In my opinion the most marvelously original and beautiful piece of Fabergé of all is the Winter Egg from 1913, made of rock crystal and diamonds. The precious basket of white quartz flowers shown fits inside. It was given by The Czar to his mother, and designed by Alma Pihl. I see this egg as a symbol of hope, since one looks through the frost and cold “ice” and sees the springtime bouquet glistening within. This object is in a private collection.

In 1902 Beatrice Ephrussi de Rothschild purchased this wonderful pink and white enameled gold Fabergé clock as an engagement present for a member of her family. The rooster rises from an opening at the top to mark the passage of time. This piece remained in the family until 2007.
