Last year, Cal Banda came into my studio and recorded 7 tracks. These tracks consisted of crazy time signatures, ridiculously great riffs, pounding drums and mental vocals with obtuse lyrics. I produced, engineered and mixed this record for these lovely guys that have just set up some social media pages. This week the EP is getting mastered by Robin Schmidt who's recently mastered records for Ben Howard, ASIWYFA, The 1975, The Black Keys, and Birmingham's new favourite band Superfood. You can watch a little video of how eccentric this EP is going to be by click on this link; https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=872520952788898

So, I've been working out of my sort of "make-shift" control room at my house recently (in between teaching music). The room sounds great, and the vibe is awesome. My focal speakers are sounding better than ever; having them up on sand filled stands now. My room also has a piano, so it's been great mic'ing that up instead of using midi sound patches (no offence to them). I'm looking to upgrade my Pro Tools rig now, I'm thinking about either an Apollo (but I already have a UAD Quad card in my computer) but could do with some more mic pre's, especially now I want to start tracking outside of a studio environment. What do you think? Any recommendations?

Tour James Murphy's infamous recording studio with Juan Maclean and Nick Millhiser from Holy Ghost!
DFA records are probably one of the biggest electronica influences that beholds me. I've recently thought very hard about starting a record label, and reading this article from vice magazine has really really started some more inspiration.

A few weeks ago....
Eyes In Istanbull came into my studio for an evening of vibes and record their first EP. We spoke about it and came to the conclusion that it should be tracked entirely live. So I threw up a bunch of mics, and this is the result, the first track titled 'Warm Dark Places'. I must say it was lovely hanging out in my studio with them, so please check them out; and as for why soundcloud instantly crushes the high end of a track once you upload it I do not know, their file compression format is the worst.

With how busy it's been, i've still had to complete a remix for a band from LA, called Blondfire. Check it.
