I'm seeing a lot of talk from disabled people fearing being put into concentration camps and at the same time, I'm seeing a lot of talk of people calling those fears dramatic.

I was one of the people back in July raising alarm bells over RFK Jr wanting to put neurodivergent and disabled people into camps but I realized something a while back and it's important to understand.

They don't need to put us into camps.

All they have to do is take away healthcare and assistance access as well as the laws that give us civil rights. That's enough to destroy disabled lives and kill us.

They're already doing that. The medicaid cuts. The section 504 lawsuit. The deia attacks. The make America health again EO. The discussion of slow rolling social security and social security office cuts. The healthcare research cuts. The food aid program cuts.

They don't need to round us up. Removing the safeguards that allow us to live and function does that job a lot easier and cheaper.

The same way they do it with other subjects, they're softening up people to it by musk calling people using assistance parasites, trump blaming disabled folks for the DC plane crash, trump saying his disabled nephew didn't deserve to live, the make America healthy again EO demonizing chronic illness and neurodivergency. And so on and on.

I'm not saying this to scare people. Someone on a disability group tonight said "if they were going to do it, there would be warning signs." The warnings are already happening! Alarms should be going off in your head. We are in it. So I'm saying this so people are aware of it. So that they are paying attention to it because we all need to fight like hell against it.

It was read by a popular YouTuber, and I was much younger person then, if you look up sdv fanfic on YouTube you'll probably find it. Just know it was like almost 5 years ago so I was a much different person then but the impact is still there

I don't hate Harvey, because his fans have attacked me in the past for my use of the straight man trope Harvey and my OC they saw it as hate content and attacked me so I deleted their comments and just blocked them so like my beef with Harvey more or less stems off his fans who attacked me for just making silly comics and after that my use of the straight man trope was sometimes made into variety from Lucy being the annoying one to Lucy kinda needing him to drive her places but he listens to country music so she's suffering through it ( although my first sdv comic implied she could drive, but that was just so Lucy could offer an egg in this trying time, so Lucy not being able to drive is in fact a retcon but like that doesn't matter)

Even then I still do not hate Harvey, he is in fact a guy who exists in my mind tbh Lucy beef with Harvey is more of an irl coping mechanism so I can force myself to draw him more because In the past I tend to purposely draw my unfavored characters terribly so forcing myself to draw Harvey but also making his character completely accurate to the original game is more of me trying to work through my negative association of the character so I can one day actually see him positively really instead of being nervous and freezing up every time I see him simply walking in game

I have no personal dislike for any character besides Hailey ( because I've met way too many of her to like her plus the unfair comparison to Shane which is actually my favorite character and how if those roles were swapped people would still hate Shane and love Hailey which is unfair to Shane imo because God forbid men openly express their feelings instead physically or verbally abusing people or abusing substances) Shane is one of the few accurate depression representations I've seen in media so I'm gonna stand up for him no matter what

I probably should've kept my trauma to myself and I apologize for trauma dumping in public, but my personal beef stems from literal fanfiction and I'm working through it with humor now instead of verbal aggression so I'm better now than I once was about him like 3 years ago I was a teenager when I started playing this game

When I say I have beef with Harvey it's played up for laughs instead of genuine dislike now because it's such a weird character to have beef with tbh.

But the fanfic was read by a YouTuber so you can probably find it by looking up sdv fanfiction on YouTube that's where I saw it personally Bec it popped up in my reccomended then I stopped watching sdv YouTube soon after because many sdv YouTubers were really unfair about my favorite characters tbh which kinda turned me off to the entire stardew valley side of YouTube

Because Shane is still Shane, he's a mood, tbh if some stranger walked up to you and talked to you casually you would also tell them " bitch idk you" and than go on with your day Shane would still feel like a failure in a way because he probably only got the job to raise jas and hed still be unhappy with his job

Harvey now just has an alcohol addiction, same guy with a fear of heights but instead of deciding to be a docter he just gets an unhealthy coping mechanism with the anxiety of everyday life but he's just chill and openly positive

I like Shane because he's an absolute mood, I don't like him because he's an alcoholic axel I like him because he's an absolute mood and hella relatable

I don't relate to being an alcoholic I relate to being depressed and feeling hopeless and feeling like I have to live up to my perception of what everyone expects of me than feeling like a failure because I didn't live up to those imaginary expectations because nobody was expecting anything from me in the first place

Shane is that guy, that's what Shane would be if he was the doctor, he would've went to college to get a degree to get a job hes gonna hatewhile Marnie had temporary custody and then goes back to pelican town and takes care of jas again

I write too much slander about Harvey to know barely anything will change about him, he's the drunk that isnt openly mean or anything, hes just pretending it's normal to be an alcoholic or something, but instead of beer he'd be the wine aunt of this town because if they still like the same things as they do hed be a wine aunt but male

And Shane if he was a doctor would absa-fuckin-loutey eat food that's awful for you whilst preaching healthy eating because that's just his job.

Im overanalyzing this and overthinking it probably more than the artist did but I do know these two characters on different degrees of liking of the spectrum

I don't hate Harvey because he's a doctor, or anxious or anything really , just bad first impressions have tainted my perception of him and I haven't been able to recover since that one horrifying fanfic about him killing all the marriage candidates than threatening to kill the farmer if you didn't want him, I know he's nothing like that but that was my first impression of the guy, I still portray him accurately not to upset the Harvey stans so i don't get death threats but also because it would make my character look like an unreliable narrator even though the comic is in the third person so there is no narrator in general, I just find the straight man trope hilarious I'm sorry. Bat shit insane person with some weird ideas and a completely average normal person interacting is the absolute funniest shit to me.

But this way seems interesting, but if the characters personalities are the same it doesn't affect which one I would choose overall

Shane is still shane

And Harvey is still harvey

Their job title being and clothing swapped doesn't really affect how I feel about the characters personalities

If Shane is still depressed, and the cutscenes were still a similar story, of Shane overcoming depression and realizing it's okay to rely on people, I would've always loved Shane as a character

If Harvey's plot is overall the same plus an alcohol issue, I would still feel the same way, except my comic ideas would be way funnier tbh because drunk people are fucking hilarious. Imagine him being drunk and Lucy is the mature one for once, that would be so fucking funny to have the roles reversed just Lucy not putting up with his bullshit and Harvey being way too relaxed still

Like the dynamic would be the same, Lucy not putting up with him and being antagonistic but being sensible at the same time

Meanwhile Harvey is way too calm around her and puts up with her angry attitude and horrible outlook on life but he's immature around her because he's constantly drunk

Roles reversed but the same personality would be a very interesting character study tbh

And Lucy would of course still be in love with Shane

But the question is who would've failed to save her at the flood? Harvey

Lucy got swept up in that flood because she saved jas, Shanes goddaughter, and Harvey has no children or Godchildren or nieces or whatever, so it would still be Harvey who can't save her, but because he's not mentally aware of what's happening and in this case Lucy would absolutely justified in her anger instead of just making assumptions that he let her die because it was malicious because in the cannon of the comic, he was panicking and didn't know what to do so he assumed getting help would be easier but pulling her out by her arms would've been the best here because of the lack of time and the speed of the river but based on water safety and flood stuff, Harvey would believe getting help would be a better solution because he can't swin

But Lucy sees it as malicious because she needed help and the person she trusted didn't save her

But in this au Like her anger would be justified if Harvey was an alcoholic because his issue of his caused her to lose her first life of 9 and him being an Alcoholic is a danger to other people's lives but Harvey does not know she died he just thinks she got lucky with surviving being underwater for an unknown period of time

But this adds to how my au would work because in this au Lucy feels like if she tells him about the 9 lives that he would brush it off because "he only had one you have 7 to spare" which if he did say that she would probably beat the shit outta him for ignoring the fact that his actions could've caused permanent death if she didn't have 9 lives to spare than just leaves him angrily to just put up with his own issues that he's on his own because she feels she can't save him after that

Harvey sees the clinic for the cat scratches and Harvey tells Shane everything which leads to Shane finding out and realizing yeah Harveys alcohol addiction is in fact dangerous to other people now instead of just himself, so he probably puts him into some hospital for short term so he can get Harvey to stop drinking

But Y'know in cannon Lucy's probably never gonna talk to Harvey again and just live her life without him permanently because brushing off getting somebody killed because you were too drunk to get help isn't exactly something you can move past without lasting damage to a relationship, especially if that death was quite literally your own
