Hi, Tumblr. It’s Tumblr. We’re working on some things that we want to share with you.
AI companies are acquiring content across the internet for a variety of purposes in all sorts of ways. There are currently very few regulations giving individuals control over how their content is used by AI platforms. Proposed regulations around the world, like the European Union’s AI Act, would give individuals more control over whether and how their content is utilized by this emerging technology. We support this right regardless of geographic location, so we’re releasing a toggle to opt out of sharing content from your public blogs with third parties, including AI platforms that use this content for model training. We’re also working with partners to ensure you have as much control as possible regarding what content is used.
Here are the important details:
We already discourage AI crawlers from gathering content from Tumblr and will continue to do so, save for those with which we partner.
We want to represent all of you on Tumblr and ensure that protections are in place for how your content is used. We are committed to making sure our partners respect those decisions.
To opt out of sharing your public blogs’ content with third parties, visit each of your public blogs’ blog settings via the web interface and toggle on the “Prevent third-party sharing” option.
For instructions on how to opt out using the latest version of the app, please visit this Help Center doc.
Please note: If you’ve already chosen to discourage search crawling of your blog in your settings, we’ve automatically enabled the “Prevent third-party sharing” option.
If you have concerns, please read through the Help Center doc linked above and contact us via Support if you still have questions.

I know you have all probably seen the esims for gaza posts circulating. Some of you have probably looked at them and thought maybe you should help out, but have weighed up the daunting process of signing up for something you're unfamiliar with vs. the gut-wrenching scale of the things people are going through on the ground right now, and you've put it off or questioned whether it will make enough of a difference vs. some other future kind of activism you could put that $6+ towards. I'm not calling you out or scolding you, it is natural to feel conflicted and ambivalent about the multiple calls for aid that you are seeing on social media.
but consider this: what would you do if you suddenly had to leave your home? how would you cope? how would you begin to plan where to go next, or figure out what to do to take care of yourself? most likely you would reach reflexively for your phone.
telecoms access is not a petty luxury in 2024. a loaded esim means the ability to call family members and find out where they are and whether they're safe, and whether they need anything you can provide for them. it means access to maps and regular updates on the situation unfolding around you. it means you can look up whether it's safe to drink rain water, or how to tie a type of knot you've never had to think about before, or how to treat an injury without medical supplies. it means the ability to tell people outside the situation what you are seeing, what you are feeling, what you are thinking. it is an absolutely crucial resource. and it starts at $6 for 7 days.
many many people have observed that internet access is changing the way the world understands genocide. internet access is life or death, and it is shaping modern history in front of you. and it starts at $6 for 7 days.
please, please visit gazaesims.com and spend 5 minutes and $6 to change the way this plays out for everyone.

I'm begging other trans people to read an ounce of Black Feminist or Decolonialist Feminist writing. I'm on my hands and knees and begging you. I promise you, I promise you, there is so much more to Feminist theory than anything you have picked up from White/Radical/Pop/Liberal Feminism I promise you. Read There Is No Hierarchy Of Oppressions By Audre Lorde. I have a link to the PDF right here you can read it for free. Take my hand I can't do this alone (thanks glass beach). People underestimate how much it fucks you up to be subtly excluded as a kid. I would try to talk to my classmates and be met with disinterest or annoyance. The one friend I had, who I clung to and nodded along to his every word, had other friends he liked just as much or more. And his other friends didn’t care for me at all.
I look back at pictures from the time and see how separated I was from them. I remember knowing I was different. I remember posing questions about the world to the girls playing next to me and realizing that they had never asked the same ones to themselves. That the ways we thought couldn’t be more different.
I kept myself amused with my own fanatical stories and musings in my head. I would wander the playground on a circular path, imagining a friend and being sorely disappointed when it didn’t feel as real as I’d hoped.
There was a bubble separating me from everyone else, thin, and nearly invisible, but with a pearly sheen you could catch under the right conditions. I knew it was there, they knew it was there, and it changed me

Once again recommending donations to the Palestinian Children’s Relief Fund. Not only is it a credible organization, you can donate any amount, so even if you don’t have much money, you can still contribute what you can towards humanitarian aid in Gaza. It takes donations via credit, PayPal, and mailed checks.

So some good news.
The WFP is actually reaching Ghazzawis for food distribution and has even helped Ghazzan bakeries in Deir Al Balah and Rafah reopen by providing flour, yeast, water, etc... according to Palestinian journalist Hind Khoudary (this was on her story the other day so I can't link it).
The PCRF is also active in Ghazzah, providing medicine and even food to Ghazzawis in shelters.
Today, I ask each one of you to donate at least one dollar to both of these organisations, and more if you can spare it.

Social media storm for Palestine 11/01/2024 and 12/01/2024
Palestinian advocacy groups are asking people online like you to partake in a social media storm in conjunction with the ICJ hearings of South Africa against Israel for violations of its obligations under the Genocide Convention; a Cyber Intifada (Cyber Revolution). For those who don't know, a social media storm is when people organize to simultaneously post about the same topic, with the same hashtag and about the same topic, to spread awareness and clog up Internet servers and feeds on social media platforms. It's a similar strategy to emailing and calling your representatives in large amounts so they're forced to face the issue you want to represent, but instead it targets everyone.
Instructions:
On Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, Facebook, TikTok and whatever other platforms you have you should:
Prepare / schedule posts / content containing the hashtag "EndIsraelsGenocide". These posts should be of videos, pictures, statements, and other forms of evidence of the genocide Israel is committing against Palestinians.
If you can be active online at the time of the storm, interact with, comment, share, etc... each other's posts to maximize engagement with the hashtag and increase its effectiveness.
Schedule these posts for:
Thursday January 11th, from 10AM to 12PM in South Africa and Palestine time. This corresponds to 3AM in EST, 12AM in PST, 11AM Mecca time, 8AM GMT & UTC, and 4PM China time).
Friday, January 12th, from 10AM to 12PM in South Africa and Palestine time. This corresponds to 3AM in EST, 12AM in PST, 11AM Mecca time, 8AM GMT & UTC, and 4PM China time).
If you're unsure what time zone you live in, please consult this list and start trying to make the calculations now.
Prepare your posts, compile the evidence beforehand if need be. You can look through the tags in my blog "zionist occupation" to compile the stuff in there. Try to focus on statements from Palestinian survivors.

for anyone who isn’t aware, friendsofthecongo.org/campaigns contains a list of actions you can take to help the democratic republic of congo, including pdfs of postcards you can print and send to a list of tech companies to tell them to stop using child miners AND a letter you can sign and send to your reps (+ potentially incorporate the main points of that letter into any scripts you might already be using for emails or calls to your reps!). friends of the congo also has a volunteer application form and a youtube channel

Displaced Palestinian children. Despite the bombardment, they still try to smile. Are these children less deserving of what children in the west have? Because they’re Palestinian!? Being Palestinian isn’t a crime. They do have names, and they have dreams. THEY TOO ARE HUMAN.❤️‍🩹
