When I’m happy but then I remember that Noah Czerny was more when he was alive

I'm rereading the Raven cycle and as someone who moved to another country far away from what is supposed to be my home, the themes of home really do hit hard.

Gansey, searching for a place to call home ever since he was a child, only to realize it might be people instead,

Blue, having a safe space to return to and feeling like she belongs while simultaneously missing something crucial she can't name,

Adam, escaping his abusive father, his home that never felt like one, to carve his own space in the world where he truly feels like he is a person and

Ronan, having had such a beautiful childhood home for it only to be taken away from him but he held onto the concept of home he built in his head and in the end it paid off because he got it back and he gained a new home along the way amongst his friends.

They all redefine their notion of home throughout the series and I think they are able to (re)claim places as their homes because they found homes in each other that comforted them when their spaces couldn't.

i love adam parrish because he's relatable as a character whose abuse has pushed him to naively acknowledge his role in the world. as someone who just wanted to get away of my home, daydreaming of having a white picket fence and car and stability, you learn to lick from your own knife. you start believing that perhaps this abuse should be worth it as long as it has meaning; that it was his fuel to get out of his hell. but he can't deny that he mostly projects this frustration towards Gansey. despite furiously asserting that the world does not revolve around Gansey, he in fact contradicts it by centering his dreams on stuff Gansey has; fame, opulence, security. deep down, in his young eyes, he could not dignify gansey by admitting that he wants to be him. and that naive part of him thinks that by doing everything on his own, he has managed to decenter Gansey from his fantasies. but that's not how it works. i love adam so much hes so this is me trying coded. hes imperfect and there's so much nuance to who he is. (IM 300 PAGES INTO BOOK 2 DONT SPOIL ME THIS IS JUST AN OBSERVATION)

probably the best parallel between bluesey and pynch is that for Blue and Adam, this story is Pride & Prejudice level rivals-to-lovers - each of them going “fuck, him? really? him??” every step of the way - whereas Gansey and Ronan were both immediately and irrevocably in love
