final reckoning is so drenched in loss and grief it’s crazy to think that all of that is still the adrenaline phase and ethan later has to eat and sleep and crash back down to life outside of the goal

i honestly just can’t imagine what it must feel like for ethan to try to live without luther. like (girl who has experienced a normal amount of death in the last 6 months voice) it makes me cry to think about. i just can’t imagine what it must feel like to wake up for the first time in 30 years and not have your closest friend. not have the person who understood you best, the person you instantly connected with and could never ever push away even as you got lonelier and lonelier. i can’t imagine what it must feel like to end an assignment without him for the first time. without him there to call you corny and make you pay for his beers. it must’ve meant everything to get to hear his voice that last time, know that he prepared for that and he needed you to have that, he needed you to know that you’re always loved and there’s so much waiting for you. it just makes me sad to think about the “after.” all of the times that he can’t call him and can’t reminisce on something with him and can’t ask him for help or advice. ethan’s never known his current life (post- the loss of his first team) without luther and that’s all different now. this one constant through deaths and teams and marriages is gone and he’s not coming back.
