theodora  places  a  spoonful  of  ice  cream  in  her  mouth  as  the  other  speaks,  her  eyes  widening  slightly  as  the  other  begins  to  discuss  the  nutritional  value  of  a  spongebob  popsicle.  “oh,  well,  absolutely  good  i  don't  partake,  then.”  incredibly  untrue,  and  her  face  gives  her  away.  “my  body  is  a  temple  or  whatever  the  saying  is  !”

    “   i   think   lick   the   spoon   is   responsible   for   the   ice   cream   ,   must   be   the   reason   for   the   𝐇𝐈𝐆𝐇   𝐐𝐔𝐀𝐋𝐈𝐓𝐘   .   ”   vivi   said   but   ,   truth   be   told   ,   she   wasn't   entirely   sure   of   the   information   she   was   passing   out   .   it   𝐂𝐎𝐔𝐋𝐃   be   a   lie   .   “   and   those   popsicles   are   nothing   more   than   food   colouring   and   𝐓𝐎𝐎   𝐌𝐔𝐂𝐇   sugar   ,   it's   really   not   good   for   the   body   .   ”

she  winces  slightly  as  he  responds,  letting  out  a  short  sigh.  she  wasn't  intentionally  fucking  with  him,  but  things  had  never  been  weird  between  them.  “i  don't  like  it  either,”  theodora  admits,  voice  low.  she  wants  to  ask  if  he  thinks  they'll  ever  recover  from  this.  losing  milo  was  simply  not  an  option  for  theodora  –  she  wouldn't  have  it.  she  digs  into  her  pocket,  pulling  out  the  friendship  bracelet  she'd  made  him  about  an  hour  ago.  “i  made  this  for  you…  as  an  apology.  if  you  think  you're  ready  to  forgive  me.”  it's  nothing  too  fancy  (  just  his  name  with  moon  beads  on  either  side  ),  but  she  had  definitely  made  it  with  love.  “i'm  not  expecting  you  to  wear  it  or  anything,  but…  I'LL  ALWAYS  CONSIDER  YOU  MY  FRIEND.”

“  you've ... seen  him  ?  ”  he  can't  hide  the  look  on  his  features  ,  a  mix  of  confusion  and  disapproval  .  “  are  you  fucking  with  me  right  now  ?  ”  there's  not  stopping  it  as  the  honesty  comes  out  .  at  least  it's  authentic  milo  langley  if  anything  .  he  lets  the  silence  sit  with  them  for  a  moment  ,  trying  to  figure  out  where  their  conversation  is  going  to  land  ���…  &  of  course  teddy  picks  work  as  the  topic  .  it's  safe  &  boring  ,  much  like  the  majority  of  her  recent  responses  .  “  well  you  can  stop  by  anytime  .  i'm  sure  cleo  won't  care  if  you  hang  out  back  there  .  ”  he  knows  what  he  says  might  sting  a  bit  (  he  feels  it  himself  )  but  the  walls  are  coming  up  faster  than  he  can  take  them  down  .  what  exactly  does  she  want  ?  for  things  to  go  back  to  normal  ?  what  was  normal  for  them  ?  “  jesus  christ  ,  ”  he  mutters  ,  head  hanging  low  ,  eyes  zoning  in  on  the  sand  .  “  i  don't  like  this  .  ”

“and  i  expected  nothing  less  !”  theodora  couldn't  hold  a  tune  to  save  her  life,  which  sometimes  made  karaoke  ALL  THE  MORE  FUN.  and,  if  she  got  a  few  drinks  in  her,  she  probably  would  find  her  way  to  the  microphone.  but  she  was  playing  it  smart  for  now.  at  least,  that's  what  she  told  herself.  “you  play  the  UKULELE  and  you  didn't  bring  it  to  the  bonfire  ?!  isn't  the  whole  point  of  playing  the  ukulele  making  sure  everyone  knows  you  play  ?”

“  you  don't  understand  ,  i  won  sixth  place  in  my  middle  school  talent  show  .  ”  remy  brags  ,  a  playful  eye  roll  coming  into  the  mix  .  “  i  should  preface  i  wasn't  really  singing  .  the  focus  was  my  ukulele  but  there  was  singing  involved  !  ”

she  lets  out  a  sigh  of  relief  as  the  other  seems  just  as  concerned  about  their  portrait.  “okay,  I  PROMISE.”  although,  she  can't  exactly  anticipate  how  her  face  will  look  (  and  she's  never  been  good  at  concealing  her  emotions  ).  “on  the  count  of  three  ?”

"Oh my god, well now you have to let me see it." Theodora only had her own giggles to blame for the way Daphne all but reaches across to flip over the canvas herself. "I won't be offended if you agree not to be offended. Deal?" After all, she's no artist either.

theodora  nods  as  the  other  speaks,  envisioning  different  patterns  in  her  head.  it's  kind  of  an  unfair  set  up,  asking  bella  her  opinion  when  she  doesn't  know  exactly  who  or  what  theodora  is  making  them  for.  still,  she  hears  her  out,  because,  who  knows,  maybe  bella  has  a  vision  she  can't  see.  “you  know,  you  just  named  EVERY  BEAD,  which  means  you're  having  the  same  conundrum  as  me.”

"  oh  wow!  they're  all  so  cute.  but  if  you  had  to  make  me  just  choose  one  of  them?  i'd  have  to  say  the  suns.  "  she  glanced  down  at  the  icons  once  more  before  looking  up  at  the  other  while  making  a  decision  as  if  she  was  the  most  indecisive  person  there  ever  was.  "  if  you  were  going to do two, i'd  say  to  maybe  do  the  moon  and  the  stars.  can't  really  go  wrong  with  that,  can  you?  "  she  grabbed  a  few  of  the  beads  that  she  was  going  to  use  for  her  own.  figuring  that  she'd  start  off  with  one  at  first  and  then  go  for  another  after.

“oh,  well  that  makes  sense.  i'm  sure  it'll  be  nice  to  clear  a  spot  on  the  bookshelf  or  something.  some  SPRING  CLEANING,  if  you  will.”  she  looks  down  at  the  envelope  in  her  hands  before  letting  out  a  small  chuckle.  “i  wouldn't  say  exciting…  have  you  ever  felt  you  were  SO  CLOSE  to  something  great,  but  then  you  get  the  end  result  and  it's,  well,  shit  ?”  she  holds  her  envelope  up and gives it a little wave.  “my  attempts  at  GREATNESS.”

Truthfully, Axel had every intention of grabbing an item belonging to one of his roommates to toss into the bonfire, continuing the immature cycle of antics between them, but he ended up with something else in his hands. The curse of being disorganized meant that he had unintentional held onto an old notebook full of half thought-out lyrics and, even worse, a bunch of sappy things he wrote for an ex he didn't even think about now. It desperately needed to be burned. "Uh," he planned on getting rid of a embarrassing collection of pages quickly and uninterrupted before dashing off to something more interesting, however, that plan was quickly derailed as he stood there trying to come up with some sort of lie. "Just some notebook that belonged to a former roommate. Must've gotten mixed up with my things whenever we were both moving out." He would so rather pin the scribbling contained in there on anyone else. "You bring anything exciting to get rid of?" He threw the question back, less out of interest and more to get any and all attention off what he was getting rid of.

theodora  was  probably  one  of  the  few  people  who  found  milo  funny.  perhaps  it  was  the  years  they  had  together  that  made  her  just  understand  his  humor  more  than  most,  or  perhaps  she  couldn't  read  his  tone  at  all.  “i  know,  you're  never  just  in  the  neighborhood  anymore.  it's  kind  of  weird,  you  being  in  the  same  city  but  not  right  next  door.”  she  does  it  to  herself,  bringing  up  next  door  neighbors,  but  milo  asking  where  her  almost  boyfriend  was  definitely  makes  julian  the  topic  of  conversation.  “he's  around  here  somewhere,  i've  seen  him.”  her  instinct  is  to  rest  her  head  on  his  shoulder,  and  she  feels  herself  leaning  in  to  do  it,  but  she  immediately  jolts  up.  she's  cursing  herself  for  being  a  PHYSICAL  TOUCH  girl,  and  she  hopes  he  doesn't  notice.  “how's  the  shop  ?  is  it  silly  for  me  to  say  i  miss  the  beat  up  couch  ?”  work  seems  like  a  safe  conversation  topic.  theodora  wasn't  quite  sure  how  to  navigate  this.  it  wasn't  like  the  two  had  talked  about  relationships  in  depth  in  the  past,  but  now  it  felt  especially  weird. 

the  invitation  to  sit  with  teddy  was  swiftly  accepted  ,  despite  trying  to  play  it  cool  .  there  isn’t  much  extra  space  ,  which  means  milo  is  hovering  a  bit  too  close  for  his  own  comfort  .  normally  this  would  mean  making  some  snarky  comment  to  emotionally  distance  himself  but  the  mention  of  the  pie  brings  him  right  back  into  her  orbit  .  milo  pauses  for  a  moment  ,  trying  to  think  of  a  completely  normal  and  appropriate  response  .  nothing  comes  to  mind  .  “  yeah  well  ,  I  was  already  in  the  neighborhood  ,  “  it’s  sort  of  a  joke  ,  albeit  maybe  not  a  funny  one  ,  “  I’m  surprised  to  see  you  here  by  yourself  .  shouldn’t  you  be  with  your   …  ?  “  he  doesn’t  continue  the  thought  ,  but  he’s  sure  she  can  fill  in  the  blanks  .

theodora  holds  up  the  bracelet  for  celeste  to  see,  a  large  grin  plastered  across  her  face.  it  read  ‘  T  +  C  4EVER  ’.  “okay,  would  you  wear  this  ??  hypothetically,  if  someone  made  it  for  you.”

theodora  is  laying  her  head  on  emma's  lap  less  out  of  affection  and  more  as  a  method  of  trapping  her.  “C'MON,  you  can't  be  that  mad  at  me  !!  i  came  back,  didn't  i  ?  i  was  only  gone  for,  like,  two  weeks  tops.”

“okay,  don't  tell  anyone  i  said  this,  but  all  the  performances  thus  far  have  been  SUBPAR.  i  really  think  you  need  to  get  up  there  and  show  everyone  how  it's  done.”

after  a  rough  couple  of  weeks,  theodora  found  herself  trying  to  adjust  back  to  her  normal  life.  the  bonfire  seemed  like  a  good  place  to  start,  but  part  of  it  felt  like  too  much  at  once.  she's  grateful  the  person  standing  closest  to  her  is  a  stranger  (  or,  as  much  of  a  stranger  as  the  doctor  who  inspected  your  ferret  bite  could  be  ).  “have  you  ever  skipped  a  rock  before  ?  i've  always  wanted  to,  but  it  seems  really  hard.”

major  finds  himself  leaning  in,  completely  enthralled  by  the  words  coming  out  of  the  other's  mouth.  “what  happened  next  ?!”

major  stands  along  the  shoreline,  looking  out  at  the  water  in  front  of  him.  he's  never  taken  his  proximity  to  the  water  for  granted,  and  sometimes  had  to  remind  himself  HOW  LUCKY  he  was.  he  turns  to  the  nearest  body  before  asking  “do  you  think  it's  too  cold  to  go  in  ?  or  do  you  think  it'll  be  warm  ?”

“i'm  trying  to  go  for  a  record…  most  spoonfuls  eaten  the  fastest  without  getting  brain  freeze.  are  you  putting  your  money  on  me  or  the  ice  cream  ?  BE  HONEST.”

major  raises  his  arm  in  an  attempt  to  flag  julian  down,  hoping  he's  actually  seen  through  the  crowd.  he's  cursing  to  himself,  wishing  they  were  actually  triplets  so  he  could  use  triplet  telepathy  (  which  is  a  very  real  thing,  he's  convinced  )  to  get  his  attention.  it  seems  he  doesn't  need  it  as  julian  heads  his  direction.  he  glances  behind  him,  only  to  realize  he's  lost  kendrick.  “man,  WHERE  THE  FUCK  IS  KENNY  ?”

just  hearing  his  voice  was  enough  to  bring  a  smile  to  her  face.  life  without  milo  had  been…  different.  their  friendship  over  the  years  had  taken  many  pauses,  but  they  were  always  natural.  and  it  doesn't  take  long  for  her  to  attempt  to  hold  back  a  laugh,  because  (  as  much  as  she'd  hate  to  admit  it  )  he's  acting  very  much  like  THEODORA.  she  had  always  been  the  more  dramatic  of  the  two.  she  scoots  over,  patting  the  rock  as  an  invitation.  “COLD  AS  STEEL  ?  well,  i  wouldn't  say  that.  nobody  with  a  heart  of  steel  would  deliver  a  pie  to  my  door  past  midnight."  she'd  never  gotten  confirmation  that  he  had  dropped  the  pie  off,  but  it  was  a  pretty  safe  bet.  "maybe  it's  just  a  bit  chilly  ?

wouldn’t  miss  the  bonfire  ….  right  .  “  yeah  well  ,  i’m  solely  here  for  business  .  “  milo  clarifies  .  he  fakes  a  smile  ,  eyes  reverting  back  to  the  ground  .  “  mind  if  i  join  you  for  a  bit  ?  “  maybe  he’s  being  too  brash  .  a  bit  wishy-washy  .  too  much  to  handle  .  “  don’t  worry  ,  i  won’t  hit  on  you  .  this  heart  ?  cold  as  steel  .  “  yet  as  he  says  it  ,  he  aches  with  a  sort  of  emptiness  that  is  only  brought  by  his  own  self-destruction  and  isolation  .  “  or  i  can  just  fuck  off  and  we  forget  this  ever  happened  .  “

“okay,  maybe  agreeing  to  paint  each  other  was  a  BAD  IDEA,”  theodora  admits  between  giggles,  looking  at  the  canvas  in  front  of  her.  “i  don't  want  you  to  be  offended  because,  my  god,  my  portrait  of  you  is  awful.”
