“Naki? That’s a nice name.”
The way Naki said that brought back memories. He smiled a little.
“It’s nice to meet you Naki. Do you want to be friends? You can help me in my garden at any time if you want. I need the help since I get sent on missions a lot. Lenalee is nice and waters my flowers when I’m gone, but I miss them. I don’t think she talks to them like I do. I read you’re supposed to talk to flowers to help them grow. I’ve named them all and tell them stories so they can grow big. Oh, do you want me to introduce you to the flowers? I can if you want.. but they don’t talk back.”
Naki is quiet for a long moment. He’s certain that he knows nothing about keeping plants alive and probably shouldn’t be trusted with such a task. He hardly wants to be responsible for killing off something that has a name. Even so, perhaps he’d be able to talk to them if that was all he was expected to do. He’d have to work on speaking in more than short phrases, though.
“What sort of stories do you tell plants?” His mind first goes to telling them anecdotes about what happens to bad little flowers who don’t grow, but Alma seems a bit too gentle for such tales of fear.

rotasuboi:
The closeness between the two didn’t bother him. Alma wasn’t one for boundaries, so he was happy someone was close to him and not trying to kill him. Alma tilted his head at the question. He never had been asked a question like that before.
“Flowers? I just grow them, but some people use them to make things like perfume. They are really pretty though and smell nice!”
Alma smiled at the stranger, glad they finally talked. Best of all, they hadn’t yelled at him or said anything mean like Kanda always did. He definitely made a new friend out of this in his book. Alma and… wait. He forgot something.
“Oh! I’m sorry. I forgot to ask your name. You already know mine, but I don’t know yours. What do you want me to call you?”
Naki’s mind struggles with the idea of ‘just growing’ some random plants being a worthwhile endeavor. Looking and smelling good were by no means bad things, but seemed rather trivial compared to aspects that could aid survival if exploited in the right way. But he isn’t about to express any of those concerns, not when he wants to stay close to this person. Besides, it seems to bring them pleasure regardless, so why bother bringing it up?
“They call me Naki.”
He’s still adjusting to being called anything, honestly. He’d gotten through his early life with no one around to really even need a name. But when he actually had eventually been asked, he’d said what first came into his head--for some strange reason that he didn’t understand--and it had become his name. “Nishimoto Naki.”

rotasuboi:
“Alright! Wait until you see all the flowers I’ve grown! Oh, my name’s Alma!”
Alma seemed to talk a lot. As he rambled on about the flowers and how beautiful they were as they walked to the garden, a smile was on his face. It had been a while since he made a new friend.
“… and we can be friends too! You can come and see my garden when I’m gardening. Just watch out for Yu… he’s pretty grumpy. It took me FOREVER to become his friend. Oh, look! This is it!”
Alma pointed to a large field of flowers that seemed well cared for. There were all kinds of flowers there. It seems there was also a hole being dug near them. It didn’t seem that big yet, but whatever it was for was too big for a few flowers.
“Al...ma...” He mutters under his breath, trying not to say too much and risk cutting off anything of Alma’s speech. Naki follows him closely, probably more closely than is normal for two people who technically just met. Naki has yet to fully comprehend social things. Specifically, in this case, boundaries.
Once they arrive, Naki takes a moment before he can move his eyes off Alma to the plants at which they are gesturing. He knows nearly nothing about plants aside from which ones are more pleasing to eat. He wasn’t even entirely aware that gardening was something people did. All his plants of interest grew naturally in forests and stuff.
At some point, he finally speaks a full sentence. “What... do you do with them?”

Naki listens silently. There is... something in this person’s voice. Something he felt like he’d been listening for. It was why he had bothered approaching the stranger, something he’d rarely do otherwise, and why he had just said the first thing to pop into his head. He was glad he’d gotten a real response. It gave him the chance to hear more than eavesdroppings from across a room.
At the offer to see--and, more importantly, hear--more, he simply nods. He isn’t going to pass up the chance to listen to this person’s voice and study it more.
#hope its alright to continue c:#also I don't mind if you have icons or not; I've run iconless before

Being grilled by this stranger is the last thing they want at this moment in time , but it doesn’t escape their attention that this person seems to have some other knowledge of the Akuma. Lavi narrows an eye at them , recollection not pulling anything as to the knowledge of who the person is. An undercover exorcist ? But if that were the case , they’d have recognized the insignia on Lavi’s coat.
It would have to wait until later. Right now the important thing was to get the potentially-suicidal person out of here before they both ended up dying somehow.
❛ That doesn’t matter right now , and ‘less y’can do somethin’ , stay right here , got it ? ❜ Straightening from their crouch , they twirl Tettsui around. ❛ You and I can talk later about why you’re bein’ reckless an’ tryin’ t’throw yourself into a fight , ‘kay ? ❜
Naki listens to the person, careful to try and clearly understand every word, in case it gives more away than is being explicitly stated. No one’s ever told him not to destroy monsters before. He’s been told not to do plenty of other things, sure. But nothing like this.
‘unless you can do something’
The statement makes Naki stand a little straighter, watching the other person doing... whatever it is they’re doing.
“And... What if I can do something?” He says, foot beginning to tap impatiently. All this talking is not something he’s used to. There’s something right there for him to fight, and his body is itching with the desire to do just that.

Naki very nearly dislocates his arm trying to lunge forward-- opposite the direction he ends up being pulled in by the intruding stranger.
He glares at the one who dared to grab him, wondering if they were working with the monsters. Why else would they have stopped him from attacking? But, in a display of great self-restraint on his part, Naki holds off on attacking, confused by the words the person is speaking.
“I should be saying that to you. What is your involvement with these monsters?”
another one bites the dust … or not. @lostepistemology
Of course people love to stop and gawk. They’ve learned this fact many times. You try to keep them out , they come right back - worse , they do what this kid did and literally throw themselves straight into the fray instead of playing like a nice kid and not doing that. ❛ You damn brat , get outta there ‘fore you die ! ❜ They move to grab them , reaching out and yanking the stranger away from the bullet rain , staggering backwards. Covering them from the barrage , Lavi’s scowl only sours more. ❛ I don’t know if that’s your goal or anythin’ , but I think I’d prefer if y’stayed outta the way instead. ❜

❛❛ Not necessarily. Some people are only in it for whatever glory and cash they can get out of it. ❜❜
He hesitates a moment. “Glory and... cash? What good are those?” Says the guy who doesn’t really care about other people and has probably never paid for anything in his life, ever.

He is in the cafeteria, shuffling back and forth on his feet. This is where he was told he could get food, but he’d realized that it would require going up to the counter and talking with the people behind it. And he had no idea what they were saying to get the others to serve them. So Naki stays back from it all, eyes staring and mouth starting to water from the smells in the room. He bites down slightly on the knuckle of his thumb, trying to work out a solution to his predicament.

The robot is down but there are more!!!
Six more!!!
“Oh, um…”
He’s surrounded.
It is only be accident that he notices that the man he was with has stopped running and has become rather encumbered by the monsters.
He springs at the one nearest himself, which manages to swat him like a fly out of the air into a nearby structure (or, what used to be one that is now a pile of rubble).
“Not nice.” He reprimands, quickly launching himself back into the fray, still kind of ignoring that there’s anyone else around for now.
