Game Levels.
As the aim of my game is to level up to escape, I was thinking of the types of levels for my game and I was thinking of making the tunnels more complicated as you level up.
My game is set in a giant warren (that is where rabbits live) and its dark, you are small in this warren and the zombie rabbits are much bigger than you, sort of like the size difference between a human and a rabbit but flipped so you are small and the rabbits big.
In my game you have to run through the tunnels and chose the right direction to get to the next level. If you take the wrong turn then you hit a dead end and you have to try to choose the right solution to get out, if you get it right then you have a head start but can still be caught and if you don’t get it right you have to start at the from the very beginning again.
Overall I think that there would be around a 100-130 levels, using Rayman Legends as an example as it has 120 levels, to make the game more interesting and less easier to complete. After you complete a level it would be set out so a map comes up on the screen and you unlock a new tunnel each time you complete a tunnel.
As you get to the end of the tunnel you see a bright light and a ladder that leads up, you have to climb the ladder and escape, when you get out you go back to normal size and then the rabbit follows also going back to normal size and then it retreats back into its warren.

More Process Shots...
I think the thing that I did wrong/could have worked on during this project was that with this project I did not have enough process pictures that documented the development of my mask very well, I think that I should have taken more pictures even if it was of minor changes to the mask as it is all vital informational pictures that I missed, even though I wrote about the small changes I don't think that it really helped me when the time came to make the process sheets as I didn't have a good amount of pictures to make more than a couple of process sheets this is because I only took one photo for each major modification to my mask.
Usually with other projects I normally take two or three pictures of the same process whether it be the minor and major things and then I would write about them in more detail. As well as the issue with taking less pictures with this project I also I lacked the detail in explaining what I was doing and did, which also stumped me when doing the process sheets, I feel that I also feel that I wasn't as critical for my final product again.
I actually feel like more thing should have gone wrong as then it would have allowed me to write about the mistakes that I made and what went wrong in the project and how I fixed it or could have fixed better. I should have wrote more about what I would and wouldn’t do next time and more ideas that I could have done instead for this project. This is because my work needed more analysis however I have gone back over my blog and I have changed most of my analysis to make them more critical and more informative of my process and work thank it was before.

Merchandise?
I have been asked the question if my mask would be portrayed as merchandise for my game, this question got me thinking as I hadn't really thought about what  the purpose for my mask would be and whether there would be more ideas for game merchandise.
So after thinking about the question the answer would be yes. I think that if the was real then it would be really cool if the mask was merchandise for my game, the reason is because it isn’t a very popular route to take for merch and I think it would. be very interesting, as it could be used as a mask for a costume or as a room decoration.
If the game was real I would be thinking of other merchandise ideas such as posters, t-shirts, keyrings and so on. Merchandise can be really vital for the development of a games audience and the income of the game, this is because the merch can attract new consumers as people see the merch and get interested and want to try the game and buy it or the game players are so invested in the game and design that they want to buy the merch, both earning the company money, so considering this in my opinion, merchandise can be a necessity to the growth of the game.

David Carson.
David Carson is an American graphic designer and surfer. He is best known for his innovative magazine design, and use of experimental typography.
I found the talk very long and boring at some parts however I think that some of what he said was interesting about his work and what he does. He talked about designing pages for magazines and company logos that he designed for big companies. He also spoke about his process of working and his how he took pictures of random things when travelling for inspiration. He talked about his surfing journey from when he was younger to now and how it is his way of relaxing.
His work is made from distorted images and fractured imagery that features his distinctive typefaces, this making his work notably recognisable through out the industry of graphic design.

Books that I used for inspiration.
At the start of the project I wanted to base my work around the book ‘The wasp factory’ because for my past projects I have ended up doing some sort of fantasy related project except for the last one which was my sea turtle, I found that it was to neat and cute for the message I was trying to portray, this inspired me to do something out of my comfort zone and chose something creepy, which I thought ‘The wasp factory’ was suitable for.
As I was developing ideas for my project, I started looking into death and skulls as it is a main feature in ‘The wasp factory’. I think that it as my ideas evolved I ended up taking elements and ideas form ‘Pet semartary’ and I decided to make a mask prop of a rabbit skull as I thought that it could be interesting to try and make look ‘creepy and scary’ which I hadn't really achieved before.

Apex.
I found the talks at the Apex were very helpful and insightful as to all of the different mediums of art professions. Personally my favourite talk was from the illustrator David Hughes, I felt that his talk was very comedic and relatable, I also loved his art style as I think it is enjoyable to look at, I especially liked the look of his book Walking the dog, which again is very comedic.

Euro Gamer Expo
As someone who doesn't play any games I think that Euro gamer expo was a good experience, I did find it hard to relate my project to a game as I don't play them and I don't think that I want to relate anymore projects to games but I think Euro gamer expo helped me as I found it interesting how all the different games attracted different audiences.

Painting.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The first layer of paint i used a light shade of gry, I eventually started to darken the deeper parts of the mask using darker shades of grey, to make the eyes, nose and the holes in the cheeks appear more deeper I used black. For the teeth I used a yellow white colour and then used washed down grey arylic paint over the top to appear more dirty. I made the centre of the ears darker with the outer edge and used a sponge to blend the edges better.

Mask Final Result.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I like the way that the mask turned out, I feel that I have made it look creepy and scary that I haven't managed to do in my past projects. I think I did a good job on the colours. Making the two front teeth bigger and adding the back teeth was a good choice as I think that it adds to the creepiness and more horror to the mask. I contemplated adding fake blood to the mask to the teeth however I thought that it would take away some of the elements of the mask.
I would have liked to have dried brush some of the parts of the mask with a variety of shades of brown to add the illusion of mud/dirt as the mask is very cool toned with the greys and blacks, I think this would have added a different type of element to the mask especially as the ‘game’ is based in warrens/tunnels which is dirty.

Audience Target.
As my game is a scary horror game I was conflicted to whether I should make it a PEGI 7 or a PEGI 12 because I wasn't sure how gory I want the game to be.
I decided to make it a PEGI 12, the reason is because I made the decision that I wanted it to involve blood and gore which may not be suitable for someone younger than 12 years old.

I drew some quick rough sketches of designs of ideas that I had for a book cover to do with the game that I have designed, I decided to keep them relatively simple and keep the “villain” as the main focus of the cover, the rings in the background are meant to resemble the tunnel/warren as that is where the book and the game are set, so I wanted them to have a presence in the book cover.

Mask Process 5.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I added more detail by making small holes which are found in skulls, I made them in the nose area, the corner of the eye sockets and the side of the temple area, I made a part above the nose that tapers as it shows that in reference pictures.

Mask Process 4.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I used Apoxie Sculpt to cover the front part of the face and smoothed it out and added details to the nose hole, I also made the front nose bridge and smoothed it with a wet finger as it helps to blend it more smoothly, I put it the two front teeth in the front sculpting lines into them to add more realism.

Mask Process 3.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I added more cardboard to the front of the mask to create the top part of the jaw and then I used Apoxie Sculpt which is a self hardening modeling compound to make it thicker, I then used paper machè over the top to shape it and make it more smooth. I also used the Apoxie Sculpt to create the eye socket bone and the top part of the cheek.

I then used paper machè to cover the cardboard using water and flour as it is easier to sand down and also dries quicker.

Mask process 1.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
To make the base of the mask I used a cardboard face, I then used another piece of cardboard to the bottom of it and I also made the eyes of the mask bigger like the shape of a rabbit skull.
