In hindsight I should've said "I'm from India" not "I'm Indian". 13 yo me didn't know better ig ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
About 4 years ago I met this girl in a Brookhaven (Roblox) RP. While making smalltalk I casually mentioned I'm Indian. To which she replied by saying she was black. I was taken aback because she just mentioned her race out of nowhere.
This weekend I realised maybe she actually thought I'm not Indian as in "person from India" but, get this, Indian as in "Native American"!! That's probably why she mentioned her race...
Which is a very roundabout case of US defaultism sure because there's like an entire country out there called India where Indians live.
Neither of us knew what the other was talking about, pretty confusing. So confusing that it took me FOUR years to realise. 😭😭
