictures 

sokka is SO JAZZED to meet korra and he’s SO HAPPY she moved away to Republic City on her own to decide her own destiny.

the bisexual bro energy b/w him and Korra is too powerful to be contained, he’s the one who first sits her down and is like “I’ve seen you and Asami together, and you know you can be attracted….to both genders…right?”

Sokka’s the only person who loves to tell stories about Aang, but the catch is that no one knows if Sokka’s lying or not because all his stories sound fucking insane (”yeah and then we found a buried library run by a magic owl and his fox assistants, and then i got HIGH off my FACE on cactus juice”). 

Sokka directs Bolin in “The Adventures of Nuktuk” (our boy LOVES plays and acting, have you seen how he reacted in the ember island players episode??) and there’s like a bare minimum heterosexual love story but also Nuktuk has a brooding firebending sidekick and they spend a lot of time staring at each other and tenderly bandaging each other’s wounds

 Bolin: Uh…Sokka? Do I really have to lovingly brush my sidekick’s hair and talk about how I’ll always support him through the traumas of his past??? / Sokka (trying not to weep in the director’s chair): KEEP BRUSHING

yeah so Sokka keeps making cryptic comments about his ‘estranged husband’, but every one around him is a self absorbed teenager so they don’t notice

Zuko rocks up in Season 3 and again all the old people are like “oh yeah, he used to be married. But don’t mention the divorce, that really upsets him”

Later in Season 3 Zuko has a talk with Korra about the red lotus and adds casually “yeah so my divorce happened because I agreed you should be kept safe in a locked compound, but my husband disagreed and think you should be brought up in the world as a normal person. Our marriage kinda collapsed because of this. But i heard you guys are good friends now so ok that’s good”

Korra putting 2+2 together at last “OOOOHHH DAMN”

And blah blah blah, 3 years later Sokka gets kidnapped by Kuvira because he becomes obsessed with experimenting with Spirit Vine energy. He and Bolin makes it all explode and escape, and as they’re trudging along in the wilderness all of a sudden there’s a black shape in the sky and Bolin’s like HOLY SHIT IS THAT ZUKO’S DRAGON??

And Sokka’s like “YEAH THAT’S MY HUSBAND IN THE SKY NOW WE RECONNECTED DURING IN THE LAST THREE YEARS DIDN’T I MENTION THIS??”

They rock off and defeat a giant robot with a dragon. The End.

honestly, will poetic cinema ever reach higher heights than the part in the genghis khan music video where the james bond-y hero escapes and then promptly flings himself against the wall in lovelorn anguish and starts singing “ooh, i wanna make up my mind, but i don’t know myself”, echoing the supervillain’s piney lament from moments earlier, and you’re hit full force with the perfect epiphany of “OH SNAP, HE’S IN LOVE TOO!!!!!!!”??
