My experiments with emotion didn't end with the rabbit. In a drawing/painting course I conducted my own study using a variety of reference images and then adapting plush toys and my own ancient teddy bear to create a montage of Despair.
A good example of technique, if not the best execution.

CLASS OF 2013, REPRESENT!
10 Tumblr webcomics you should be following
2) Maya Kern
If college theses were graded according to Tumblr notes, Maya Kern would have received an A+. Kern’s 23-page thesis for the Minneapolis College of Art and Design (MCAD) is a Little Red Riding Hood-inspired comic series called redden. So far Kern has posted more than 13 pages from the series on Tumblr, where they have collected hundreds of notes each. Like Kern’s other webcomics, redden features a strong female lead character set for adventure in a world of unknown obstacles.

Despair- An emotive study
I started with a few poses to learn the character, but felt they just weren't reading right.
So I went on a hunt for references of real human emotion and attempted to translate that into my rabbit character.
Some turned out better than others...

Some practice with an experimental digital imaging program called Sketchbook Pro.
-A wandering, heartstitched teddy bear
-Puss character work (expect to see a LOT more of him!)
It was an interesting experience, but probably more intuitive for touch devices.
Or maybe I'm just so used to PS.

Models Wanted! ~Minicomic (5 pages)
Teddy Marcinson is an out of work male model. Desperate for money, he takes a newspaper ad for a position in a rather... shady neighborhood.
He didn't know what he was expecting... But it sure as heck wasn't this.

This is my business card, front and back. Adorable, right? Well, it was meant to be a friendly example of duality of emotion, contrast of personality and integration into character design, which is a big theme in my work.
