- “Wow wow wow, stop! Why are you pointing at me with the gun? Did I do something wrong to hurt you or anyone? Or did my ethnicity affect your judgment?”

Through this image, we can see police brutality. We can see that three cops are pointing towards a black man which is unarmed. This is enough to say that this is a clear demonstration of police brutality against black people.

Who do you call when cops murder? What do you do when fareness is unfare? Why people that are supposed to protect you are the ones that cause more harm?

In this image, we can see that there are 2 men and they are holding a board that says how many people were killed by a police officer. Just in the board, we can see 30 people who’ve been victims of police brutality, but they are a lot more that are being killed daily by the police, just because of their skin color.

233 lives that were taken in just 1 year
Colin Kapaernick was an NFL player who during the United States’ national anthem decided to kneel, in a form of protest about police brutality. Colin was protesting about racism and the police brutality. Later, the player was unemployed and still he hasn’t found a job. One year after this occured, 223 African-Americans were killed by the police. A player who seeked for justice and equality was left unemployed and still hasn’t found a job.

This cartoon represents the fear black people have when executing an action because police will create stereotypes against them. For example, in this cartoon, the man is looking for a kleenex in his pocket, but maybe a police officer near him will think the man is reaching out for a gun due to the fact that he is black.

In this image, we can see a lot of cops hitting a black person, this is a clear demonstration of police brutality against African-American people because we can see that 3 cops are hitting a man while the other 2 cops are just watching without doing anything about it. We don't quite know the reasons for why he did it, but we do know that he was unarmed which is unfair.

Through this illustration, we see how unfair the justice can be and how judges most of the time look for reasons to justify the murder of black people.

Our inspiration
Our inspiration was a campaign called #BlackLivesMatter that is a website for the same purpose our Tumblr account has. But our real inspiration is a book called The Hate U Give written by Angie Thomas. This book is about a sixteen-year-old girl named Starr Carter, who witnesses police brutality when police officer Brian Cruise shoots her best friend Khalil, who is a black unarmed teen. So, the story is really about how Starr is surrounded by racism in the environment she lives in, even her best friend Hailey is racist with her. In the end, Starr speaks up and is not afraid of cops anymore. It was a really interesting book which we enjoyed reading because it is about a reality black people face every day in the United States of America.

Shooting of Walter Scott
Tumblr media
Walter Scott was a victim of police brutality. On April 4th, 2015, he was killed by a white cop in South Carolina. Fortunately, in December of 2017, he was sentenced to 20 years in jail. We can relate this to the book The Hate U Give because Khalil which was Starr’s best friend was killed by a policeman unfairly, and he wasn't even armed just like Walter Scott. This book may seem like fiction but this is a reality, a lot of people are killed on a daily basis by cops, in an unfair way. This case is some way different to Khalil´s story because the police officer that shot Khalil was declared as innocent.

People who've gained this type of experience know the real possibility of a cop losing his temper, how hard we have to guard against it, and how much it would erode the trust we strive for between police and the people they serve.
