I cannot get over how Elden Ring, despite his penchant for vague timelines and histories, gives us a fairly chronological way to track Miquella’s journey in the Land of Shadow.

It’s no accident that Trina was discarded on the southern part of the map. She opposed Miquella early- enough that he had to sever her as to not doubt his convictions. It’s important that he got rid of his capacity for love early. It’s important that when we speak to Trina, her concern is for Miquella alone.

The Secret Rite Scroll is found in the Shadow Keep. This is presumably how Miquella learned about the vital ritual of resurrecting a Lord in order to ascend. I feel we are meant to understand that Miq did not know about this requirement until he reached this point- after he divested himself of doubt and love. Without that restraint, he could only endeavor onward. He had sacrificed too much already.

the last thing he gives up in Enir illum is his fear.

All of this is simply why I cannot buy the theory that Miquella was always wicked, and masked it to get his way to the detriment of others. Particularly of Mohg. I feel that if Miquella was manipulating Mohg for this goal at the outset, then Miquella had to have known about the requirement of the Lord Ritual. But if he knew that, then his journey through the shadow lands to retrace Marika’s steps is redundant, right? If Mohg was always Miquella intended victim, would Trina have mentioned it? Wouldn’t Trina have warned us? Perhaps not, but dialogue in souls games tend to be deliberate even in their vagueness. Either Trina knew the full extent of Miquella’s plan and chose to withhold information from us, or Miquella’s full plan was only concocted later, once he found the scroll in the Shadow Keep.

and lastly, if this was always Miquella’s mastermind plan from the beginning, why was he so afraid?
