Prior to the introduction of the vaccine in 1995, there were around 4 million cases per year in the United States. Ten years after the vaccine was recommended in the US, the CDC reported as much as a 90% drop in chickenpox cases. One dose of the vaccine prevents 95% of moderate disease and 100% of severe disease.

Measles meets its match
In 1958, there were 763,094 cases of measles in the United States. In 2008, there were 64 suspected cases of measles thanks to immunization from vaccines.

Polio loses its punch
Jonas Salk introduces the Salk vaccine, or inactivated poliovirus vaccine, to the world. With two doses of the vaccine, 90% or more of individuals develop protective antibody to all three serotypes of polio, and at least 99% are immune to polio following three doses.

Celebration International Mud Month June 2021
We sit each day in cubicles and under flickering lights, staring at screens that shimmer with a digital world, and every day we lose ourselves a little bit to the cold light of electron pathways.
Children dive into games, experiencing narratives created by dreamers of other worlds, without ever learning to open their minds and find the narrative within themselves.
International Mud Month was created to remind us that outside, away from the geometrical perfection of man 19s world, lay the organized chaos of mother nature 19s realm, and the importance of maintaining our connection to it.
History of International Mud Month
In 2009 the children of Bold Park Community School joined forces with the boys of the Nepalese Panchkhal orphanage to celebrate the visceral and primal connection we all share with Earth and the outdoors.
Bold Park used this opportunity to raise funds to help support the less fortunate children of Nepal. Since that fateful beginning, schools, families, and ECE centers from all over the world have worked together to promote the idea that we all need to play in the mud sometimes, just to remember what it means to be human.
In 2015 it was decided that one day of playing in the mud simply wasn 19t sufficient to ground us after a year of being lost in the technological glitz and digital glamour of our modern world, and so it was changed from 1CInternational Mud Day 1D to 1CInternational Mud Month 1D, and thus the celebration continued!
It 19s not all about our personal connection with the Earth, but also about how we as humans connect to one another, and the relationships we form throughout our lives. Like any two ponds of mud, no two humans are exactly alike, and so International Mud Month encourages us to share that diversity and celebrate it!
How to Celebrate International Mud Month
First off, get ye to the mountains and fields! Out among the blooming flowers and down into the flowing creeks. Head out over the airy mountain, and through the wooded glen, and get muddy up to your neck in search of fairy dens!
Then start organizing with others to create fund-raisers centered on remembering that we were all wild once, and we should not let the digital world tame us! Get out there and play in the mud!

Lyme disease is a potentially life-altering illness that is caused by bacteria transmitted from the bite of a tick. Unfortunately, the incidence of Lyme Disease is on the rise throughout the Western Hemisphere, as tick populations are expanding due to climate change. To combat this spread, many people participate in Lyme Disease Awareness Month, and help educate the public about the symptoms and cause of Lyme Disease. Many regions and municipalities organize events and fundraisers to raise funds for research, and people wear green ribbons or replace their porch lights with green bulbs.
It is important to educate people about Lyme Disease, because it is often misdiagnosed. Early symptoms can include a rash, fever, headaches and fatigue. If the disease is left untreated, it can result in joint and heart problems, chronic pain, and cognitive problems such as difficulties concentrating or remembering things. As with many diseases, treatment is more effective if Lyme Disease is diagnosed early. Needless to say it 19s absolutely vital that awareness is spread and people learn how to protect themselves, their families, and their pets from this potentially dangerous disease.

We Jump The World Day is dedicated to this art, otherwise known as free running, and the attitude towards obstacles that it gives the enthusiast. History of We Jump The World Day
The origin of Parkour can be traced back to Western Europe, where George Hebert, a French Naval Officer, was ruminating on his time among the indigenous tribes of Africa. He discovered that without any formal training, they had beautifully tuned bodies that were graceful, nimble, skillful, and all of this the result of the way they lived their lives, nothing more. He would revisit these experiences during a rescue operation on Mount Pelee, his experiences there confirming in his mind that courage and altruism were intrinsic parts of athletic skill.
David Belle would not be born for 37 years after he reached these conclusions, but he would come upon these studies as the result of exploring his own father 19s successes in athletics and gymnastics. He would discover a method of training that his father used called 1CParcours, 1D which he then began practicing himself. It wouldn 19t be long before he started expanding this philosophy to the world and sharing the art of what would become known as parkour.

Parkour may be an art form that is focused on the honing and expansion of the bodies abilities, but it is built on the philosophy that obstacles in our lives can nourish us through our efforts to conquer them. Further, that the best way to surmount an obstacle is to use the most natural and energy efficient methods possible. If you aren 19t interested in pursuing the art of parkour yourself, it is still a good opportunity to watch videos of the people who do and perhaps spend some time reading to understand exactly what drives these remarkable athletes.
