1) this takes place shortly after their wedding, they’re already on ithaca and this is seconds before or after a kiss and probably say something along the lines of “i love you so much, penelope of sparta” “it’s penelope of ithaca now, my love” because they are very cute and in love.

2) i love colors a lot and love giving them meaning: for me the main color of the ithacan family is blue (mainly because ithaca is an island and bc i saw it in other designs), that’s why both of them wear blue. but what is most important color wise are their wedding rings: they both have three gemstones. the two small ones are odysseus’ blue and a light pink one. that’s because the spartan’s main color are different shades of pink or a pinkish red. the main reason is because i wanted helen’s color to be pink and clytemnestra’s color to be something similar to blood (for obvious reasons) so i gave penelope a light pink in a design i made a while ago and the stone’s exactly that color. the third stone, the largest one, is purple because it’s a mix of both of their colors (that is also the reason why the background is purple). odysseus’ hat is red because it is in most depictions of him but i tried to make the red a tiny bit more pink.

3) i always listen to music when i draw something and have a playlist for every ship i draw and on my odypen playlist are very many taylor swift songs and these are some of the lyrics that really fit the drawing imo:

“i don’t wanna look at anything else now that i saw you, i don’t wanna think of anything else now that i thought of you” (daylight)

“i laid the groundwork and then saw a wide smirk on your face, you knew the entire time, you knew that i’m a mastermind, and now you’re mine” (mastermind)

i can only imagine the emotional whiplash iphigenia experienced in the version of events where she ends up in taurus because on one hand she's just had the single most terrifying day of her life and now has to come to terms with the fact she might never see her family or home again and the entire can of worms that is her feelings on her father at this point but ALSO she is a teenage girl smack dab in the middle of puberty and she's somehow just managed to win the admiration of a cute demigod boy and THEN get bridal carried by the beautiful and buff goddess of the hunt herself so one must picture her at the end of the day feeling like she's gone through the full spectrum of the human experience at like. fourteen

Playing the sims and menelaus has been workin the soil literally all day

so, like, the whole thing in The Odyssey where the night lasts longer when Odysseus reunites with Penelope is great for a lot of reasons. Obviously there's the idea that they had lots of sex (which I love don't get me wrong, and there is never enough odypen smut in the world bc of things like that)

but the detail that's really great about it, and why I love arworks like Francesco Primaticcio's “Ulysses and Penelope”, or fanart inspired by it like this, is that much of that night is just them talking to each other.

Odysseus and Penelope tell each other about their experiences while they were apart. She tells him of her suffering under the suitors and keeping the kingdom together, and her own loneliness and grief. Then he tells her everything about his journey. The losses, encounters with monsters and gods. Circe and Calypso. He tells her all of it, that very first night. (I like how this is reflected in Epic as well, in 'Will You Fall in Love With Me Again', both lyrically and musically).

idk I just get very emotional about the fact that its their first night seeing each other in 20 years and they just spent it talking and being open and honest, while alternating between like cuddling and having sex. it's really sweet, but it's also interesting because they're both characters who spend a lot of time playing tricks or lying, and have even just done it with each other only a little earlier. But now they are reunited, both of them have dropped their masks and pretense and are laying themselves bare, literally and metaphorically. They are just husband and wife, just Odysseus and Penelope, finally home together as they wished for all these years.
