Choir Boy

It’s not easy being gay at a Christian boarding school for young black men. Beautifully sung, written and acted.

Eddie & Dave
Off Broadway true story
West 16th St
Running time: 95 minutes, no int
Entertaining telling of the story of Eddie Van Halen and David Lee Roth. Women play all the male parts and a man plays Valerie Bertinelli. Very off Broadway but enjoyable if it’s a subject you’re interested in.

Prom
Broadway Musical
West 47th Strret
Running time: 2 1/2 hrs, 1 intermission
I’d like to think not allowing gay students to a high school prom was a thing of the past but according to this show it still happens. It’s predictable but enjoyable with some great dance numbers.

The Ferryman
Broadway Drama
West 45th Street
Running time: 3 hrs 10 min, 1 int & a 3 min break
A multigenerational Irish farming family in early 1980’s. Head of house is former IRA and the body of his brother who has been missing for 10 years has just been found. The acting is great including impressive performances by the many children on the stage. Social, political and personal storylines interweave brilliantly. If only it wasn’t so long.

From the North Country
Off Broadway Musical Drama
Public Theatre
Running time: 2 1/2 hrs, 1 int
1933, Minnesota. Depression theme. Music by Bob Dylan. Not my favorite arrangements. They seem to be trying to fit his songs into a story or vice versa. It doesn’t work. And the 1930’s is not the best time frame for Dylan’s music.

To Kill A Mockingbird
West 44th St
Broadway Drama
Starring: Jeff Daniels
Running Time: 2 hrs, 50 min, 1 int
Mid 1930’s Deep South and Atticus Finch is defending a black man in a rape trial. A great story which eerily kept reminding me of race relations in this country today. The acting is great and the story is still relevant. Go see it.

The story of Joan of Arc from her mother’s perspective. Still not a happy ending. Well acted and interesting take on a well covered subject.
