Luma Robotics Event Reports: Roblox King of Bots
Yeah... This is going to be a short one.
---------------------------------------------------------
I felt semi-ready going into the tournament, but I would very quickly be proven wrong as Luma's Plow RRC was completely passed over in the pre-selection phase and instantly sent to the eliminator rumbles. My opponents for qualification would be overhead spinner Shogun and wedge flamethrower Danny Sebastian.

The entire fight consisted of me and Danny Sebastian bullying Shogun around the arena and Danny Sebastian countering my wedge with his own and torching Luma's Plow RRC. The fight inevitably went to a judges decision with Danny Sebastian coming out victorious.
It is here that I mention that this is where I take a hiatus from the RRC simply because I prefer building in real life the the coding debacle that is Roblox Studio.
Until next tine, this is Lumakid100 signing off.

Luma Robotics Robots: Luma's Plow 75

This is Luma's Plow 75, a WIP 75g fleaweight. The reason I bring this up is because I plan to host a fleaweight event in the US sometime in the future. Right now, it weighs 100-ish grams because I haven't made any modifications to the chassis or electronics yet, but I plan to build this in a similar vain to Team Panic's DrCriminal and replace the Hexbug board with a Malenki Nano ESC. The wedge files are available on Thingiverse, MyMiniFactory, and GrabCAD if anyone would like to make their own rendition.

Luma Robotics Event Reports: Norwalk Havoc Robot League March 2021
Ah, NHRL. Despite being the source of so much robot related pain and the worst asskickings of my entire career, it holds a soft spot in my heart because it is where I made my official robot combat debut. Without further ado, let's see how my robot combat debut went with Luma's Weed Whacker 3.

____________________________________________
Going into this, I was absolutely nervous. One could say that I was falling apart at the seams. But ready or not, my debut fight was coming and I would have to face fellow rookie and near direct counter to my own bot, Obliterator.

The fight started with both bots spinning up and their builders getting used to the controls. The two charged at each other and exchanged a weapon to weapon hit that had one of Obliterator's drive motors sniped by Luma's Weed Whacker. They shared another hit that flipped Obliterator. Obliterator couldn't self right and tapped out.
Needless to say, I was absolutely riding the high of winning my very first fight and by what is basically a knockout, no less. However, my next opponent would quickly slap the cockiness out of me as I was fighting future finalist, Blackbird.

The fight started with both bots spinning up and Blackbird throwing Luma's Weed Whacker into Brett. Blackbird then got a series of hits on Luma's Weed Whacker that ended with Blackbird shooting Luma's Weed Whacker into the ceiling and Luma's Weed Whacker landing on the corner camera which broke it. The two kept going at each other and Blackbird got stuck on its side. Brett quickly fixed that and the two went at each other with a vengeance. Eventually, Blackbird got stuck on its weapon rails, but shook itself free. Luma's Weed Whacker's battery then gave out and its drive died from a lack of power. Brett slammed Luma's Weed Whacker into the wall in an attempt to get it moving again, but failed. Brett tried again and ejected its top onto Luma's Weed Whacker. Having seen enough, Luma's Weed Whacker tapped out and the win went to Blackbird.

Despite the fact that I brutally got my ass kicked, this is my favorite fight of my career so far purely because of how much fun I had fighting Blackbird. I managed to hit through his wheel guard and nearly killed both of his drive motors, and this damage stuck around long enough for fellow Vector kit Red Hawk to take out Blackbird later.

My next fight would be up against first time competitor and Viper kit, Sacrificer. Due to the fact that Sacrificer was fighting well outside of his weight class, I decided to make use of NHRL's 1lb weight bonus for clusterbots and throw my Candy_Wasp kit Luma's Plow 1, into the ring alongside Luma's Weed Whacker 3. Hobby friend, William Sonia, would be driving Luma's Plow 1 for this match while I held back to see what he could do.

The fight started with Luma's Plow 1 missing the charge while Sacrificer and Luma's Weed Whacker spun up. Luma's Plow then backed off as Sacrificer went to Luma's Weed Whacker who tore off its feeder wedge and shot it to the center of the arena. Luma's Plow then went in again to run interference while Luma's Weed Whacker gathered its bearings. Luma's Plow then backed off so Luma's Weed Whacker could finish the job. Luma's Weed Whacker tore off Sacrificer's main wedge and Sacrificer tapped out.
After that euthenization of Sacrificer, I prepared to face my next opponent, Envoy, but first, Theo Hummel had some parting words to say to me. He had been eliminated earlier in the tournament and since I was still in, we couldn't have that grudge match we've wanted since we met back at MASSdestruction 18. Now without further ado, let's see what Envoy had in store.

The fight started with both bots spinning up and Luma's Weed Whacker tearing off one of Envoy's wheels. Envoy then destroyed a camera as it started hockey pucking to get away from Luma's Weed Whacker. The rest of the fight was Luma's Weed Whacker chasing down Envoy and eventually removing its other wheel. Envoy tapped out and the win went to Luma's Weed Whacker.
I fucking embarassed myself in this fight. Sure, I won and drove what was probably the best fight of my life with the precision I clipped Envoy's wheels with, but I was screeching my head off like a banshee while badly trying to taunt my opponent. To whoever drove Envoy at that event, if you're reading this, I apologize for my ringside behavior. Anyway, up next I was fighting future NHRL 2021 Grand Finalist, Voxel.

The fight started with both bots spinning up and exchanging weapon to weapon hits. Voxel's drive was crippled on one side, but Luma's Weed Whacker's belt snapped. The rest of the fight was Luma's Weed Whacker trying to push Voxel and Voxel trying to finish off Luma's Weed Whacker. Eventually the two got stuck together and Bert had to separate them. Voxel couldn't move and was counted out and the win went to Luma's Weed Whacker 3.
So... Starchild REALLY fucked up Voxel in the last round. For all intents and purposes, I should not have won that fight. The only reason I did is because I didn't take any significant damage the entire tournament while Voxel had to tangle with Starchild, a robot who singlehandedly carried a team of four championship caliber beetleweights to victory in the 12lb hobbyweight bracket. With that aside, I somehow won another fight and by luck of the draw, I was up against Doomkid with his brand new beater bot, Dread Hades.

The fight started with both bots spinning up and Dread Hades throwing Luma's Weed Whacker in the air. Dread Hades quickly took off Luma's Weed Whacker's belt and got to work. The entire fight was Dread Hades throwing Luma's Weed Whacker around the arena while Luma's Weed Whacker tried to push back against Dread Hades. The fight went to a judges decision where Dread Hades won.
And with that loss, I was out of the tournament. Probably for the better as I had snapped my last weapon belt during the fight which means that I would have had to forfeit anyway due to not having a weapon to comply with the active weapon requirement.
Until next time, Lumakid100 signing off.

Luma Robotics Event Reports: ROW: Overclockled

I came into this competition with high hopes and Luma's Plow RRC. However, this event was more like the days of early Robot Wars or Robotica where there would be multiple side competitions in addition to the main tournament. Because I was signed up for the main tournament and the challenge belt, this event report will be split into multiple sections.
____________________________________________
Main Tournament
Going into this, I noticed the arena had timed pits which I was not used to. I found out that my opponent would be Discord friend Crystal Carnage and his flipper, Mystic 2.

The fight started with both robots driving tentatively before Mystic 2 flipped Luma's Plow. Luma's Plow tried to bait Mystic 2 into righting it which worked after a few tries. Luma's Plow then rammed Mystic 2 into the wall and the two danced around each other for a while. The pits then opened and Luma's Plow pushed Mystic 2 in while also falling in itself because of going full throttle. The win was given to Luma's Plow because Mystic 2 fell in first.
Not the cleanest one, but I managed to snag a win in an unfamiliar arena type. I am fully aware that fight could have been a loss because I have seen this same tactic applied in real life events where the robot being pushed into the pit jukes out their opponent by reversing off their wedge and spinning out of the way, sending the opponent into the pit because they couldn't stop in time. Back to the event, my next event was against front hinged flipper, Darkrai.

The fight started with the two bots circling each other before Darkrai flipped Luma's Plow. Darkrai then righted Luma's Plow before getting it stuck on its side. Darkrai then knocked it down for another flip. Darkrai eventually righted Luma's Plow who tried to take advantage and ram Darkrai into the wall. Darkrai then flipped Luma's Plow again and kept flipping it into the wall for a while. The two then escaped as the pits opened. With the pits open, Darkrai made short work of Luma's Plow by dumping it in the pit.
Let's be honest, who else saw that coming? Darkrai had better control and the only thing I could do after he flipped me was run around like a headless chicken and pray that I could somehow turn the fight around. Darkrai deserved that win and I hope we can have a rematch one day.
____________________________________________
Challenge Belt
After the main tournament ended, all the builders were called back to start the side events. Despite losing to Darkrai, I was optimistic for my qualifier because those fights gave me more stick experience. The qualifier was a four way rumble between me, Mystic 2, vertical spinner Hourglass, and flipper Greyhound.
Mystic 2

Hourglass

Greyhound

The fight started with Greyhound charging at Mystic 2 while Luma's Plow charged at Hourglass as the latter spun up. Greyhound flipped Mystic 2 and then targeted and flipped Hourglass as Luma's Plow went after the turtled Mystic 2. Mystic 2 then self righted as it was targeted by Hourglass who was then thrown out of the arena by Greyhound. Luma's Plow missed a charge on Greyhound and quickly suffered the same fate. Mystic 2 then managed to flip Greyhound and clamp on it as Greyhound self righted. The rest of the fight was Greyhound kicking around Mystic 2 while it tried to fight back. The pits then opened and Greyhound pushed Mystic 2 in.
So... I got thrown out of the arena. I had a feeling after seeing Greyhound mop the floor with Hourglass, but I didn't expect him to throw me out of the arena. No shame in losing to the winner of the fight.
Until next time, Lumakid100 signing off.

Luma Robotics Event Reports: Stadium Stampede

Going into this event, I had a better idea of what to expect from my robot, Luma's Plow RRC. What I failed to account for was how much better my opponents would be. I had the usual pre event jitters before my first fight, but I managed to shake them out before finding out my round 1 opponent. Slap Vox.

The fight started with Luma's Plow driving cautiously while Slap Vox set its lifter and cranked up the flamethrower. Slap Vox then got under the wedge of Luma's Plow and flipped it. Luma's Plow then tried to get Slap Vox to right it, but Slap Vox just parked its lifter under Luma's Plow and let Luma's Plow roast. Slap Vox then righted Luma's Plow who tried to ram Slap Vox into the wall, but Slap Vox just kept ramping over Luma's Plow. With Luma's Plow out of control, this fight was Slap Vox's to win. The fight went to a judges decision where Slap Vox won.
I do not know what this "Vox" player did to warrant this robot, but back to the actual fight, I got outdriven. One of Slap Vox' surprises was a flamethrower on the lifting arm. While it did nothing to Luma's Plow RRC, it impressed me and more importantly, the judges. Luckily, due to the format, I still had another fight to prove myself. Unfortunately, it was a three-way rumble to determine who would stay in the game against two hard counters to my robot. Omen and Ginseng.
Omen

Ginseng

The fight started with Luma's Plow box rushing Ginseng and missing which caused it to crash into the wall. Luma's Plow then did what it did best and plowed through the dueling Omen and Ginseng. Luma's Plow then slammed Omen into the wall which caused it to flip itself due to the dual spinners. Ginseng's minibots then got under Luma's Plow and teed it up for Ginseng to flip. Omen then righted itself and punted one of the minibots across the arena. Luma's Plow tried to self right off of either of the drums, but it was too tall to pull it off. Omen and Ginseng then exchanged a weapno to weapon hit that threw both bots across the arena. Luma's plow then ran into Omen's horizontal spinner which threw Luma's Plow across the arena. One of Ginseng's minibots then picked up Luma's Plow and slammed it into the wall. Luma's Plow then got lucky as Omen's drum righted it as it was fleeing from Ginseng. Luma's Plow then mainly went after Ginseng while attempting to keep pressure on Omen. Ginseng was eventually knocked on its side through a tag team effort by Luma's Plow and Omen. A count out was started, but one of the minibots saved Ginseng. The fight went to a judges decision where Omen won.
This meant that both me and Ginseng were now out. One of the things that impressed me during the fight was how coordinated Ginseng's drivers were. Those minibots were small, but their drivers used this to their advantage and managed to tee up both me and Omen long enough for Ginseng itself to come in with its drum. Omen also used the minibots to its advantage by punting me across the arena when one of them teed me up.
Until next time, Lumakid100 signing off.

Luma Robotics Event Reports: Bloodsport

Video link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IuUxovPYEFo
My first Roblox competition was Bloodsport with my sole entry being Luma's Plow RRC. I was very excited going into this competition and my first fight was against a discord friend with his vertical spinner, Death By The Hit 3.

The fight started with a box rush from Luma's Plow which missed, but Luma's Plow managed to stay on Death By The Hit. Luma's Plow then managed to flip Death By The Hit who then self righted. After shoving Death By The Hit into the corner, Luma's Plow backed off and let Death By The Hit gather its bearings before ramming it into the wall and sending it flying. Death By The Hit landed on its wheels, but Luma's Plow then shoved it into the corner and flipped it. Death By The Hit was stuck and couldn't self right. Death By The Hit 3 was counted out and the win went to Luma's Plow RRC.
Fresh off my first win, I waited anxiously for my next opponent which turned out to be the same person with his flipper bot. Gladiator.

I lost this fight. Hard. The fight started with Luma's Plow charging at Gladiator and ramping over it. Luma's Plow then tried to find an angle of attack before Gladiator flipped it. Luma's Plow was now inverted and couldn't use its wedge. Luma's Plow tried to get Gladiator to right it which it did. Luma's Plow now took on a defensive driving strategy, but that wasn't enough to evade Gladiator's onslaught. The entire fight was Gladiator toying with Luma's Plow. The fight went to a judges decision where Gladiator won.
I do not blame the judges for giving Gladiator the win. I would've also given him the win because he easily mopped the floor with my bot. Even though the person behind my opponents mainly fights in Roblox, I hope there's a day where we can fight for real.
Until next time, Lumakid100 signing off.

Luma Robotics Robots: Luma's Plow RRC

Luma's Plow RRC is a 4WD wedge bot that I made in Roblox. "Made" is a bit of a stretch because all I did was recolor the kit I got this from, but it was still my first venture into any form of robot combat. I never had as much success in Roblox as I did in real life, but it still taught me some things I should have in my competition mentality. I still have the file for this robot, but the chance of me entering another RRC competition is relatively slim.

Luma Robotics Robots: Luma's Plow 150

My first attempt at a fairyweight. This version of Luma's Plow 150 suffered from a highly exploitable flaw of the tracks falling off on their own half the time. I fittingly went 0-2 with this design at Bayside Robotics First State Fights #1 last summer and have since been in the process of redesigning this bot. The design is complete and available on Thingiverse, MyMiniFactory, and GrabCAD, but it is overweight due to me using heavy electronics. There are currently no competitions to enter Luma's Plow 150 in, but hopefully that will change.

Luma Robotics Robots: Uprising

This Viper kit was actually my first robot ever, being purchased in late 2017. The only reason I have not competed with Uprising yet is the lack of competitions in the New England area that are not NHRL. Despite this, Uprising does have one win under its belt from a grudge match with fellow Viper kit, Buddybot at NHRL during downtime between tournament fights. Uprising is not due to fight anytime soon, but I do have upgrades planned for when I finally stop being lazy and enter this in a competition.

Luma Robotics Robots: Luma's Plow 1

Luma's Plow 1 is the first 1lb antweight that I competed with. I like Candy_Wasp kits purely because of their ability to straight-up eat hits for breakfast. While a tank, it is still possible to win by outdriving me as proven by Sleep Deprived at Bayside Robotics First State Fights #1 last summer (4th place out of 16). Luma's Plow 1 is still active and due to fight again in New Jersey on September 3rd.
