Project2: Challenges
When working on this MR project, the biggest challenge I faced was how to clearly convey a story with emotional ups and downs on a relatively simple platform like STYLY. Initially, I wanted to use Unity to create a puzzle game, but later found it too complex and had to switch to using photos and audio to express the feeling of "moments". Another difficulty was the issue of selection. At first, I wanted to include a lot of content, but as I worked on it, I realized that too much would make the theme unclear. In the end, I chose to simplify the scenes and leave the emotional blanks for the audience to experience on their own. This was actually a rather interesting process.

"On the Morning You Wake" is a VR video that recreates the 38-minute real experience of the missile alert in Hawaii. The creators do not aim to lecture us but rather want us to "personally" experience the fear of suddenly receiving the message "a missile is coming". They use VR technology to make us face the life-and-death choice just like the people at that time. After watching it, I really thought: If I received that text message, who would I call first? What would I do? This work made me understand that nuclear threat is not a distant news but something that could happen at any time. This immersive experience is very shocking and makes people start to think seriously.

New idea
Due to some technical problems that couldn't be overcome in the previous idea, I changed my approach and started a brand-new project. The user walks along a quiet corridor where several photos are hung on the wall. Each time a photo is clicked, a sound is played - some are gentle words from a mother, some are snippets of a neighbor's life, and some are monologues buried deep in memory. These sounds and images form tiny yet genuine "moments in time".
What I want to express is that our understanding of emotions often doesn't occur in grand scenes but is gradually formed in the crevices of these corridors, in those casual overheard words or glimpsed photos. These moments cannot be quantified, yet they are quietly altering our attitudes towards home, our ability to empathize with others, and our understanding of ourselves.

Project2: Build an idea
This idea originated from my association with the theme of "moments". I thought of some very small instants in life, such as after having an argument with family members, going out alone to calm down, and hearing the voices from other households, suddenly understanding them a bit. This transformation wasn't due to major events but because of a quiet moment. I have had similar experiences myself, so I wanted to turn this feeling into an MR experience. Let players gradually let go of their emotions by listening to snippets of their neighbors' lives, then get the key to go home by solving a puzzle, and finally see the warm meal and apology letter left by their mother, telling a gentle story through a simple process.

Project1: Complete

I chose a small rented room as the setting. On the desk, a laptop, an unfinished cup of coffee, and a sticky note filled with to-do items were scattered about. The bed was not neatly made, and a few pieces of clothes that had not been put away were piled up on the chair beside it. The takeout box and instant noodle bucket at the corner of the desk seemed to be mocking this makeshift night.
I want to restore these details through 3D scanning, and then add sounds and text to simulate a person's real state. In terms of sound effects, there will be the beeping of an alarm clock, the sound of water flowing through the pipes, the wind outside the window or the occasional honking of a car. I also want to imply the pressure and troubles this person is facing by adding some motivational posters. I believe this can help me capture the essence of this space and explore the hardships and loneliness behind young people's efforts to pursue better jobs and go to big cities alone.
However, during the production process, we encountered quite a few technical challenges. For instance, due to the small room space, the scanning equipment was often restricted, resulting in some items overlapping or being partially blocked from being scanned, which required multiple adjustments and re-shoots from different angles. Additionally, to present a truly lived-in atmosphere, the scene couldn't be arranged too neatly, but this also increased the workload for post-restoration. Despite the somewhat cumbersome process, once completed, the feeling that "this space is truly alive" is something I'm very eager to share with the audience.

Project 1 :Build an Idea
Recently, while chatting with my sister who is in China, I learned that she is currently alone in a big city seeking a better job and has just rented a place. During our conversation, I could sense that she is under a lot of pressure in a strange city. This made me have some thoughts about my first project.
This scene is not intended to convey a dramatic sense of loneliness, but rather the kind of exhaustion and compromise that every striver in a foreign land experiences: "It's okay for now. I can try harder tomorrow." I hope that through some realistic depictions of rental housing, the experiencer can empathize at some point, perhaps seeing a neglected corner of their own life.
(This picture shows the night view of my rented house. It's beautiful yet lonely.)
