If this boy’s face hadn’t been so endearing, Louis would’ve silenced him the minute he started speaking, but he was feeling amicable today, so why not humor the student. “Ah... but if you were generally hot natured, the cool rocks would feel wonderful and if spiders and bugs were part of your diet, you’d be in heaven... would you not?” Teaching was never Louis’ strong suit, but being around hundreds of years did give one a bit of wisdom from time to time.
“Actually... I prefer darkness, since technically, without this ring, I’d be burnt to a crisp.”

Louis had a long day and night. Having filled his belly full of blood, he found himself actually desiring real food. One stop at a tiny little place and he was now sitting at a table, two slices of cheese pizza in front of him and a cup of coffee, black. He had almost completely ignored the man who sat near him, instead focusing on an article in the local paper. However, when the man’s voice continued, he figured Louis would at least acknowledge him, maybe then the sounds would stop.
“Two answers. One, most likely. The catacombs of the school offer a perfect climate for them to mate and two, plenty of creates need dark dank spaces to exist in. You are obviously paying too much attention to rumors to listen in your lessons.”
THE OL’ RUMOR MILL | Kiyong & Louis
If there was one thing Kiyong still hadn’t completely adjusted to, it was the fact that there was an entire buffet of greasy food at his fingertips. The only problem? Having to wait in line. He rubbed an idle hand at his eye, unconsciously listening in on the conversation two students in front of him were having — “No, dude, seriously! There’re real molepeople in the catacombs; Chase saw them.” — and, well, it certainly wasn’t the least plausible thing he’d heard all day. With all the different people running around campus, anything seemed possible.
Kiyong settled on the slice of pepperoni pizza, one of his fast favorites in the short time he’d been there, before making his way back out to a nearby table. “Two questions,” he began as he sat, offering a disarming smile to the person already there, “one: do mole men really live underneath this school? And two: why would anyone ever want to live in a nasty cave of all places?”

Thema was a mom. Maybe that was why things never quite panned out between them. Louis was a wild child, not one to be wrangled into anything. Too caught up in the feeling and passion surrounding him to really care for anyone apart from himself. It may have been a factor in driving them in separate directions, but it’s also what made Thema so appealing. Her nurturing and caring nature filled a small spot deep within Louis’ chest that he hardly acknowledged. To have someone care for you, to watch out for you and to even want what’s best for you, well that was foreign to the vampire until he’d met Thema.
“Well you dated me, you must have liked challenges.” He grinned. “Hmm I never took you for the poly-amorous type, but I won’t say that I hate it. I am sure men would line up on the block to have a shot with you.” Louis slipped off of his chair and left money for his coffee.
“Mmm... I like the way you think, Thema.” He held out his arm for her to take it, intending on leading her out to his car. “We’ll see if we even make it to your place.” He purred in her ear as he opened the door for her.”
Force of Nature || Louis & Thema
“Well I’m a mom, I have to be prepared for anything and everything.” She chuckled. “I’d be happy to teach you, its a skill you must learn anyway. I’m quite the teacher, I’m told.” It was nice being around him again. The two of them slipping into a comfortable routine wasn’t new. They always did this, falling into old routines when they were together.
“Oh I’d be such a good caretaker. Oh! I’d be like Miss Peregrine! Have you read that book? Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children? Hamida made me read it. She said that the teacher was just like me.” Thema nodded, agreeing. “A mad house it would definitely be. But I’m always up for a challenge.”
Thema gave him a smirk, pushing him playfully. “Oh hush now. I’m not that much of a piece of work.” She sighed, placing her tea cup on the counter. “He satisfies me, but I’m not the only woman in his life. I’ve always been one for monogamy but we’re not together or anything, just having fun.” She turned to face him. “I wouldn’t mind having another man to occupy even more of my time though.”
She hopped off the stool and delicately placed a five on the counter. “Only one way to find out. Let drive towards your cute little place and we’ll see if its close to mine. If it is, we can head on back there and I’ll show you where I’ve been living.”

“Sara... lovely name.” He smiled at the warmth of her hand, pleased to have caused her breath to catch. “And trust me, the pleasure’s all mine. Shall we?” He motioned forward, back in the direction she was heading. “So Sara, tell me a bit about yourself? Apart from being brave and daring enough to walk these streets alone at night.” He didn’t normally talk to meals, but maybe if she entertained him, he could keep his fangs to himself this evening. Everyone deserved a free pass at least once, right?
Hunger of the Pine || Sara + Louis
Sara looked back at him as he stopped walking. He reached out his hand for her to take, although a segment of her brain told her not to, the risk taker in her couldn’t deny a challenge. “Louis?” She repeated his name before slowly extending out her hand to shake his. As she placed hers in his the cool temperature of his touch was rather startling at first. It cause a shudder to run through her as her breath hitched for a moment. “I’m Sara, it’s a pleasure.”

He had to chuckle. Her brazen attitude definitely made him want to keep following her, even if that had to opposite effect on others. “Ah... then they are not only neutered in this town but also lacking intelligence. The wild reckless ones are always more fun.” He winked, moving in time with the beat of her heart, the pulse pounding in his ears. “Where are my manners... I’m Louis Cheng... and you are?” He stopped, reaching out a hand to greet her, curious to see if she’d have the guts to take it.
Hunger of the Pine || Sara + Louis
Sara smiled at him as he continued to follow his face. He certainly thought she was a meal. Which for some reason she was more amused by this than she should be. Perhaps it was her secret rebellious nature. “Yeah, the vamps around here have been reclusive towards myself.” She nodded as she combed her fingers through her hair. “Or maybe I’m just a little too reckless and I find danger to be more fun than a young human girl should.” She admitted with a shrug of her shoulders.“I never got your name by the way.” She noted as she glanced sideways at him. “

Louis was pleasantly surprised by her courage. If she smelled human, she most likely was. Maybe this town made people feel too bold, too safe. “That’s because we’ve never met before.” He grinned, keeping pace with her. “This town breeds odd people. In other cities one flash of my fangs, and bang, everyone scatters, but here, they just point you in the direction of the hospital. So very odd. Tell me, are most of your vampires neutered here? Is that why you do not seemed worried?”
Hunger of the Pine || Sara + Louis
Sara sighed a little as she realized he was going to be following her. She folded her arms tightly across her chest as she arched her eyebrow towards him. “Oh so you like to chase, then I’ll bet you think I look tasty,” she nodded as she continued walking. “Funny, I’ve lived here my whole life and no one has ever tried to make a snack out of me…well that is until now,” she laughed as she glanced sideways at him. “I must say I’m somewhat flattered. Even though I’m not interested in being your blood bag thank you so much.”

“Prepared for everything as always. Thema.” He smiled. “A lesson in texting. I suppose... if I must.” He took another sip of his coffee, sighing pleasantly. This sort of comfort between them was nice.
“A foster home for creatures of all shapes and sizes, huh? That could be quite the mad house, but if there is one person who could handle it, that’d be you.” Her nurturing nature always intrigued Louis, especially since he was so void of any similar feeling.
“A man can’t possibly handle you and others, you’re plenty.” Thema knew Louis, she would know he meant that as a great compliment. “But, if he is not satisfied, then neither should you be. I am sure you would have no issue finding others to occupy your time.”
“The house is lovely, nothing too fancy, simply comfortable with a few luxuries I can’t live without. I wonder if we live close by? It would be convenient, no?
Force of Nature || Louis & Thema
“Well, my children taught me to text. I’ll teach you, it isn’t so hard once you get the hang of it. Just make sure not to drop it. The phone will crack or break depending on the surface and how far it falls. You should get a phone case. I have an otterbox, its pretty much fool proof.” She nodded. “I miss letters too, but not so much The Pony Express. They were way too slow.”
“Yes, I always have all my little ducks in a row. I don’t know what it is, I just always have the urge to help and nurture. Maybe after I’m done being a professor I can become a full-time foster mom of sorts? Children definitely need good homes, and I have more than enough money to do it. Besides, I could give those kids more opportunities than anyone else. I may look into it, who knows?”
Thema blushed. “Ah um, no. No boyfriend for me right now. Research purposes, yeah okay. I see you Louis, I see right through you!” She teased. Thema felt the need to tell Louis about Ephram, since honesty was the best policy in her book. “Not exactly. But um, I do have someone that…occupies my time. It isn’t strict or anything. He does want he wants with other women, at least I think he does. I haven’t exactly done anything with other men, but I’m willing to change that…maybe. I mean, if he can go around screwing other women, why can’t I?”
“Ah, see! I was right! I was completely right! How are you liking the house? I live by the sea too. I have a nice view from my house.”

“Reverse psychology?” He shrugged, moving a step or two away as her hands obviously reached for a weapon. “Relax, blondie, you’re too tiny. Wouldn’t be worth the fight.... but if you’re packing, then you must know this really isn’t the place to be once the sun goes down...” Concern wasn’t something he really showed, but she seemed nice enough. More than he could say for some people in this town.
Hunger of the Pine || Lou & Mel
Melissa tensed as the man walked closer. Normally she wouldn’t, but his words were just creeping her out, putting her on edge. “You’re dangerous?” she asked curiously. “Why would you tell me if you were?” Her hand started to creep towards her purse, where she kept her gun.

This girl had a bit of kick in her. Louis could appreciate that in anyone, male, female or dinner. “I never assume.” He took a few steps towards her, intent on following the young woman in whatever direction she was heading in. “Most women... even people in this town can handle themselves. It’s frustrating, but makes the chase more fun... don’t you think?”
Hunger of the Pine || Sara + Louis
“Oh please,” Sara rolled her eyes as she crossed her arms over her chest and stepped away from him. He had that allure about him that was hard to deny. Still she was smart enough to smell trouble. She took a few steps forward before glancing over her shoulder over at him. “Are you assuming I’m not the sort of girl who can take care of herself?” She asked as she arched her eyebrow at him. “Now that just hurts my feeling.” She pouted playfully.

Hmmm, pretty blonde, smelling lovely. Cinnamon maybe... or something spicy sweet. “Much appreciated. You know... Sumner isn’t the safest place to be walking around alone...” He took one step closer, curious to see if she’d react to his movements. “Dangerous people such as myself around every corner.” He grinned, a sincere smile. He was dangerous, but he must be provoked to go too far.
Hunger of the Pine || Lou & Mel
Melissa spun around when she heard the voice behind her. Maybe she was out a little late, but the Chinese place was running late when she got there. The man’s gaze seemed surprisingly determined for just a simple question and she pulled out her phone, showing the time to the stranger. “Nearly 10:30.”

“Trouble? Me? Never.” He grinned like a Cheshire cat. “I would say more like the lesser of evils?” He leaned up against a nearby railing, eyes trained on her. “Walking alone at night, you could’ve easily bumped into someone much less savory than yours truly.” Louis never really ate to kill unless the person he was drinking from has wronged him in someway. So far, this woman had been sweet, he wondered if the same adjective could be used to describe her blood.
Hunger of the Pine || Sara + Louis
Sara looked at him for a long moment. “Because I was just got off work. So I was walking home.” She explained as she combed her fingers through her hair. She got an odd feeling from him. He talked like someone much older than he appeared. She wondered what he was. She also noticed he was walking around her like an animal. She followed his gaze, very unsure.
“No offense sir, but you seems a little like trouble to me.” She smirked ever so slightly as she admitted this. She folded her arms across her chest. “Am I wrong?”

Louis smiled, whether it was fake or not didn’t matter. “I apologize for startling you.” He bowed his head. “May I be so bold as to ask why you are walking here alone at night? This city is far too dangerous... one could easily fall into the wrong hands.” He moved around her, like a bird circling its prey.
“Do you need an escort home? I’d be more than happy to see that no one else bothers you this evening.”
Hunger of the Pine || Sara + Louis
Sara was on her way home from work, she usually walked quickly when things were like this out, you know dark scary. She knew that girls shouldn’t walk alone at night, but she also didn’t know anyone who was willing to walk her home. Maybe Deputy Tommy but she didn’t really wanna seem like a scardy cat and call him to come escort her home. She was walking along trying to remain alert when she heard a voice that made her jump.
“Ah! You scared me,” she breathed as she placed her hand over her heart. She blinked at him for a moment. “Oh um hang on.” She reached into her pocket to take out her phone. “It’s um 10:36.” She responded before glancing back at him.

He’d heard the story before, hell he’d lived it many many years ago. This phase was something of a right of passage for vampires. “Being rich isn’t all there is to life, though a nice beach home and fast car help.” He grinned, sipping his coffee. “Ah... parents didn’t accept the blood sucking and aversion to sunlight... shocking.” Humans didn’t understand them and to Louis, it didn’t matter.
“Everything matters. It may not be life or death for you like it could be for some, but those who can live forever have the power to change quite a bit throughout the years. And each person we kill causes a ripple in the water that has a domino effect for anyone close enough to feel it.” He wasn’t much for spouting wisdom, but it poured forth anyway.
Heather sipped the coffee slowly, smiling. “I’m from Boston. Kicked out of my family after they discovered my,” she exaggeratedly put the following words in finger quotes, “dangerous abilities.” The liquid stung her tongue once she quickly bent her neck down to take another sip from the cup. Cringing, she rested her head in hands, snorting as quietly as she could. She was a mess.
“I’ve been here for only a couple of years, unlike most of the vampires. I’m not that old, not that rich, just..” she trailed off, not sure what to add. “I work from nightclub to the next, so I’m not that talented. I didn’t even complete my educational career.” A few more steady sips. “Don’t get me wrong, I don’t really mind. This life..it’s pretty great. I get stay young forever. Anything I do doesn’t really matter, does it?”
Heather kept to herself. Didn’t socialize much. Met people and moved on; that was just her life. Don’t get too attached, don’t care too much, and certainly don’t feel emotions.. too often. Those were her rules. She lived by them.

“Does this mean I will have to learn how to text? Insanity. I miss the days of horse run mail, much more personal and meaningful.” He’d learn to text for Thema though, it couldn’t be that hard. He’d learned how to use computers after all, though typewriters were still his favorite.
“You always had a few young witches trailing after you. A regular mother duck of sorts.” He was always impressed by her maternal instinct, the way she simply took care of those who needed it, especially other witches like herself.
“Boyfriend. Seems like a funny title these days. So Tell me Thema... is there another boyfriend in your life now.... you know for research purposes.” He grinned. Surely Thema had found a lovely witch to at least occupy her time. This town was full of options. That much Louis had learned.
“A beach house. Something simply yet elegant about 20 minutes outside of town. You know how I love my seclusion.”
Force of Nature || Louis & Thema
“I have a feeling I’ll be using my phone often, now. Though I only really use it to play this one extremely addicting game, and to shop. Never to call or text. But I’m sure I’ll be doing it a lot from now on.” She blushed when he winked. Thank the gods for immortality. If Thema lost Louis, she didn’t know what she’d do. It was nice having someone always there for her, and now that she finally had his number, she’d be able to contact him whenever. “Oh shush. I can say the same for you, still looking good.”
Thema shrugged. “Yeah, but I’m done trying to please her. A young girl by the name of Esme lives with me now. She’s a witch too, very peachy and extremely sweet. She’s not replacing anyone so to speak, but its nice to have her around. She’s like another child of mine, you know? Esme reminds me of Hamida. I’m sure when the others join me, they’ll be the best of friends.”
“Oh hush, you were the best boyfriend you could be. I enjoyed our time together, you know that.” She took a sip of her tea, mirroring his movements. Thats how the two of them worked, it was like they were tied to one another, mimicking the others movements subconsciously. “Its quite quaint…too quaint. Barely any people of color here, its…slightly disheartening. But I’ve been welcomed with open arms, so that’s all I could ask for.” Thema pushed her tea aside and rested her chin on the palm of her hand. “So, where are you living now? No wait, lemme guess. You got either a penthouse somewhere or you’re living in a cute little house by the sea.”

Hunger of the Pine || Open
The night was colder than usual and Louis was famished. He moved down the boardwalk, passing meal after meal. He always was far too picky for his own good but this was all a game to him, cat and mouse that needed to be played strategy and skill. Without that, it was just murder and murder was boring.
“Excuse me, do you happen to know the time?” Eyes golden and trained on the person a few feet away from him.
