Why Name a Company 404 in a Land of Mass Graves?
In this small area, nearly 1,000 mass graves were created within just 80 years. So why would someone establish a company called "404"?
Tumblr media
The number evokes loss, absence, and erasure—just like the forgotten victims. Naming it "404" may reflect denial, digital irony, or a dark commentary on historical amnesia.

Two Headlines, One Message - People Want Change, From Zagreb to the OSCE
In recent days, two very different calls for action have stirred public attention: one local, one global. In Zagreb, a growing movement is urging the return of a night commuter train service to better connect suburban workers and late-night travelers. Meanwhile, on the international stage, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky used his platform at the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly to advocate for a complete regime change in Russia as the only viable path to European peace.
Tumblr media
Both events, while distinct in scope and scale, reflect a broader human yearning for systems that work better, are more just, and respond to the needs of ordinary people.
Zagreb's Silent Nights—Interrupted by Petition
Since the cancellation of the night commuter rail service in Zagreb, thousands of workers, students, and cultural attendees have been left stranded. A citizen-led petition demanding the reinstatement of this service has already gathered over 1,000 signatures. Activists argue that the lack of public transit options after midnight disproportionately affects those who work late shifts or attend evening events, effectively limiting their mobility, safety, and opportunities.
The petition isn’t merely about convenience; it's a demand for dignity. In a city aiming to be more inclusive, modern, and green, this call for better nighttime transport is a small but essential step toward social equity. It also aligns with climate goals by promoting rail use over car dependency.
Zelensky at OSCE: The War Must End at Its Root
Across Europe, another petition—albeit of a more figurative kind—is being circulated by Zelensky. Speaking at the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) conference, the Ukrainian president did not mince words. He called for regime change in Russia, asserting that peace will only be possible when "Russia is no longer ruled by those who started this war."
Zelensky’s message was sharp but not entirely unexpected. With ongoing Russian aggression in Ukraine, the address was a clarion call to Western democracies: stability requires accountability. By explicitly linking long-term peace to political change within Russia, Zelensky underscored the moral and strategic complexities facing the global order today.
Common Thread: A Demand for Functional Systems
What connects a Croatian night train and a geopolitical confrontation? The underlying insistence that institutions—whether local transport ministries or global alliances—must serve the people. These stories remind us that public engagement matters, whether through digital petitions or diplomatic speeches.
A thousand signatures or a single speech can indeed move the needle—if the world is willing to listen.

The Greeting That Smiles Back
Host: Welcome! Guest: Thank you—it's even better to be here with you!
Tumblr media
There’s a charming custom in the Balkans that often surprises visitors. When someone says “Dobrodošli”—“Welcome!”—the polite guest doesn’t just say “Thank you.” Instead, they reply with a warm and slightly playful phrase: “Još bolje vas naš'o,” which loosely means “Even better to have found you.”
It’s not just good manners. It reflects a whole worldview—one that values hospitality not as a formal duty, but as a celebration of human connection. When someone welcomes you, you don’t just acknowledge it; you return the warmth. You let them know that being with them is even more valuable than being welcomed.
It’s a linguistic hug.
In a world that often rushes through greetings and forgets the meaning behind them, this tiny cultural gem reminds us: true hospitality isn’t just about saying hello—it’s about making someone feel like they truly belong.

Political Correctness Advice - Beware of Boredom
Creating a website that ranks or mocks the "stupidest county in the world" may sound like edgy satire, but it walks a fine line between humor and harm. While the internet thrives on lists, controversies, and tongue-in-cheek content, this particular concept risks reinforcing harmful stereotypes and offending entire populations. Intelligence is not a metric that can—or should—be applied to regions wholesale. What may seem like collective ignorance or backwardness is often the result of complex socio-economic, historical, or political factors far beyond the control of individual citizens.
Tumblr media
Moreover, the term “stupid” is inherently derogatory. It lacks nuance and invites ridicule rather than reflection. A platform designed around such framing could easily veer into xenophobia, classism, or racism, especially if it targets real places and communities. Even if intended as satire, many users may interpret it literally, spreading misinformation and reinforcing prejudices.
If the goal is to highlight flawed policies, poor governance, or absurd public decisions, then there are far more constructive and ethically sound ways to go about it. Humor doesn’t have to come at the expense of dignity. A creative alternative could use fictional locations, absurd scenarios, or focus on behaviors rather than blaming populations. This approach preserves the spirit of satire without resorting to dehumanization.
In the end, how we speak about others—especially entire regions—matters. The freedom to critique should not be confused with a license to shame. If we’re going to laugh at the world, let’s at least be thoughtful about the punchline.

World Hepatitis Day — Vaccinated Against the B Strain. What’s Next?
On July 28, we mark World Hepatitis Day to raise awareness about viral hepatitis, a serious liver disease affecting millions worldwide.
Getting vaccinated against hepatitis B is a crucial step, but here’s what else you should consider:
Get tested for hepatitis C (HCV). There’s no vaccine, but effective treatments exist.
Consider hepatitis A vaccination if you travel or have liver conditions.
Protect your liver: avoid excessive alcohol, watch medications, and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Regular health checkups with liver tests help early detection.
Remember, prevention and early treatment save lives. One life, one liver — take care of yours!

Ustaša Women: Fierce or Forgotten?
It cannot be unequivocally said that the Ustaša women were 'more brutal' than the Ustaša men overall, but individually, some Ustaša women showed pronounced brutality and cruelty, often even beyond what was expected for their roles.

ᵁᵖᵈᵃᵗᵉᵈ 🇭🇷 Can You Survive on 400 EUR per Month in Zagreb?
Surviving on 400 euros per month in Zagreb is extremely difficult, but not entirely impossible — it depends on your living situation, priorities, and any support you might have (family, subsidized housing, or student status).
Tumblr media
Here's a breakdown:
🔍 Typical Monthly Costs in Zagreb (2025):
1. Accommodation
Room in a shared apartment: €150–300
Studio apartment: €300–500 (rarely below €350)
➤ If you don’t pay rent (e.g., living with family), 400 EUR becomes more manageable.
2. Food
Home-cooked, frugal meals: €100–150/month
Eating out: €5–10 per meal (not sustainable daily)
3. Utilities & Internet
Shared apartment utilities: €40–80
Internet/mobile: €10–20
4. Transport
Monthly ZET pass (student/social): €13.27
Regular monthly pass: €53.09
✅ How You Could Manage It:
You live with your parents or have free/cheap housing
You avoid going out or spending on cafés/restaurants
You cook at home and shop smart (Lidl, Konzum, Plodine, etc.)
You walk, cycle, or use a discounted public transport pass
You apply for city subsidies (social support, heating aid, student dorms, etc.)
❌ What Makes It Hard:
Any unexpected costs (dental, medications, phone repair…)
Mentally draining — constant stress about every euro
No room for savings, entertainment, travel, or personal growth
✨ Conclusion:
If you don’t pay rent and you’re very careful with spending — yes, it's doable. If you do pay rent — it’s extremely difficult.

Global Displacement Crisis: A Call for Action
As of April 2025, the world faces an unprecedented displacement crisis, with 122.1 million people forcibly displaced due to ongoing conflicts, violence, and instability. This staggering figure, a decade-high, underscores the urgent need for global cooperation, humanitarian aid, and lasting conflict resolution to address the crisis and support affected communities.
Tumblr media
Key Statistics
122.1 million forcibly displaced people worldwide by the end of April 2025.
83.4 million internally displaced people (IDPs) globally at the end of 2024, with 73.5 million driven by conflict and violence.
2.09 million Sudanese refugees recorded in 2025, reflecting an 18% increase compared to the previous year.
Regional breakdown:
Africa: 45.4 million people forced to flee.
Asia (including the Middle East): 45.8 million displaced individuals.
Impacts and Challenges
The surge in displacement exacerbates humanitarian crises, straining resources and destabilizing regions. Displaced populations face immense challenges, including lack of access to basic needs, safety, and opportunities for sustainable livelihoods. The ripple effects of these crises threaten global stability, making coordinated efforts critical.
The Path Forward
To address this crisis and enable safe returns, the international community must prioritize:
Diplomatic efforts to resolve ongoing conflicts.
Humanitarian support to provide immediate relief, including food, shelter, and medical care.
Community rebuilding to create sustainable solutions for displaced populations.
Together, we can work toward a future where displaced individuals can return home safely and rebuild their lives with dignity.
