The Incredible Voyage of Bill Pinkney from Lorie Conway on Vimeo.
Bill Pinkney's dream--to be the first Black man of any nation to sail solo around the world-while navigating all five of the southernmost capes--came true in 1992, when, at the age of 55, he finished his journey in Boston. I was there filming him when he arrived. I was also in Bermuda filming all the main interviews seen in the film with Bill, before he headed up the East Coast on the final leg of his incredible voyage. Ken Sullivan is the gifted cinematographer who shot all of the interviews and sailing footage in Bermuda. I wrote the film, and directed the narration with Bill Cosby, from an audio booth at WCVB where I was a staff producer. Mark Mills, is the Executive Producer of the film, who first dropped a box of tapes, most filmed by Bill Pinkney during his voyage, on my desk at WCVB. "See if there's a story in there," said Mark, who then encouraged and inspired me to produce the Peabody Award Winning film, The Incredible Voyage of Bill Pinkney, that also won a Cable ACE Award. Now, it's time to see if Captain Pinkney's story can become a feature film, inspiring future generations to pursue their dreams, however impossible they may seem, and wherever they may lead them...

Honoring Care-Givers #ThatsHomeThatsUs from Lorie Conway on Vimeo.
As a filmmaker, I wanted to find a way to honor the caregivers on the frontlines of the pandemic, while also saying that we’re all in this together. I’ve created a short video, see below, with voices from around the world based on Carl Sagan’s “Pale Blue Dot.” I’d be grateful if you’d share via Facebook, Twitter, email, etc. It’s an inspiring message. #ThatsHomeThatsUs
