So I was just thinking about Renn, and about her love for archery. I found it pretty incredible that a twelve year old, with barely more than five years of experience, could outshoot clanmembers who’d been hunting for longer than she’s been alive. I think that for her, there’s more to it than the thrill of the hunt, or the satisfaction of hitting a target. I don’t even know if she’s innately more talented than the average person, or if it’s purely through practice. She might very well have innately better hand-eye coordination, but we don’t really know. And I don’t think it matters either.

I think that there are a few more reasons she’s so passionate about her bow, besides enjoying archery for the sake of it. I think that she used archery as a way to distract herself and keep herself busy because she wasn’t very well liked in her clan, and also to define herself as something other that a mage.
We all know how much she disliked learning and using magic. It was probably a way to see herself, and for others to see her, as a hunter first and foremost (I think it was even mentioned somewhere in the books). I’m not saying she’s only into archery to gain more acceptance in the clan, but it might’ve been a factor, even if only for a while.

Other reasons are also that Fin Keddinn made her bow and taught her how to use it. He was her favorite person, and it was their special thing. He also taught her to shoot shortly after her father died. Shooting became a way for her to channel her grief, and to find a sense of control after feeling powerless to do anything while her father was missing, and even moreso after the news that he’d died.

It might as well just be that she’s just innately better and therefor it was more enjoyable and satisfactory for her and that’s why she’s so passionate, but I would be very surprised if the above reasons didn’t have anything to do with it.
But either way, if the above reasons are true, and she didn’t start to love it purely out of talent, it’s became such an integral part of her, and she became so good at it, that she’ll never willingly give it up. Even though she’s not with her clan anymore, worrying about her unpopularity, being pushed to become a mage, seeing Fin Keddinn, or grieving about her father.
did I mention Renn is literally the only reason the world didn't end. She's the only reason Torak didn't die repeatedly. Torak might be the protagonist but Renn is the real hero.
[Image description: A digital drawing of Renn and Torak from the chronicles of ancient darkness book series. They sit next to a fire, Torak is looking into the fire and Renn is looking to the right. To the right there is a tree. Their shelter is leaning against that tree and behind the shelter there are bushes and some trees. The orange from the fire lights up both Torak and Renn and the inside of their shelter.]
Tried to figure Eostras design a while back and idk i kinda like this one tbh, i was a bit inspiered by eagle owls and their features. I also tried to like make her not actually look that intimidating because i think it would be interesting
Hehehe nef and torak to accompany my nef posts, the third book is one of my favorites
[Image description: A digital drawing of Nef (the bat mage) and Torak from the chronicles of ancient darkness book series. The drawing isn’t colored and is just lines. Nef is standing to the left, in the foreground and is holding a torch. Torak is to the right, behind Nef and he’s looking up with a slightly concerned expression. He has bangs and shoulder length hair. They’re in a cave and above them there are a lot of bats who hanging upside down.]
In theory i don’t like this drawing because of the hands and because he looks older than he probably was but like dark and ark deserve more content so like idk i guess its dark finding ark
Idk if people even remember my torak’s mom post but anyways here’s her and durrain because I think they’re cool (durrain is the one to the left)
[Image description: A digital drawing of a youger version of Durrain along with my imagination of Torak’s mother from the Chronicles of Ancient Darkness book series. Torak’s mother crouches in the forground and is looking down at the camera with a smile. Behind her stands Durrain with her hands on her hips, also looking down at the camera with a more subdued smile. Both women have black long hair although Durrain’s is wavy Torak’s mother’s is straight. Durrain has light brown skin and Torak’s mother has skin that is darker shade of brown. Torak’s mother wears a greyish brown t-shirt like garment with a lighter pair of pants and Durrain has a similar t-shirt looking thing but with a few more layers at the front and a layerd skirt instead of pants. Behind them there are birch trees. The image has an orange light coming from above and behind and a slight blue light on the characters.]
