They're really bringing to the fore what is one of the biggest weak points of Rhaenyra's claim to the throne. Daemon.

Everyone knows that Rhaenyra was proclaimed as heir OVER him. That was Viserys' choice.

Her being married to him means putting him on the throne as her consort (and as there is no existing model of male consortship in house Targaryen) essentially making him King. As he continues to act without her approval he's further undermining her claim because as far as external people will see it, by upholding their oath to Rhaenyra they are also breaking an implicit vow to the old King to keep Daemon from the crown.

It's one of the great historical references to the anarchy - where Mathilda's claim was a weakened by mistrust of her husband who was unpopular and had rebelled against her father. I'd highly recommend looking up studies into male consortship and the challenges it bought - even in the 20th century - of how to navigate a system of monarchy.

There is this weird problem in the house of the dragon fandom happening during the drop of the trailers for the second season that's like. People forgetting what the characters actually are and being surprised when they act like themselves

In particular people who ship Daemon and Rhaenyra acting like Daemon isn't an incredibly abusive man who killed his wife that one time and then get surprised when he's characterized as the violent abuser he is. Like he's a rogue prince with a moral compass so loose I don't think it's ever pointed north. Him acting like a violent abuser is not a mistake of the writers.

Similarly, the Aemond fans who seem to forget he's a boy literally raised during a misogynistic campaign against his sister and probably told over and over again that women are too emotional to rule yada yada. Shocker! He thinks his mother (a woman) is too emotional to make decisions and he has to take charge because "her love blinds her". Like that is misogyny against women in power 101.
