"What's that supposed to mean?"

“I wasn’t really talking about your height. You simply act small.”

"Leo, huh? I like it," Caleb said, grinning at the other. "Reminds me of a lion! My mom says my name means devotion and faith, or something like that. Not as cool as yours, but it's still something." He patted the cat once more on the head before retracting his hand. "Say, do you think the cat is a homeless, then, since it's out here all alone?"

“N-No, I just found him…” He murmured, slightly more nervous now that the stranger was closer to him. The cat seemed to like him well enough though so he could not have been all that bad. Animals were usually a pretty good judge of character. If the other was a bad person, the cat would want nothing to do with him. “My name is Leo. Aoi Leo—”

"I'm not that short!! How does height have anything to do with being a man?!"

“Don’t make me laugh. You’re to small to be a man.”

"Man. I'm a man."

“I didn’t think age changed your gender.”

Caleb wasn't sure but he could feel something evil behind him, lurking around, perhaps in a corner. The feeling made him made him freeze in place, cold sweat running down his face. Slowly, the ginger turned around, his eyes landing on a spider dangling in front of him.

"!!!" Mouth open in a silent scream.

Rather than be deterred by the figure with cold eyes, Caleb let out a small shriek of joy before shuffling closer to the stranger, carefully holding out his hand as to not frighten the small animal. "Hi," Caleb said to the male while petting the cat behind the ears. "My name's Caleb. What's yours?"

Rather than verbally respond, Leo slowly turned his head around to stare at the stranger. His eyes were cold— Like those of the worst serial killer. Yet, Leo was no such thing. Sure on the outside he appeared to be rather frightening, but on the inside, he was a complete and total sweetheart. Slowly, Leo turned completely around and silently held the cat out to the other; for him to pet the cat of course. It was not a verbal ‘yes’, but it was close enough.

"Hey! I'm not a boy! Seventeen is over the age of consent!"

“That’s none of your concern, boy.” Sacrifices mainly.

"So... then what do you do if it's not for fun?"

“I suppose, they stay out of the way. I don’t like having to deal with animals for fun.”

Oh. My. God. Caleb couldn't believe his eyes. Right in front of him, a few feet away, was a black cat! This was his first time seeing a cat with fur so black up close. They always managed to run away before he could pet them. Caleb tiptoed carefully up to the cat, where his eyes slid towards the figure holding it. "Um, excuse me," he said, hands behind his back. "Is that your cat, mister? It's a pretty black cat. Could I... uh, pet it?" Please, please say yes.

Leo had never been a people person— They always seemed to panic and become scared whenever they gazed upon him. It made him feel like a freak. An outsider. So rather than try to find company in other humans, Leo hung around animals instead. Currently, a black cat was his only companion. Silently, the young man nuzzled against it and scratched behind the feline’s ears; causing the cat to purr and nuzzle back. Such a reaction was much better than what he usually got from people. Animals always seemed to like him though— Even the most frightening of creatures always flocked to him. Why exactly that was remained a mystery, but the fact remained that animals liked him more than people did and that was rather depressing.

"So does this mean you're a cat person...?"

“All dogs are gross. End of story.” No hope at all, she was mean to the core, puppies couldn’t melt the ice in her soul.

"But... but dogs are fluffy... and cute... Have you never seen a puppy? Because puppies will definitely change your mind!" Is there no hope for this one?

“And? It doesn’t make me dislike them any less.” What an idiot.

"Yeah. In dog language. Look it up. Because it's true." Caleb must defend poor, misunderstood animals.

“So when they lick their asses they’re trying to tell me that they like me?” Yeah, Hope would probably like this guy.

Oh shit.
Oh shit.
OH SHIT.
Caleb stared in horror as the multitude of tea cups he was holding flew out of his hands due to some customer deciding it would be in jolly good fun to push him hard to see what happens. He could hear his boss harping at him when he sees what happened and the dreaded words of, 'I told you so,' because he didn't listen about the difficulties of carrying many tea cups at once. How was Caleb supposed to know that people were going to push him and make him drop the cups?
Oh man, his boss was going to kill him.

"Excuse you, dogs don't smell, they just have their own kind of scent, is all. Kind of like flowers. And only some dogs drool! Probably. I mean, sure, the licking is probably uncomfortable, but that's how you know they like you!"

“Why would I lie about such a thing? They stink, they drool, they lick less then pleasent spots, just disgusting.” This boy thought like Hope did about the beasts.
