END OF FMP POWERPOINT PRESENTATION
Found above is my PowerPoint presentation outlining my process, planning and thoughts on how my piece for the FMP went involving a short film.
I think my presentation went well. I had very little practice into what I was going to say but improvising speeches on the spot is my forte, so despite that I feel like my presentation was articulate and well detailed. I spoke slightly over the time limit, I’d say half a minute or so just to provide my own personal thoughts on reflections and feedback. I explained my inspirations and planning well, as well as detailed what went wrong and how I overcame these problems.
I feel I could have stuttered less and I feel like I should have some leniency with my stutter instead of adding my stutter time on to speaking term. But overall, I’d say it went well and i met the college standards

Reflective Journal #6
In the final week of the project, I finished creating and editing my short film. I also sorted out my blog, added details to the other posts, posted my complete schedules and gathered peer feedback from my video, as well as finishing off my research and making sure it was top notch.
This week was mainly dedicated to altering work and tightening it up.
I feel very accomplished with the work I created. The short film turned out almost exactly to my vision and that’s a great achievement to me. I was running with the idea for a while and I made sure the planning was tight and that it was followed closely.
All that is left to do for the project is to create a PowerPoint presentation and present it to the rest of the class after half term. i will be finishing the PowerPoint presentation through half term in time for the end of the year.

Here are my completed schedules for all 6 weeks of this project. They are detailed with predicted timings, resources, outcomes, what purpose these tasks have as well as dates being the most important property of the schedule. These were used to keep me on track and stop me falling behind
Week 1 was dedicated to introductions to the project and idea generations.
Week 2 was dedicated to initial planning. Brainstorming, proposals, designing prop lists etc
Week 3 was dedicated to designing the story, doing research and doing location recces
Week 4 was dedicated to filming, finalising details, sourcing actors, props and equipment.
Week 5 was dedicated to editing and creating my short film.
Week 6 was dedicated to completing my research, completing the short film, completing an evaluation and finishing off the project. All that’s left to do now is make a PowerPoint presentation over half term to present to the class on week 7
Week 7 was dedicated to creating and presenting the PowerPoint presentation to end the project and to outline how I made my project and where I got the inspirations.

Peer Feedback
Found above is my feedback for my final piece. The feedback was glowing with mostly positivity. People enjoyed my video and loved my editing and the techniques I used. People commented saying I have a good range of shots and pointed out which specific shots they loved, while others provided great feedback while also telling me how to improve it. i.e. adding in character development or expanding the story by adding in a backstory to make the video make more sense.

FMP Evaluation
INTRO
We were asked to produce an independent final piece. I began by producing brainstorms to jot down my ideas. Initial research included music videos, game concepts or character design. My proposal was for a short film about sentient cookies: I talked about my idea, mediums I was going to use, presentation and how I want the short film to look. I produced schedules to help organise my action plan.
RESEARCH
I conducted primary (online surveys) and secondary research (web pages, books, videos and directors). The survey was helpful, influenced what kind of genre I wanted my short film to fit into as well as what age range I need to appeal to.
What else was helpful was research into an old YouTube video called Marshmallow Murder. This helped me figure out how to go about executing the themes, as well as how to handle any voices I edit in.
What wasn’t helpful was knowing the gender my target audience were, or the secondary research into David Dominguez didn’t influence me too much as his discography was centred towards rock and metal.
My research helped me appeal to a specific demographic and psychographic target audience for people who like comedy sketches & that which can be seen as cute and yet creepy.
AUDIENCE
My demographic target audience is anybody aged between 16-20+. My psychographic target audience is people who enjoy watching comedy sketches online, or people who enjoy watching weird content online. I wanted to make something surreal and bizarre as an avenue to express my creative aptitude.
I found this out by analysing the results from my online survey to discern how specific my target audience may be and how to cater to them. My project appeals to them because it starts with an innocent theme and transitions into something horrible and creepy and then begins to carry that surreal, bizarre vibe.
PRODUCTION
I used Adobe Premiere 2018 CC, Adobe Audition 2018 CC, colour correction, Reverb, pitch control and delay. Made use of the source monitors, audio transitions, video transitions.
1) I recorded my footage using a Panasonic HDC SD900
2) I made my skeleton edit on Adobe Premiere 2018 CC
3) I imported royalty free music into Adobe Premiere 2018 CC and arranged the footage and music on the timeline
4) I recorded voice samples with a Zoom portable voice recorder
5) I edited the voice samples using reverb, delay and pitch correction on Adobe Audition 2018 CC
6) I imported the edited sound files onto Adobe Premiere 2018 CC to be used as non-diegetic sound.
7) Experimented with colour correction to make the footage look brighter on the source monitors.
8) Experimented with video transitions and audio transitions.
9) Arranged the non-diegetic sound on the timeline
10) Added the title and rolling end credits.
For pre-production, I did location recces, prop and actor sourcing, filled in health and safety assessments, created storyboards, wrote up proposals and wrote up a treatment.
I experimented with Adobe After Effects 2018 CC to create a title as well as add animated faces to my props. I experimented with different backing music and combinations of non-diegetic screams. It helped me decide how to edit and produce it. It impacted my work by helping me add atmosphere and bring the characters to life without non-diegetic voices, helping to bring my idea to life and give it its own personality.
I used the razor tool to cut the footage to add transitions to help the story flow, pitch correctors, reverb and delay in Adobe Audition 2018 CC to edit the voice samples, & audio transitions to fade out music. I used video transitions to help change perspective and make the footage flow, colour correction to make the footage pop out more. The work pushed me to improve further because I wanted to discover new ways to help bring ideas to life and think of more details to add in to help improve my editing and production skills further.
REFLECTION
I think the project was a good opportunity for me to prove my creative worth, giving me the freedom to produce my own work style. It hinged heavily on my own creative aptitude, resourcefulness and organisational skills to show I can create something unique. Everything went fine, besides the filming being delayed due to bad weather. I overcame this by planning the shoot around the weather forecasts, finding my best day.
What I would do differently is learn how to animate faces using After Effects to help show the cookies are sentient and aware of what is happening, as well as expand the story to work in a backstory so the short film makes sense.
Working independently felt liberating. I worked better by myself since the plan was guaranteed to be followed and I had the chance to display my own storytelling techniques. It really gave me the chance to shine and gave me the opportunity to create something I was hoping to bring to life for a while.
I followed my schedule and proposal accurately. My planning was followed to the letter and as a result, the final piece was well edited and recorded. The only minor difference that happened was that the cookies gained sentience a little earlier than the storyboard described but it wasn’t too major of a change to warrant problems. I think it helped the overall story flow better.
I feel I have used my time well when it came to planning my schedule. One area I could improve on is getting my research done much sooner. The research was really important and I should have dedicated more time to it. I could have moved on to the planning, giving myself more time instead of trying to balance, spending more time on the location recces and finding more potential locations. But overall, my time was well spent.
I feel accomplished with my final piece. It is almost exactly as I envisioned. Some areas could be improved upon like the sound arrangement. I feel it is filmed and edited well for a first year student but it shows a lot of potential for me to improve in the future.
FEEDBACK
After receiving peer feedback, people really enjoyed my short film and felt like it was funny. They liked the range of shots I used and the way the story was conveyed. Some people feel the sounds could be worked on more to balance the volume and the camera work could be less shaky, but feedback was constructive and informative of what could be improved and worked on.

FINAL VIDEO
Here is my final piece for my FMP. I used Adobe Premier 2018 CC and Adobe Audition 2018 CC to create this piece, I used Audition to edit voice recordings to make them high pitched and added a bit of Reverb to make it sound more authentic, give it more oomph. I made good use of transition effects, speed duration and audio transitions to try and make the sound switch between them naturally without sounding messy. I made use of the razor tool to snip up the footage on the timeline to aid in applying transitions in specific places. My evaluation will cover everything in more detail

Reflective Journal #2
This week, we needed to start the planning for our idea. Since I’m doing film, I needed to start writing up the proposals, thinking of where I could shoot it, what props I’d need, how many actors I would require, what I’d use to bring my idea to life etc. I wrote up my proposal which was signed off, giving me clearance to go ahead with the idea. The proposal outlined how I envisioned the film, what mediums I was going to use, what I’m hoping to achieve from the project, how I want it to be presented amongst other details.
I also had to conduct primary and secondary research into my project. I wrote up a survey on SurveyMonkey. My questions were pertaining to genre, whether people enjoy watching comedy sketches online, if they watch anything surreal or weird online, whether they love cookies etc. I got plenty of responses to run with and I annotated them in detail and this helped me shape my idea and influence my choices.
For secondary research into my project, I needed to write up about inspirations from different sources, how much inspiration they had on my decisions future choices, outlined previous directors and where they came from, what came before them, what else they did, what they are involved in etc. Overall, I provided great detail in my research
I feel good about the work I produced. Research is coming along nicely and it’s building up the detail over time as the research is ongoing throughout the project. The survey results were satisfactory and well annotated. What I could do to add more to this however, would be to have more questions and try and reach that 10 question limit on SurveyMonkey before I’d need to pay for it.

Reflective Journal #1
In the first week, we were introduced to the FMP and what it means for us concerning our grades and futures. We began by planning our project which is independent on us. It’s our own project and we were given the freedom to do our own thing for the project as long as it is our own work.
We began by making spider diagrams outlining our different ideas in the 3 different subject matters. We were told to make the spider diagrams look eye catching and interesting to look at. My brainstorm had many different ideas on it, mostly in Film and Graphic Design as those 2 subject matters are my strong points.
After that, we needed to pick one idea from the spider diagram we wanted to run with and expand on it, outlining what we could do for the idea and what we want to do for it. Again, it needed to look eye catching and interesting to look at. I expanded on my idea by detailing the base concept, what camera angles I want to use, what I could use, what locations and settings I could use etc.
I feel ok about the work I produced,it is eye catching and interesting though it could be better. I feel it could be more eye catching and appealing to look at but I’m confident it is enough to get by and hopefully the grade I need.

DEVELOPING MY FILM
Found above are the screenshots I have taken while editing my short film.
Colour correction: For colour correction, I had to find a balance between orange and green tints to try and edit out the grey and blue aspects due to the white balance always changing during the filming due to the changing weather and tones. Finding this balance was not that difficult but it really helped bring out the colour and make it look more natural and eye pleasing to my target demographic. I played around with the blacks and whites balance to try and minimalise the shadows and dampen the sky so it’s glaring less. I was also raising the exposure slightly to help define the contrast and colour balancing.
For the editing timeline with the footage and sound files, I was playing around with a combination of straight cut and fading transitions to try and find a way to make the scenes flow together when it comes to perspective changes and scene changes. I have managed to make it flow nicely and as naturally as possible without any cuts looking odd or badly timed.
For the source monitors, I was doing a side by side comparison to see how the footage looks with and without colour correction and graphical editing. In my opinion, it looks good and makes the video look more aesthetically pleasing. Also to show a comparison between the shadows and lighting between the 2 source monitors, to see which lighting level looks best or looks nicer when you consider the rays and shadows.
For the final screenshot, It’s a collection of the footage and audio files I had imported during production, stuff I will be using to make my short film feel more held together, more wholesome content wise. Stuff that is really going to get my idea flowing and coming to life nicely.
Finally, I used Adobe Audition to edit the voice samples I recorded with a Zoom portable voice recorder. I used a pitch adjuster to raise the pitch, make it high pitched and squeaky, as well as using Attack to define the sound. I also added Reverb for a very slight echo to make the voices sound more authentic and life like. I also tried delay on the crying sound files to add to the effect of a whimper dying out.

FMP Research
Initial Research
For the initial research into my FMP, I drew up a brainstorm of different ideas what I could do for my FMP which were encompassing the different subjects like video, photography and graphic design. Each subject having a plethora of different ideas within spanning different topics, such as documentaries, short films about trans awareness, short films about Autism, photoshoots of landscapes or pollution awareness or game design etc.
As part of the initial research, I did a quick google of bizarre images involving food, i.e. Marshmallows or cookies. I wanted images that would provide almost no context, while invoking the imagination and intriguing the viewer, so they’d get curious on what it could be and want to find out more.
Target Audience Research
With my research into target audiences, I conducted a online survey to help determine who my target audience is based on demographic and psychographic profiling. My research shows my short film needs to mainly appeal to people between the ages of 16-18, so the minds of that group are still going to be immature enough to appreciate something bizarre.
The other results also show that my key demographic are people who enjoy fantasy, horror and comedy films, which works in my favour due to the fact that my short film fits under the horror/comedy boundaries, albeit very light horror fit for a small child.
My research did also show that my target audience do like/or are open to changes in their favourite films, though some feel like it depends on what the changes are.
Finally, my research showed that my target audience do love cookies, as long as raisin isn’t involved; which is perfect for me as cookies is paramount to my film.
Main Inspiration
My main source of inspiration for my video is actually a song. The song is called Cookies! by Ninja Sex Party, from the album “Attitude Party”, released in 2016. Cookies! Is in a comedy sketch format telling the story of a hard-core Metal guy who sits down and enjoys a plate of cookies, while the cookies are mistaking him for a demon and are freaking out over the fact they are being consumed. While managing to keep a light-hearted, hilarious tone to it. This song gave me the idea for my FMP, carrying strong inspirational vibes with it, it mainly gave me the conceptual idea and stemmed from it, was the other elements from it.

Brian and David have been influencing my work by helping me decide what kind of vibe or groove I want my backing music to have. When Brian worked on “Cookies” for Ninja Sexs Party, the music goes through transitions of upbeat, cheery vibes and dramatic, heavy metal music with a build up between the cheery music and the dramatic metal music.

Starbomb:(https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCuEOrLv3pYGDZ4ukrfeqf0Q)
Another major source of inspiration for me is an aged YouTube short known as Marshmallow Murder, created by a channel called Daneboe, most famous for Annoying Orange. It’s an old sketch what most people have seen by now but it makes good use of camera focusing, depth of field, composition and after effects to create something intriguing and seemingly innocent to watch despite the nature of the name. The after effects they use for the video are mainly used to apply human like faces onto the marshmallows that are able to show emotion. The animation and editing looks jarring to some but overall, the style is charming in a weird, eccentric way. It’s something you’d watch once and then never forget because of how much of a major black sheep it is on YouTube, back in the days when content creators had free reign of what they could put onto the service.
This has infuenced my work by helping me decide how to execute the sweet and innocent theme and transition it into something weird and possibly scary depending on who the viewer is. It has
Daneboe – Marshmallow Murder (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=playnmJB_TI)
Legality
When it comes to my short film, the legality and ethics of it is very important to avoid any legality altercations taking place about copyright or trespassing upon private property if location recce wasn’t thorough enough.
With copyright, I need to be careful with how I use props and locations. For example, for the cookie props, I cannot claim I made them and pass them off as my property when the they could be from a supermarket under an already existing brand such as Maryland for example. As long as I don’t claim copyright and ownership of the cookies, it’s a healthy amount of product placement when viewed innocently.
For filming and editing, I cannot use the likeness of someone or something else without permission from the copyright holders. I need to think about the practicality and keep things simple and as original as possible to avoid any legal altercations
BBFC Age Rating: Legality
For my short film, I believe the appropriate age rating is PG. It’s generally light hearted, the violence is simply implied, it’s bright and colourful, there are no drugs or sex references but parents may be advised to watch for really young children, as well as Horror being at almost non-existent or very light. I think PG is a very fair rating but it’s suitable for all, with parental guidance.
Book Inspiration
I drew inspiration from a book about making short films covering different topics like script writing, location, casting etc., written by a professional film maker or crew member of a film maker. I looked at Location and what I need to consider when using a location or multiple locations with the many things you need to consider i.e. lighting, scene times, filming times, transitions between scenes etc. There was a lot covered with a lot of detail which is perfect for a budget film maker. It was very helpful with helping me decide how to make use of my desired locations.
Although, the book is written to appeal to budget film makers who need to make do with what they have who need to put extra consideration into what they want to do. It has influenced my work by addressing the issues a budget film maker needs to work with. With a limited budget who need to think small when it comes to location, can they afford to hire out a hotel room for one scene for example? It influenced me by making me think about what I need to do for future films with no budget and the things I could do. Like consider story progression so the transition from scene to scene occurs naturally and doesn’t feel forced. As well as the importance of considering noise pollution, lighting, the positioning of the props or where to set up the camera.
Thurlow, C. (2008). Making short films. 2nd ed. Oxford: Berg.
Here is my complete comprehensive collection of secondary research all put into a single post. Covering the legalities, age ratings, practicality, inspirations, producers etc. I have went into great detail into most, if not all subjects to make sure my research is as high detailed as possible. I outlined my main inspirations, secondary inspiratioons, book inspirations, how these inspirations influenced me on my film making and development and how it’s influenced my producer decisions.

REFLECTIVE JOURNAL WEEK 5
This week, I began the editing process for my short film. I had a clear idea of what I wanted to do the editing process, it just came down to the execution. My teacher was quite impressed with the shots I used and high fived me for using a shot she suggested I played around with colour correction, made some minor tweaks to some parts to try and help the action flow better as well as experimented with the different transition effects and played around with the duration times and placing the transition effects to try and create something that flowed naturally. I was also looking around for different sound effects I could use, as well as what music or ambiance I could add in to try and make it look more interested, while making sure it was all fitting and meshed well together. Everything I have added in is non-diegetic sound, all the diegtetic sound that was recorded was cut and is being replaced with non-diegetic to try and create a more dramatic effect.
I also tried playing around with after effects to try and create some animated faces for the cookies to try and tell the audience that they are indeed sentient. It is quite a learning curve but I will get there and the different tools I was shown for the after effects were cool but will require a lot of trial error. I decided to skip the animated faces due to time restraints and the learning curve behind it not being feasible.
I feel accomplished with the short film I have created thus far. It’s not quite finished just yet but it’s coming together quite nicely and the end product should be a good achievement and show of what I have learned and what I am capable of creating in the future with more time and resources What I could do to improve my work further is find more ways to get the work flowing smoothly, i.e. recording voice samples and editing them in Adobe Audition to try and create some slight terror, but something comical for the cookies in the editing phase.

Blog Peer Feedback

My blog has been peer reviewed by Shannon Witton from Group A
Shannon commented saying that my blog posts are all clearly labelled, especially the weekly Reflective Journals.
She added that my blog is in a Grid layout but there are no schedules uploaded to my blog just yet.
Later, she commented saying that there are only 2 reflective journals on my blog so far when there should be at least 4 now.
She did say that my brainstorm is very detailed and is eye catching and interesting to look at which gave a clear idea of what my ideas is.
The only research Shannon was able to find is my primary research int he form of a survey and the ensuing results.
She said that my development research needs to be improved by having photos of what props are going to be used in the film.
Shannon commented saying the strong points of my blog are that I have detailed what my idea is and how I will achieve this.
As for the improvements, she said I need to make sure I have all the correct pre-production paperwork uploaded and properly annotated.

Reflective Journal Week #4
This week, I was adding a lot of stuff into my project research. I was mostly adding in details pertaining to artist inspirations and what they have worked on previously and where their inspiration comes from. As well as outlined my own main source of inspirations and why they have influenced my work.
I annotated my survey results and explained what this means and what practices I need to do for my project to make it appealing to my target demographic and psychograpgic audience. I am following this because it is influencing how I need to handle my content and what themes, moods or aesthetics I need to use.
I acquired filming equipment required in order to film, including a tripod to help keeping the shots stable. My actor will be ready to be filming tomorrow in Wollaton Park. I was supposed to be filming on Tuesday but it was raining and it is not ideal circumstances to be recording my short film in.
I feel accomplished with the work I have donem I have achieved quite a lot of my research with tons of details explaining everything.
What I could do to expand my research and other work is to add more detail in and give more precise, concise detailing to provide a proper picture ofhow my research is influecing my work.

Found above are my location ideas found around Wollaton Park, taken at different areas of the park. The ideas I settled on for filming were to stick to the open fields away from people, paths and deer. It would give us the least amount of noise disturbances and minimal risk of being interfered by other people passing by. The form I filled in for the location recce outlines what power sources there are and if any will be needed to be used, i.e. portable power pack. What the noise is like, what permissions I needed to receive to film, what security there may be etc amongst other concerns..
For the locations I surveyed, I stayed in one general area. The light source was natural, it was being provided by the sun. Background was more ambient but avoidable. Mostly the sound of traffic on the nearby roads but it was easily ignored. Other sounds may include sounds of birds or children. Measures to background noises are easy, I shall be staying central and avoiding crowds and the roads. There were minimal security problems to consider, same for permissions to film on the premise. Minimal measures needed to be taken for own personal safety of oneself and personal property.
Wollaton Park is pretty large and it’s easy to avoid people and vehicles in.

Here are my annotations for my survey results as part of my primary research. I needed to do a survey to find out my demographic and psychographic profile of my audience so it can help me plan out my short film and how I should go about doing it.
1) My results show that my majority demographic are young people aged between 16-18. This is influencing my work because it is giving me an idea of what kind of atmosphere or aesthetics I could use in my short film
2) My results show that there is an equal amount of males and females in my demographic, with one person identifying as a different gender. I won’t need to do anything different to appeal to these two other than stick to my original plan.
3) My results show a high percentage of people enjoy comedy, horror, action and fantasy films. The short film I am producing falls into the comedy and horror genres with the surreal concept of what is going to happen. It’s unexpected and has the potential to be slightly uncomfortable to a younger audience. I think my short film will be appealing to the horror and comedy fans.
4) My results show that more than half of my audience enjoy watching weird videos online, which is influencing my work by giving me confirmation that my short film should be appealing to my intended demographic and psychograhic audience
5) My results show that a majority of my audience are open to changes being made in their favourite films, but whether they like it depends on what the change is. This can work in my favour with the sudden tone change my short film is going to have at any point during filming and post editing.
6) My results show that only a third of my audience watch comedy sketches online, This doesn’t bode too well as this limits my psychographic audience ever so slightly
7) My results show that everyone loves cookies! Except with raisin. This will benefit my work because the short film is centered around cookies so my audience will likely be watching to see how good the cookies look.
