Chinchilla Intelligence
As I was wrapping Minccino up in his burrito to give him medicine today, something interesting happened. I usually gently hold his neck in place so he can’t back away from the syringe. He really didn’t want me to hold his neck today though, he wiggled it free. And as I was placing the syringe into the corner of his mouth, he turned his head and stuck his tongue out. He moved his head TO THE SYRINGE ON HIS OWN and put his tongue out and began taking the medicine by himself. Now, this medicine is not flavored and he hates it. But it’s almost like he knew he had to do it and he was telling me “hey, human, don’t shove that down my throat, let me lick it up” and he proceeded to lick up the medicine at his own pace, versus me usually just gently pushing it into the back of his mouth. I was honestly amazed he wasn’t fighting me at all and just doing it by himself! Then when I got up to put him back he jumped out of my arms and escaped. I got up to go catch him and he ended up in my bedroom. He knew he was in trouble so he stopped in his tracks and stood up straight. I put my hands out and he came right to me! Usually he will run around for as long as he can but this time he knew it was time to go back. He’s such a good boy. I gave him a big treat :)
