Post41— reflective essay

This project has been basically completed. As a Reflective Essay, I will summarize this project and discuss what I have learned and how I will continue to develop myself in my future career. Therefore, I believe this article will be very meaningful for my future work and study. In this project, I created an animation story about the LGBT community. During the creation process, I watched many excellent animation works, tried new production methods and studied some literature about animation. These learning processes benefited me a lot. In particular, when watching excellent animation works, I have been greatly improved in terms of plot creation, artistic style and production skills. In terms of plot, I have tried bold ideas and used sexual suggestive design to avoid showing too many animation segments unsuitable for minors. This design idea not only expresses my idea but also solves the problem that may cause bad influence. Art style is also an aspect worthy of discussion. In this animation, I try to integrate different art styles, and how to integrate these different art styles into a whole is the focus of my study. I use different transitions and switch between the real world and the virtual world in the plot to combine these different art styles. While watching these excellent films, I feel that there is still a big gap between my animation and these excellent works, and I still have a lot to improve myself. When formulating the theme, I took into consideration the potential audience of this animation. I believe that the main audience of this animation should be ordinary people. Because the real connotation of this animation is to reduce the discrimination against LGBT people in Chinese society, I will upload the video to Chinese video websites, which will enable more people to watch this animation. It will also allow more people to reduce discrimination against the LGBT community. This animation project will also have some influence on my future work. This project makes me more familiar with the production process of animation projects, which enables me to quickly integrate into the new work. Moreover, this project also makes me understand a lot of interesting art schools, and I may face various artistic styles in the future work. The discussion with classmates is also a very important part of this project. In the future work, I will participate in the design and production of some multi-person projects, and the cooperation and communication with colleagues is not an important part. In this project, I discussed with classmates about their respective projects and put forward many suggestions. All in all, I have learned a lot of valuable professional knowledge from this project, and I have made some plans for my future industry, and I also realize that I still have a lot of room for improvement. Post40—methodology

In this project, I learned a lot of knowledge about the animation industry. Reasonable research methods can not only improve the research efficiency but also enable me to get more valuable materials. In this blog I will explain how I researched and conceived my projects, as well as how I found inspiration and improved my animation skills during the production process. This article will be divided into three parts to discuss what I just mentioned. When I decided that the theme of this short animation is about the LGBT community, I began to think about what kind of story plot I would create. Excellent animation plots cannot be born out of thin air, so I decided to search a large number of excellent animated films with the same theme, learn from them and refer to how these animated films design animation. For example, I watched a collection of short animations called "love,Death and Robot" and these well-made animated shorts gave me an almost perfect reference in terms of plot, art style and voice acting. However, if only watching excellent animations is still not enough to provide me with enough inspiration, I decided to collect more relevant information to improve my idea. For example, I followed some LGBT communities on social media, and I completed the character design by observing their photos posted on social media. This method allows me to better understand this group and feel their ideas, which is of great help to the creation of animation. Because I created this short animation to appeal to Chinese society to reduce discrimination against LGBT people, it is essential to understand their real thoughts and reality. The detailed design of the animation is also a very important part. In addition to watching excellent animation works, I also watched a lot of films on LGBT themes when writing the script. For example, the Hong Kong film "Happy Together" is a very good film. These are the main ways I get inspired. In terms of making skills, I think Internet search is a very practical and convenient method. For example, when I need to use a drawing software that I have never used before, I will search for video tutorials on YouTube, which is the fastest way to learn about these software. In terms of theoretical learning, Google Scholar will be a good choice. Finally, it is also a good idea to share your ideas with classmates because you study the same major and have your own unique ideas. Your classmates may give you some very good suggestions, which will be of great help to the research of the project. All in all, these excellent films and television works can provide you with a variety of inspiration, and these films and television works have a variety of artistic styles, such as minimalism, surrealism and abstract, which has a good effect on you to understand your own different artistic styles. This project is for me to learn many excellent works and understand my shortcomings in animation design through classmates' discussion. "CoCo" is a feature-length animated film produced by Pixar Animation Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Pictures about a young boy who accidentally travels to the world of the undead and needs to enlist the help of his late musician grandfather to return him to the real world. The scene design in this film is very attractive to me. In the scene, the design team draws on a large number of Mexican architectural styles, such as the house full of people built by cranes. A large number of skull patterns are also used in the buildings to express that this is the place of death. And the white-whitewashed walls and dusty streets of the real world contrast with the night and bright lights of the Land of the dead. The production team also visited the Day of the Dead in Mexico, and the integration of these Mexican cultural elements gave the film a richer and more realistic scene, but also let the audience feel the level of history from these cultural elements and architectural details. I would like to discuss the scene design of "CoCo" in this blog. As mentioned before, the background and prototype of this film are from Mexico, which has rich culture and profound history. In my previous Blog, I discussed how AI technology makes animation works and some influences of AI on animation works. Today, I will discuss the role of AI technology in narrative. According to Zhang's article, the author uses artificial intelligence to create stories and realizes the scene simulation of animation with the visualization of UnrealITM game engine. In the virtual scene, researchers observe the behavior and real-time interaction of virtual characters. This technology is conducive to the development of games and animations. In the animation, artificial intelligence will independently generate the interaction between characters and the plot according to some basic Settings of users, which will provide great help for animators, especially in the creation stage, provide inspiration for animators, and shorten the production cycle. This technology allows what would otherwise be a very time-consuming job to be done in a very short time. The emergence of artificial intelligence technology has a significant impact on the production of animation, AI is applied to the production of two-dimensional animation, developers use language module, retrieval module and animation generation module to produce animation. Compared with the traditional animation production method, AI has the characteristics of more efficient, lower cost and better quality. Users only need to input relevant teaching content and desired animation style, and AI will generate relevant animation content. These animation works may not be excellent and are more like factory assembly line products. However, for animation works for teaching purposes, artistry is not the priority element, and simple and easy to understand is more beneficial for students to understand knowledge. This type of advertising films is very popular in the market and some well-known clothing brands often cooperate with animation artists. In this kind of film, animators should combine their artistic style with product characteristics. Such commercials are very beneficial to both artists and product companies. On the one hand, artists take advantage of this opportunity to publicize their works and gain fame and considerable income; on the other hand, product companies can enhance the value of products and build a better brand image. Among these animated advertisements, I prefer to cooperate with clothing companies, such as Dior, Adidas and Nike. Chengxu Jang is an animator from Taiwan, China. He graduated in animation from the Royal College of Art in the United Kingdom and now lives in Germany. He is an excellent independent animation artist with many awards for his work. The advertising short film Recode Running, which he cooperated with Adidas, is a good example. As a brand publicity material, this animation short film combines real shooting with animation. In the real shooting part, the director shot a large number of running scenes, which showed the effect of Adidas sports products in different scenes. In the animation part, the animator uses a very two-dimensional animation style, and these animation pictures have a very strong individualistic style, which makes the two-dimensional animation part of the advertisement short film very attractive to the audience. This short film presents many abstract artistic elements, which is also the reason why it is very attractive to me. These abstract artistic styles are not common in commercial promotional films, because abstract styles are not very popular in the commercial market. However, this promotional film combines this artistic style with real pictures well, which makes this promotional film no longer mediocre and the bright and bold colors also make the audience's eyes shine. This attracts the audience's attention so that they pay more attention to the content of the advertisement and achieve the purpose of promoting the product. Moreover, my animation works also contain many similar artistic styles. This commercial film provides a good example for my future creation and work direction. We should not be limited to traditional animation works. With the continuous development of technology today, cross-border cooperation has become the mainstream. After a long period of development, 2D animation has changed from TV broadcast to network projection, which provides a better way for excellent animation works to spread, and a lot of animation studios have emerged. As a student studying 2D animation, joining an independent animation studio is also one of my ideal jobs, and animators will have the opportunity to participate in the production of top animation works. For example, "Love, Death & Robots" is an independent adult animation series produced by animation studios in different countries. These series contain a variety of artistic styles and the animation quality is very good. These art studios perfectly integrate their own artistic styles into these animation works, and the plots of each episode of animated short films are very wonderful. Some of the scripts are adapted from famous novels and biographies, and these plots have been given new definitions after being adapted. This has helped artists to develop their own areas of expertise and audiences have become more receptive to different arts. The art style of my animation projects is very two-dimensional and has some dark humor in it, for example one of the animation Histories has that kind of art style as well, called Alternate Histories, Directed and designed by "Victor Maldonado & Alfredo Torres," this animated short is an application called the Multiverse to simulate the impact of different events on human history. The main content of this animated short film tells about what would happen to the world if Hitler died early, such as being stabbed to death after arguing with a child, being hit by a passing carriage, being hit by a meteorite, etc. These different ways of death also triggered different historical trends, such as the Soviet Union winning the Cold War and becoming the first country to land on the moon. The final animation gives six different endings, which are all very creative and humorous. This kind of plot setting with an air of history creates infinite possibilities for the direction of the plot, and animators can apply their own creative ideas to the animation. For the audience, every time the trend of history changes, they will expect what the result will be this time, which always attracts the audience's attention to the animation, and it can be said that this animation is very successful. At the end of the animation, the author provides more imagination space for the audience, one of which is how the world would change if the assassination of US President Lincoln had a different result. Such an ending not only shows the infinite possible animation theme but also allows the audience to have more associations. In terms of painting style, this short animation adopts a two-dimensional animation style, which is also my favorite and best at. As a student majoring in animation, I often think about what kind of narrative plot is very attractive to the audience. This animation short film provides me with a very good example and has a lot of influence on my animation creation.
