Syril study because wow, what a phenomenal character arc. I was thinking about the interview(s) where Gilroy has remarked that "ultimately, fascism eats its young," which led me to playing around with text too

thinking, as always, about Miss Dedra and about how miserable she was about Ghorman from day one and what would have been the result of her trying to quit

because she's given the project and is like "i don't want it" and Partagaz was like "lmao ok nobody asked if you wanted it." what would have happened if she was like "actually i want to quit the ISB entirely"? would they let her? or would she know too much already on account of having attended the Worst Meeting in the Galaxy?

whether or not she would ever have taken it is an entirely different question but was walking away even an option?

Hello everyone, these two are back again. And the weird homages too.

I don’t know what it says about me but I will always pick Dedra over Elisa, even if just for the fact that she is better written character and even though you can’t relate to her much, her personality and her actions are still more reasonable to me.

Dedra was the product of being denied normal life and she was trained to be a perfect imperial machine, she was genuinely good and smart and of course in her own story Dedra was doing the right thing. She followed the path they’d set up for her and she wanted to serve the system for the sake of it. No it doesn’t mean Dedra is good, literally no one can justify what she did, I’m just saying that in her mind Dedra was convinced she was bringing order and justice in a world where other people tried to destroy it.

Elisa couldn’t come with such excuse because she knew what she did. She cheated on her husband willingly, she killed three people (I count her father as well) and even though it were all accidents she still chose to lie about it and do selfish decisions to protect herself while she hoped no one would ever know. Elisa knows very well what she is doing, she lives with huge guilt but I don’t really fell sympathy for her.

Honestly it’s so hard to put my thoughts in a few words because both of these characters have their BUT.

However I think it’s easier to like Dedra more than Elisa because you see better in what she’s doing, she is strict and cold and not a good person, but she is still so interesting to watch as she’s trying to prove herself in a world that still challenges her and throws her in situations she has to accept because the same system that is forming her to be the perfect soldier is also slowly choking her as the illusion of having any real power and free will fades and she is forced to swim when they throw her in the middle of the stormy sea.

Elisa on the other hand is just a really shitty woman doing shitty decisions that might perhaps remind you of someone real in this real world where real things happen. I know her childhood was also horrible, she lives with trauma and climbs over mountains for her own children and tries to be a better parent, but it doesn’t make her likeable. There is so much going on with her but she is just boring and not interesting even though she should be, she’s the main character after all.

So yeah, Dedra is… Well, Dedra, but as a character in fictional world I’m picking her

Watching The Stolen Girl. It's soo good. Dedra Denise does an amazing job.

no but hyun-ju's character is so fucking impactful in today's political climate specifically. squid game really said here's a trans woman who is incredibly kind hearted and gentle but capable of great violence when it's needed. she's gotten herself into a bad situation because she has no other way to fund her transition and that's not framed as something stupid and shallow, but as a heartbreaking reality that many people face irl. her past as a military man is one of her greatest strengths. she protects the weak and the elderly. she dies for two women she befriended in a BATHROOM a few days prior.

Among all the atrocities they did to Dedra Meero in s02 is changing the way her iconic bun used to look like probably the most insignificant but also the one that personally hurst me just as much

Something was definitely waiting for them, it mattered only on the point of view if it was good or a disaster. Dedra balanced on the edge to make her mind about it. She sacrificed enough time already to convince herself to think rather positively. The other option... Felt too scary. Too destructive.

And she desperately needed Syril to be without doubts on her side.

Dedra couldn't face this alone.
