71. Ferus Olin / Roan Lands

My Top 100 Ships of All Time:

Ships that still hit me as hard as the first time, to whom I will always come back, even decades later, because their interaction actually is one big reason for me to relive the media they are in. Those are the ones on this list. It was a tough, because I know pretty much everything, thank you very much, so only a 100? And what about those I forgot to put on this list, or I left off on purpose because I didn’t have pictures or because they didn’t quite make it into the first 100? Well it’s too late for doubts once you worked you way up through the first quarter of your Top 100. So let’s plunge into the rest of them instead.

Yeah, yeah, I know how I can I put this ship on this list? Well how could I not? (It's my list after all, remember?) So most people won't know but Ferus and Roan were one of the first queer Couples in "Star Wars". Karen Traviss' married same sex Mando-Couple might have come first and got more time in the spot light because they were married, while Ferus and Roan starred in a Young Adult Series and only ever were best friend and business partners some might claim, but those people have not been paying attention while reading the books nor have they ever understand Ferus as a character. Even Vader knew, he literally said he was going to kill Roan so Ferus would feel would he felt when he (or rather Anakin) lost Padmé. If even one of the dumber persons in the Star Wars-Universe got it (he was still more Anakin than Vader back then), it must have been very obvious. (The secret hand-shake did not help). It was obvious to me at least. And Alex Wheeler when he wrote "Rebel Force". And finally Jude Watson, who invented Ferus and wrote "The Last of the Jedi" confirmed than as being married on Twitter, so it is Canon after all. I always thought that Vader did let a perfect oppertunity slip through his fingers when he learned about Roan's existence by the way, because honestly, why kill Roan if he could use him to pratically own Ferus? He could have forced his old frenemy to become an inquisitor or an ally against the Emperor. Just saying. In any case, Ferus' and Roan's love was great and ended in tragedy. Of course. It's was the Expanded Star Wars Universe after all, the era between Episode III and IV on the top of this and Jude Watson's third YA Series, where she was going darker than ever before on purpose (the series was after all called "The Last of the Jedi"). Ferus never really recovered fom loosing Roan and mourned him for the rest of his life. And was reunited with him in death. Of course all of this tragic and beautiful stuff got erased from Canon when Disney came and destroyed everything, but how cares about "Star Wars" beyond "Andor" anymore nowadays anyways? Maybe we should all just go back to the Old Expanded Universe where even a gay former Jedi could find love for a time before he would get involved into the life of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker again and live to regret it.

"Ferus gasped, choking on the blood that bubbled in his throat. His lips formed the name he hadn't spoken aloud in years. Soft fingers brushed his forehead. "Did you really think I would leave you here alone?" You left me alone for all those years, Ferus wanted to say. I always hoped you were waiting for me. I always hoped I would see you again. Roan Lands, dead for nearly two decades, gazed down at him, his eyes full of warmth and humor. Roan, who had found Ferus after he'd fled the Jedi Temple, and taught him what it meant to truly live. Roan, who'd been Ferus's partner and friend for the best years of his life. Roan, whom he thought he'd lost forever. Ferus's fear was gone, replaced by a deep, calming peace. He had done what he could for the people he loved. He had fulfilled the mission Obi-Wan had set out for him, protected Anakin's child until she was strong enough to protect herself. He had fought as best he knew how, for as long as he could. And now Roan was here, and Ferus was ready to go. "I'll stay with you," Roan said, squeezing his hand. "For as long as you need me." Ferus let his eyes drift shut. His world narrowed to the sound of Roan's voice, and the warmth of Roan's hand. "You are not alone," he heard Roan say. And then he heard nothing at all."

The Silly AU - Ferus Olin

As a continuation of the Mister Goran's Neighborhood post, @artemisdesari-blog had discussed who would replace Anakin as Obi-Wan's on-screen former padawan. Anakin was such a terrible actor that Myles had no choice but to cast someone else in the role.

Artemis: "Timon tries to get the padawan role"

Me: "That's what I was thinking! Timon would be so smug if he got the role"

Artemis: "Obi-Wan refuses to let him take it. It wouldn't be good for his shadow work"

Me: "Ah that's true. Who would her padawan be? Honestly, I feel like Quinlan would try out for the padawan role as well just to aggravate everyone. Even though he's older than Obi-Wan."

Artemis: "Quinlan would try just to annoy her, but Obi would probably ask Siri if she could borrow Ferus instead. He's about Anakin’s age and it would subtly annoy Anakin more than if Timon did the job"
