Pairing: William H Bonney (Billy the Kid) x fem!reader
Summary: You’re a singer at the town saloon where Jesse and his gang spend a fair amount of their nights. Over the past few weeks you’ve grown fond of their new addition, famous outlaw Billy. He had also grown fond (and protective) of you.
Warnings: Mentions of weapons, attempted assault, violence, alcohol, swearing, blood, gambling, etc.
Other: No smut, protective Billy ;) New to writing on here, new to writing one-shots, AND new to writing for Billy so bare with me!
OUTLAW {William H Bonney}
As darkness enveloped the town, the saloon grew more rowdy by the minute. Your fingers danced across the strings of your guitar as you sang, your voice spilling out across the crowd. As you tap and sway to the music, you give the crowd your bright smiles and playful winks, but you can’t help but falter at the sight of the empty table on the far side of the saloon.
Jesse’s gang were regulars at the saloon. Jesse had introduced himself one night after you finished singing and every night from then on when you saw those boys you made it a habit to go and sit with them. Of course, sometimes they were caught up with work, you knew not to ask about that. It never bothered you, at least until Billy came along. The blue-eyed outlaw had caught your attention the second you laid eyes on him. Dark, messy hair hidden beneath his hat, fingers always fiddling with the holster of his gun, every small detail stood out to you.
Tonight however, the boys were nowhere to be found. Sometimes they’d come a little late, sometimes not at all, but you felt Billy’s absence wash over you like a cold chill. You tried to immerse yourself in the music as you normally do, but it felt as if you’d forgotten where to look to when Billy’s chair was empty.
You discard the thought, preparing to launch straight into the next song when a man stumbles to the stage, drink held loosely in his hand. He mumbles something to a man who is at the edge of the stage before reaching out to grab your ankle. You jump in suprise, tugging your leg away only to feel his grip tighten, “C’mon girl.”
You begin to feel panic rise. You’d had drunk men do these kinds of things before, but usually one tug was enough to snap them out of their crazed thoughts. This man, however, was persistant, “I’ll show you a good time.”
He began to try and clamber onto the stage, other hand grasping the white frills of your dress when suddenly he is yanked backwards, jolting you forward. You catch yourself, looking down to the crowd to see that all too familiar hat. A grunt comes from Billy and you quickly slip off the stage as you realise what is happening.
Billy, who has suffered a nasty punch to the mouth and now has a split and bloody lip lands punch after punch across the man’s face. Grunts of pain come from the man as he attempts to fight back, only to be met with another loud punch to the nose, followed by a horrible crack. He cries out, but Billy is relentless. Blood meets his bruising knuckles. Your hand is clasped over your face in horror. Jesse quickly cuts through the onlookers, dragging Billy away as he mumbles something in his friend’s ear.
“Don’t you ever touch her again, you hear me?” Billy shouts, spitting the accumulating blood from his mouth towards the man as he is helped to his feet by two others. Finally, Billy looks to you. He wipes his mouth, shoving Jesse off and making his way to you. His eyes are still wild, his hands red and raw. But, somehow, you don’t feel afraid of him.
“‘m sorry, I know I took that a bit far but I just— seeing any man act that way toward you just—“
You lean up, pressing a gentle kiss to his split lip. His hands grip your hips and your arms find their way around his neck. You feel your body arching to him. You can taste a mix of whiskey and the metallic taste of blood. Slowly, you break away, looking up to meet his eyes with a smile and blushed cheeks, “C’mon, you need cleaning up.”
