Does anyone have any advice for coping with not liking your own art? I'm trying to work towards having art I don't hate but the stumbling block of hating my current work is kinda destroying me.
#sorry the goal isn't to whine#I'm trying to sort my shit but its really difficult to do everything solo

Part of the reason I'm so adamant about encouraging people to get comfortable with bugs, my own interests aside, is because we cannot have a bright, solarpunk future without them.
A green future is not a bugless future. It is, in fact, a fairly bugful future. If you care about ecological stability, then you need to start with bugs, because they're the most at risk with our current use of pesticides.

Trying to get back into making and sharing art. Here's a portrait of Taeshalee (psion and professional moron) and her BFF Scythey McSwooshy (weapon). I'd be delighted to talk about this blorbo so feel free to ask questions!

It's a silly idea, but I'm throwing it out there! Art Fight is coming up, and maybe you've been so busy preparing your fave characters that others have gone by the wayside. Or maybe you have a blorbo with plenty of art, but could use a ref that clarifies a few details. For a limited time, I'm running a ref sheet sale!

The panel on the left isn't just random. It's a scene from Taeshalee's past when she was trapped in the plane of shadow. While she survived Taeshalee's sanity never fully recovered.

(there's actually a species of mason bees that use snail shells as housing for their young. https://www.wildlifetrusts.org/wildlife-explorer/invertebrates/bees-and-wasps/red-tailed-mason-bee its cute as hell)
hi guys i was trying to rescue a big fat bumblee bee and all i had on hand was a moon snail shell so i caught it in that and took it outside but now it won’t come out. i shook it a few times but it just buzzed angrily from deep within the shell.
so anyway if i accidentally just created a new species of shell-wearing armored hermit bees that’s my bad. sorry.

Saying this right fucking now.
I don’t want to see ANY of you touching that fuckass new Harry Potter series.
That woman has set us back YEARS. YEARS. And whose money is she using to do it? People who continually support her and her sorry excuse for a book series.
If you simply must watch it? Pirate. It’s not hard.
Do not give her money. Do not give her a platform. Do not contribute. Please.

Liz Toohey-Wiese, 2024.
"A sign installed in the largest wildfire burn I’ve ever seen, along the BC/YK border. Borrowing the aesthetics of BC Recreation Site signs, once again pointing to the overlaps of outdoor recreation, resource extraction, and the consequences of the climate crisis. Most recreation sites in BC exist along previously built logging and mining roads.
“Forced into a great and difficult transformation” was a line I heard in a lecture on Buddhist philosophy I was listening to on my drive up north. But it became another mantra I thought about while living in a place that’s been utterly transformed by resource extraction over the past century, and as I thought about the burnt landscapes I drove through."
More here.

"You handled it so well'
No, I didn't. I went insane, lost my spark, bled in silence, shattered in private, and wore a smile that lied better than any mask could.
