My mom has schizophrenia. She had bad days, bad months even, but the stuff I remember is her teaching my sister and I how to swim (she was a competitive swimmer as a teen and I was always jealous of her grace), I remember her bringing me tea in bed every morning and cooking a full English breakfast on Saturday mornings. I remember her excitement at my wedding and when she held my children for the first time. I remember her empathy when I was at my worst with my own mental illness and my multiple sclerosis.
I go to work, no one knows I'm schizophrenic.
I make prosthetic feet, none of the costumers know the person who made their prosthetic is schizophrenic.
I go to the grocery store, none of the fellow shoppers or cashiers know I'm schizophrenic.
I take the bus, no one knows I'm schizophrenic.
I go to concerts, no one knows I'm schizophrenic.
I sing karaoke at bars, no one knows I'm schizophrenic.
I pass my neighbors in the stairway, no one knows I'm schizophrenic.
I walk in the park, none of the owners of the dogs I pet know I'm schizophrenic.
Sure, these people may notice that I seem anxious, odd, maybe spaced out at times, but they don't know I'm schizophrenic.
So you don't know that if the strangers around you are schizophrenic either. We are ~0.3-1% of the population. We are everywhere. We are your coworkers, your classmates, your neighbors, the people at the grocery store or on the bus, the people singing at the bars and concerts, the people in your friend group or family. We are part of your community, part of society, part of your life. You wouldn't know unless we told you, and we often don't because of the unfair stigma against us.
Just please consider that we may be close by the next time you choose to make fun of us, or demonize us, or erase us.
And yes, we are also the people speaking to someone that isn't there on the side of the road, or living in a long term psychiatric facility, or locked up in prison, but we are all still part of your community, part of society and part of your life and deserve the same respect that any other human deserves.
Just because you don't care about us, doesn't mean we aren't there.

Then when he kisses the Not Scully in Triangle, it’s the opposite. There’s no hesitation, no pause, just a fast but passionate kiss, the kind of kiss he’s been probably been fantasizing about for years but would never do in reality. He knows he’s possibly facing death and this might be his last chance, no time for hesitation. When he touches the bruise from her punch, his face is reverent. It’s beautiful.
The thing about Mulder is that he’s very thoughtful about kissing Scully.
He’s pretty liberal with physical contact, but he kisses Scully in what five different episodes in the original run? Assuming we’re counting Memento Mori’s forehead kiss and the almost-kiss in FTF.
And we know from cut scenes they played with the idea of having their first kiss be during this scene, so it makes sense that I’m picking up all the vibes that David’s leaning into: Fox sure is thinking about kissing Scully properly after that forehead kiss. But he doesn’t. He waits and he watches and she closes back up and he lets her go and to me that’s even better than had he kissed her.
In Fight The Future, the man spends a solid 30+ seconds just staring at Scully and the way I read their facial expressions is that 1) Mulder wants to kiss her but this is a familiar urge for him and he won’t cave to it, 2) Scully realizes maybe for the first time that he wants to kiss her, more importantly 3) Scully doesn’t back down in the face of this realization, so 4) Mulder realizes she’s not backing away from this intimacy. And even when he has the opening he’s so slow and careful about it. And then of course we get that godforsaken bee, which he interprets as her closing of and he apologizes before he realizes whats actually going on and cue a very panicked 9-1-1 call.
In Millenium, they’re all smiles and lips. Mulder’s really brave in that one he instigates it with that look and she gives it right back so he goes for it and they act so normal about it and it’s just sooo
Don’t even get me started on the Season 8 finale kiss. She’s holding their baby and they’ve been pretending for months that it’s not his and they stand their with their son and admit the truth without even uttering a word because let’s be honest they’ve never been good truth-tellers. They are agents of action, not words. He asked her to tell the truth and they showed it. (This show is THEE blueprint for “show don’t tell”)
And naturally he’s all over her when they reunite in The Truth but at that point they’re both desperate for the other’s affection so.
Anyway the point is that one of the many things that makes Mulder thee man of all times is that he respects his wife’s boundaries.

I got a couple chapters deep on one a few years ago, something about a ghost of a doctor in an abandoned asylum and human sacrifice. They all end up in a bar one upping each other.
I was really struggling with the mystery part of it and got stuck 😕
does anyone else think abt a spn txf au . mulder and scully run into sam and dean while theyre on a hunt… they both just confidently show off their fbi badges because why would they think mulder was fbi
they say we think its a monster and mulder smiles and scully just puts her head in her hands and doesnt believe a single thing sam and dean say
then castiel appears while theyre all in an autopsy room ans scully almost shits herself

We don’t have a dishwasher and I can’t stand for long or grip wet dishes. Using disposable cutlery and dishes is self care for me.
straws are accessibility tools that let some disabled people drink . I’m sick of ppl demonizing them

Except my imposter syndrome still thinks the other person would say “quit whining it’s not that bad”
anyone else wish they would get roped into a freaky friday body swap situation just for the hope that the other person will go "oh jesus fuck how do you live like this" and instantly validate your feelings of being Strange and Built Wrong.

at a conference I attended recently, a researcher pointed to the difficulty of finding material in archives because so much depends on the metadata and the terminology used to describe things changes over time. "it would be so helpful," the researcher said, "if I typed 'lesbian' into the library of congress database, it would also show me results that were categorised in the 50s, when the materials were interpreted as 'intimate female friendships'"
which is what tag wrangles at Archive Of Our Own do incredibly effectively: searching for "omegaverse" also leads to "alpha/beta/omega dynamics" and "alternate universe: a/b/o" and so on. but ao3 achieves this frankly incredible categorisation and indexing system by the power of countless volunteers putting in hours and hours of unpaid and unthanked free time, and it's completely understandable that most archives do not have that kind of infrastructure, but also how incredible that a fan-run website has better searchability, classification, and accessibility than the library of congress

do fic readers know that their comments actually influence the course of the story sometimes? i don't mean in a "you need to write it this way because i say so 😡" type of comment, i mean when people are asking questions or really engaging with the plot and the themes in the comments they sometimes bring up things that i didn't even think of, or dig into parts of the story that i've overlooked, or get really interested/fixated on something i was going to just kind of glance over--and it has me going 'oh wait that's actually really interesting, that's a good point' and fully adding or tweaking or changing things about the story going forward. i'm literally adding an entire additional chapter to something right now because someone's comment had me like "oh i didn't dig into that as much as i could have." you have impact!

My older family members disprove of my marijuana use. However it’s the thing that helps me eat, sleep, not be in pain 24/7. It’s gives me the ability to be myself again for a little while.
Society needs to get something through their heads: people who deal with chronic pain are not 'drug seekers" in the sense of just wanting something to get high. We are seeking them to get out of the agony we're in.

I always say their relationship shaped how I view relationships. If you read up on Relationship Anarchy, they are doing exactly that. RA is essentially the idea of love without expectation.
If you read Perihelion, it’s a perfect example. They work together, they’re having a baby together, they live together, but Scully makes the point that they’re not really in a romantic relationship despite all that. They flirt, they kiss, they have shower sex, but they’re not ready for a romantic relationship and they’re okay with it. They’ll get there but in the meantime, they make dinner together and sort through the mess in their office and decorate their new place.
the craziest thing about mulder + scully's relationship is that THEY dont care whether or not they're dating. like, they kiss sometimes and its whatever. they work together. they call each other while they're in the bath. they flirt and play baseball and sometimes they hate each other and never once have they tried to define it. i think that's so neat.

I hate, hate, HATE the term “affordable housing.” I hate that we’ve normalized it. I hate that we just accept that the majority of housing, a basic human right, is unaffordable to much of the population. Housing should be affordable as a baseline. If rich people want to add arcades and gold-plated hot tubs on top so be it, but everyone, everyone, regardless of income level, should have access to a clean, comfortable home with enough light and space to make life worth living.
