Y'all ever think about how children's media is the only media to really put priority to friendship (ex: the power of friendship) and how once you grow up media starts to shift towards a focus on romantic love and sexual relationships and how that kind of puts out this idea that valuing friendship is a childish thing you need to grow out of and replace with romance and sex cause I do.

I don't know a single thing about football but I've found out that no matter what team a person supports, everyone is praying for the downfall of a guy named haaland who has one of the whitest first names i have ever seen (like ERLING??!? WHY WOULD ANYONE NAME THEIR CHILD THAT!!! A TRAVESTY!!!!) and based on that alone I've made up my mind.
Not that anyone cares but the other two whitest names are "Chad Michael Murray" and "Channing Tatum" and it always makes me cringe.

It's so laughably easy to distinguish between the "extremely online" blogs and the ones who show up once a day and just vibe in their own space and don't give a shit about the latest issue the internet has taken upon where they twist something said in good faith so they can find a way to personally feel victimized by it and then spend the rest of their day seething about it.
I kind of wish I wasn't doing law just so I could write a thesis this internet phenomenon for a psychology major, it's a gold mine.

everyone talks about unrequited love in a yearning, "I just want them to love them back the way I love them" but let's talk about the beauty of unrequited love......you can just be secure in loving that one person for a realllly long time, have no expectations of loving them, be carefree of literally anyone else entering your life and stealing your heart because you've already given it to someone else unknowingly, you love that person so much that their happiness is the utmost priority to you even if their future may not lie with you, it's having butterflies in your stomach when they talk to you and just basking in in that pleasant feeling, it's taking in all the teasing and knowing looks from your friends knowing that you will never tell that person how you feel because you are content with the current status quo without hope for anything more, ITS JUST BEING HAPPY IN A PHASE FOR A LONG TIME WITHOUT WANTING ANY CHANGE AND ITS SO BEAUTIFUL
#unrequited pining my beloved...... the only constant in my life#i love knowing that this is it for me#i don't want anything more#its such a pure form of love ahhh

Fine Line: A Lookback on Lyrics. Part 2
Lights Up
The song that welcomed us all into the new era. Lights Up feels like someone took paints and brushes and they wanted to paint a small canvas but they ended up painting the sky. It's just that impactful.
It very clearly ponders on the questions of identity and its importance and meaning, and being unabashedly who you are, no matter what anyone says.

We see Lights Up as not only the opening track to the era but also as Harry's way of saying: I am going to be nothing but honest about myself.
Themes of an identity crisis ring throughout the song as the line from the chorus, "Do you know who you are?" echoes through empty hearts and halls, asking the very pertinent question of, "Are you honest to yourself? Even if the world does not, do YOU know who you are?"
Lights up and they know who you are
Know who you are
Do you know who you are?
These questions are so loud that we forget that the answer to them was given to us before the questions even existed. We know our selves, but we get so wrapped up in the questions that we lose track of us
All the lights couldn't put out the dark
Runnin' through my heart
On first glance, Lights Up is that person who will ask you deep questions to mess with your brain. But, in reality, it is the exact opposite, they will ask you these questions, because they want to show you who you are, they want you to figure out who you are, because what life is a life spent in the unknown darkness? Being afraid of all the things in the world and yourself? Because all Lights Up sees is a glorious person, lost in the dark, and it breaks their heart and they cannot stand to bear it.
Cherry
Bitter sweet & petty. That's what this song is. Okay I'm going down a bit of translation rabbit hole, so bear with me. Cherry, in french is pronounced the same way you would pronounce chéri, which in English, translates to Dear. Now, usually chéri is paired up with mon, which can be written as Mon chéri. Which translates to "My dear" in English. To name a song about heartbreak and missing your partner, as "My dear" — to cleverly hide it all in plain sight is just a stroke of absolute genius.
Cherry, at it's best, acknowledges that the other person is doing well and fine, and it's worse, which is the very next line, acknowledging that they are selfish
I, I confess I can tell that you are at your best
I'm selfish so I'm hating it
At it's best, it knows the value of impact that their partner has had on their life, knows the impressions the partner has left — the good parts — and is happy for their presence. Giving me the idea of, "I am sad it ended, but I am still happy us happened"
I noticed that there's a piece of you in how I dress
Take it as a compliment
At it's worst, the song is hurting to see their partner move on and do the same things they used to do with a new person.
Don't you call him baby
We're not talking lately
Don't you call him what you used to call me
Cherry is, as I said earlier, a bittersweet heartbreak song — where you know it's over but you cannot move past it. It's you drowning in hurt and jealousy and happiness and relief at the same time. Cherry is staying up till 4 am, because you are too anxious to sleep, because you are trying too hard not to check their tweets, or Instagram stories, but constantly thinking, "Do they miss me? Are they thinking of me?" It's tired eyes, and messy hair and seven shots of expresso at 8 am the next day and still have their memories playing on loop at the back of your brain. Cherry is petty because they are hurting, because they cannot believe that this, too, ended.
Falling
The song I fell in love with. A simple piano ballad that will send shivers down your spine. That alters your reality somehow. You come out the other side a changed person once you listen to it. The vocals are plain and raw and brimming with emotions — the song digs deep on one of my deepest insecurities. "What if I am someone I don't want around?"
It starts as a lovesick story, the lyrics set the stage, and our protagonist is alone. And it ends with them almost drowning, heavy breathing, glad to be alive but barely.
You said you care
And you missed me too
And I'm well aware I write too many songs about you
And the coffee's out
At the Beachwood Cafe
And it kills me 'cause I know we've run out of things we can say
Running out of things to talk about, is possibly, the most heartbreaking thing that might happen to anyone. You don't run out of things to talk about, discomfort and distance finds its way in — at first it's just a slit under the door but before you know it, distance is the reason you cannot breathe, cannot talk, cannot be yourself around a person. It strangles you, and has a chokehold on your heart.
Falling is the person who is actually terrified of love, but they are swimming in it anyway. They know they will suffer through love and enjoy the good parts, but the break up and the aftermath will ruin them. I genuinely feel bad for people who are like Falling — is it a curse or a blessing to feel so much, to come out of beautiful experience with such a heavy heart that you even regret going through it? Somedays I wish I could share their burden. I wish I could fall to be terrified of love, but alas I cannot

Fine Line: A Lookback on Lyrics. Part 1
Since Harry said that new music is dropping soon, which means we can literally be hours away from officially entering HS3 era, I thought it wise to do a lookback on Fine Line and look at the songs one last time through a, semi-literary perspective. Also, because, I promised a friend on twitter I would do this after my finals end. So, here it is.
(Disclaimer: Harry has never commented on any of his songs, thus leaving them open to interpretation. This is my interpretation, with a small literary twist. If it does not align with yours, it's fine. Scroll away.)

Tracklist:

Watermelon Sugar

Fine Line
Golden
The opening song to the album — and it does everything it needs to be doing. It draws you in.

The first five lines set an imagine of late mornings — imagine waking up at 11:30 am in a dark room and someone opens the curtains without telling you. These five lines remind me of that. Waking up to blinding light but you cannot for the life of you look away // "Take me back to the light" // but you know you shouldn't // "I know you were way too bright for me" // be looking in the first place.
You know those people who are obsessed with sunrises and sunsets? They wake up to watch the sunrise, make time for sunsets no matter what they are doing? They are scared to be alone, so they'd risk their schedule and commitments because those sunrises and sunsets are the only constant thing in their lives. Golden is both, the person who wants at least one thing to stay consistent in their lives, and the one who does not mind change at all. It alternates between the two.

Golden is scared about commitment and love and heartbreak and loneliness that follows a person after the death of a relationship. They are very much aware of the fact that they don't want to you to know how scared and vulnerable they really feel // "Don't wanna let you know" // but Golden lets you know that they are here for you by telling you their darkest secrets with such nonchalant that you might miss it if you were not paying attention. Think about your that friend who is going through a lot in their life, but they never bring the room down, one smile and everyone in the room feels their warmth — that's Golden. So, is it really a surprise that the saddest song on the album comes packed with the most upbeat instrumental?
Golden is trying to fool you into thinking that they are happy to listen to, to dance to, and they succeed, almost every time.
Watermelon Sugar
Ah, the notorious track about oral pleasure. The song's extremely simple lyricism paired up with a grand instrumental that builds up over the 2:54 minutes shows the brilliance of production that went into it.
I have seen people say that the song has almost a dreamy, an illusionistic quality to it — and the first thing that comes to mind to support this is the music video, and it is indeed. You just see people having the time of their life and living in their own bubble, not caring about the rest of the world. The euphoria on their faces causes such a serotonin boost.
Now the book by which Watermelon Sugar is inspired In Watermelon Sugar by Richard Brautigan deals with similar themes. It is essentially a tale of young people trying to create a utopia using the remnants of the old one. The book alludes to the themes of youth idealism in a delightfully captivating manner, you want to look away but you can't. You don't want to listen to the song, and yet somehow it's always stuck in your brain.

Themes of intimacy and pleasure and vulnerability are very prevalent throughout the book, and the song very evidently takes that theme and builds up on it. There is no hesitation in the book or in the song, or the imagery either produces when it comes to oral pleasure, but that does not take away from the intimacy of the act.

In his own way, Harry acknowledges the weird madness and the underlying dreamy themes of the song // "I'm just thinking out loud" //

Also, the repetitive lyrics are paired with a phenomenal instrumental, gives it almost a lullaby like quality. Thus, the reason why toddlers cannot stop singing along to it. It's easy to remember, and fun to sing. And it has a fruit in the lyric, which they are supposed to be learning anyway for preschool. Joy for the entire family!
Adore You
As a person who has the ability (or curse) to develop a fondness on literally anyone despite being aromantic and knowing there is no future with them, this is my unrequited love song. Where you love someone, just for the sake of loving them for who they are, you don't expect anything in return and it feels wonderful — the act of loving without any expectations.

Of course, loving someone comes with a fair share of grand gestures and the eminent question of, "How far will you really go for love?" Adore You is ready to walk through fire for you, so long as you let them adore you.

If you know about Harry, you know he likes to read Charles Bukowski, and it should not be a shock (given that Jack Edwards has already pointed this out) that the lyrics "I'd walk through fire from you" are somewhat inspired directly by Bukowski's poem and collection called, What Matters Most Is How You Walk Through Fire.
Adore You is that person who falls in love and falls hard, they get drunk in love and they revel in it, they enjoy it even though they know it won't last, because either they will move on or the other person will never reciprocate. But they don't shy away from falling, for giving their 100% in any relationship, because they honestly love love. And they're not ashamed of it. Even it means coming out the other side with cuts and bruises — the escapism in falling, being and staying in love makes the entire ordeal worth it for them. They will cry but they know how to shrug it off and move on.

the thing about making fun of people for aging or being older than you or disparaging growing older instead of seeing it as a normal part of life and valuing age and experience for what it is.... is that literally all you're doing is shooting yourself in the foot by setting yourself up for a lot of anxiety and sadness in the future because guess what. guess. Time comes for all

currently mourning the versions of me I could have been right now if certain events hadn't affected me the way they did
and the worst part is that they are not even huge events by any means, but they were just impactful enough to make me change so much about myself sub-consciously and I'm just realising it now and it sucks
