We focused on our lives and did our best and time flew by. Of course, there were times when we bickered.

Everyone has unforgettable memories from a certain year of their life. They cherish those memories so much that it lasts a lifetime. And for us, that year hasn’t ended yet.

As a student who has been learning about the History of the world for about 13 years, my understanding of the topic, "What are "History" and "Historical Sources" is quite vague since I usually don't question where History is being derived from and whether or not they are supported by evidence. Before reading the text, I would also like to include that since I was younger, my interest in History hasn't been piqued yet, so my knowledge is minimal; but as I grew older, learning more about History has been one of my favored forms of leisure during the pandemic. I am ecstatic and intrigued to know the depths of History itself finally.
While reading the text, I was invigorated to read that so many sources and reasonings are involved for the legitimacy of an artifact or piece of information that can reform, renew or even reaffirm a particular culture's History as we know it. Although the whole text had many engrossing discussions, three topics piqued my interest, the first being "Artifacts as Sources of History" this got my attention because it was so simple yet very complex. One of the primary sources of crucial historical factors would be items and documents recovered from various eras of life, which would become the main contributor to support or contradict any hypothesis or statement. The second would come from the sixth chapter, "The Problem of Authenticity of External Criticism" this made my curiosity go feral since I had so many questions about how anthropologists would confirm the authenticity of a document or item to be possible, centuries older, and question its validity. Anyone can come up and present an object and claim it as x,y or z, and anyone would hardly ever question it since nobody can confirm it to be one. As mentioned in the chapter, forgery, illegitimacy, and fabrication have been used to support political propaganda and have been used to manipulate social cues and beliefs. Some legitimate documents have been considered spurious since they mislead already supported and confirmed ideas that happened during a specific century. Heavy skepticism is also vital in verifying the authenticity of a document; this chapter made it clear to me how long and complicated the process is and how hard historians have worked to preserve the truth and origins of cultures around the world. Lastly, under the same chapter, "Certitude Vs. Certainty" has been the most significant "Aha!" moment because this section made apparent the obvious truth of how complex the solid truth is brutal to protect and maintain. Statements, discoveries, and breakthroughs will always be constantly contradicted, no matter what History says.
After finishing the text, I learned that History and the discovery of its sources had numerous complexities and contradictions within itself. History has been its enemy since sometimes the truth is misconceived as falsity. This text emphasized to me the importance of History itself, how its discovered, made, and understood by historians to put out into the world and reshape society and norms. Although I have a few queries, why does History have to be one-sided? To quote former UK Prime Minister Winston Churchill, "History is Written by the Victors" I interpret that as how History, although very lengthy and to some boring, is only focusing on the Victors who served their agendas at the time; these known heroes are for sure not alone, so why is it that History only creates a one-sided story where it focuses only on a specific part of the story, rather than giving focus on every decision and person included in it?
