Jonathan Rachel Clynch, a high-ranking broadcast journalist for the Irish network RTE 1, has come out as genderfluid.

Clynch has been going by Jonathan Rachel online for a while, but so far viewers still officially know him only as Jonathan Clynch. He told his bosses that he’ll sometimes dress in more stereotypically feminine ways, and that he’ll continue to use he/him/his pronouns. 

Clynch is now on holiday but will return to work in October, when he will be formally identified during on-air segments as Jonathan Rachel Clynch.

Gender fluidity is an overlap or blending of genders, where people sometimes identify as being more male and other times as more female.

RTE said in a statement, “Both as an employer and broadcaster, we value the uniqueness of individuals and encourage diversity and equality.

“We are 100% supportive of Jonathan Rachel who is a valued member of staff and a highly respected journalist.”

Genderfluid is a fairly new identity category to a lot of people, and it’s heartwarming to see Clynch’s colleagues and loved ones support him. Looking forward to his return to the air – and hoping for a similarly warm welcome from his many viewers.
