Dear FL Voters
Especially NE FL, because I know for sure it applies: Double check your polling location as there has been massive redistricting. It's causing very long lines so save yourself some time and check before you go!

“When I started doing my solo show one of my good friends, Martha, said to me, she’s like, ‘Kamau, you can’t end racism and make sexism worse.’ And I was like, ‘What do you mean by that?’ And she went through my solo show and pointed out all the different parts of it that she felt were sexist. And that’s a good friend, a friend who will tell you that in a way that you can hear. And that was a real revelation for me is that you can’t sort of pick your issue over other people’s issue — that if you want to end the ignorance of something, you have to end all the ignorances or at least not make some of the ignorances worse.”

Caution: Complaining Ahead
Usually, I'm the first one to say that being in the military is just like any other job, just with a lot more travel. Today, I'm having a really hard time with that statement. My husband has been gone for four months, and I won't see him for another three. I had a garbage piled on top of garbage day, and I can't even call him to complain and cry. It feels really unfair today. Living in a strange place, with people I don't know, and no family is really taking a toll on me today.

I think that the altercation between Jax and Ima is despicable. I think the violence towards Ima isn't necessarily towards her. Rather I think that Jax is angry with himself for hurting Tara when he tried to push her away. Unfortunately, Ima was the one who he cheated on Tara with so he puts more blame on her than on himself? So, when he hears that Ima pulled a gun on his mother, fiance, and infant son, all he sees is red and he reacts instead of thinks of another way to approach the situation.
I can see (sorta, even though it's total bullshit) the characters motivations to do it, my question is more to the people telling the story. The scene doesn't really seem to fit into the overall narrative framework of the show, and hasn't really came up since. It seemed really out of place and didn't work for me in any way.

Teevee Thoughts
So I'm re watching Sons of Anarchy Season 4 in anticipation of next week's season premiere. I just watched the episode where Jax has his "altercation" with Ima. I'm not sure what the hell else to call it. I had huge issues with it when I aired, and still do. I'm wondering why it was written that way, and what purpose it serves to the story as a whole. So far, I'm not coming up with anything. Of all of the not great things Jax has done, this bothers me the most. Is it supposed to show that he is just like Clay? That despite what he (and we) may think, he is just as hateful and disgusting as the rest of them? There's absolutely no justification I can come up with for that scene that isn't completely rooted in misogyny. I generally enjoy the show, and for a show that takes place in a male centered world, I think that they do a pretty good job wportraying strong dimensional women. While there has been some violence toward women in other instances, this episode feels very different. Gemma's rape was depicted as despicable, Stahl's death was in no way related to her gender, and Gemma's beating at the hands of Clay was the nail in his coffin. Why then, are we supposed to be on Jax's side when he beats Ima? Because she slept with a married man (other characters we love have done that)? Because she's a prostitute? I don't know, and I don't like it.
