“I’ll be alright.” Kanan assured her with a smile. He rubbed his face for a few moments before lowering them, his worry seeming to have been rubbed away. “Okay, I’m ready.” He said, a more confident air about him. He adjusted his gloves a bit before heading into the other room.

“So when are we leaving?�� Sabine asked, glancing over him. He could feel Zeb and Ezra’s eyes on him as well.

“We’re…not…” He said, putting up a hand as the protests started. “I know I know, but this is her mission, we can’t step on that.”

As she followed Kanan she felt the air onboard the ship shift, as if the pressure had changed. She supposed it had, but didn’t know yet if it had been in her favour. 

Sitting back she watched Kanan’s sweet crew take to their feet, Ezra alone earning himself a cool, evaluating look from Luminara. The Mandalorian and Lasat weren’t truly her responsibility or concern. They were decent people and would find themselves on their own path, but Ezra was a Jedi. Pursing her lips she opted to stay silent, simply watching for a moment as Kanan did his best.

Sighing, finally, when Ezra spoke. He was impassioned and honest, earnest in his desire to simply help his friend. It was admirable, and more than a little enticing, forcing her to rest a hand on Kanan’s shoulder in warning.

Ahmiid gave her a somewhat apologetic look.

“I’m afraid my place is here. And unless there are less than desirable circumstances that require my attention off world, it is here I shall remain.” Not wishing to keep her from where she was going, Ahmiid fell into step beside her. “Tell me, what do you believe the likelihood of a swift end to this conflict is? Although my view of the war is somewhat more political, it seems increasingly unlikely as more systems are choosing sides. Including your own Mirlian, if I am not mistaken.”

“My...birth planet has chosen its path, as it has done before.” With an edge of discomfort, she let it slide, hoping the topic would fall. She held no kinship with her planet, or species, but given the planets dark past she knew it wasn’t unthinkable for someone to make an unfortunate connection between it and her. 

“As for the war...I am saddend to say I don’t see an end to it all. We will not yeild unless shot down but Dooku, the Confedaracy the Senate....I fear they’re alll unwilling to either.” Not everyone spoke so openly about the forces in play, or the dark scene that was being set, bu she prayed Ahmiid was a realist. He had always seemed sensible. “Something will suddenly give, but I can not say what.”

Of course he couldn’t hide anything from Master Luminara. It had been so long since he’d been in the actual presence of a Jedi Master that Kanan felt rather…bewildered. He took a breath, relaxed only slightly by her warm smile, and accepted her invitation.

“Thank you, Master,” he said quietly, and moved to sit across from her. He hoped that she had found his quarters comfortable enough; he’d been bunking with Hera in the interim - not that anyone really minded.

“…To be honest, Master, I’ve been holding back everything for years,” he started. “Ever since I was forced into hiding, I had no choice.” All of it, his fear, his restraint, stemmed from that fateful day. Fear of wearing his saber in public, fear of using his ability to its full potential - he knew it was a dark thing, this fear, but it was hard to shake. And it had bled out into other aspects of his life as well.

“…I’ve taken a student. Ezra, the kid who was with me when we rescued you. He’s strong in the Force, and eager to learn…but I’m not certain that my knowledge is enough to teach him everything he needs to know. I doubt myself. He’s undisciplined, and unfocused…but seeing it in him only reminds me of how much I’m the same way.”

As they settled in she couldn’t help but assess him, seeing both a brave knight and a fool standing abreast in the same man. It was jarring, but not wholly unpleasant. For a moment it almost reminded her of Jedi that had come before.

The warmth of long ago seemed to fadr as he started to speak, mentioning the Purge and the death of the Republic. She’d never needed to hide, and could only imagine what he endured. That pain alone made everything more complicated than it needed to be. “You are afraid.”

There was no fanfare or pretty poetic words, simply the truth. A truth most Jedi had trouble facing head on but she had faith that he would be honest with her. “Fear will not aid you here. Abandon it if you can. You can not teach him to let go if you’re unable to yourself.”

She supposed that was the problem, wasn’t it. With an easy sigh she looked at the scuffed table between them, dark eyes tracing deep scores and tiny river like offshoots. It’d been too long since anyone had asked for her advice, or even spoke to her, leaving her at a loss for words. For a beat she let silence sit between them before she finally found it in her to speak. “Kanan…no one is ready for their apprentice, no one is fully equipped to pass on everything. He will learn things on his own that you could never teach him, as you have without your Master. We pass on wisdom, that is true, but we are teaching more than stances and abilities. Your sole job is to give him the tools he needs. Teach him patience, and give him a drive. If you can find the will to try again, to be as dedicated as you can, the rest should fall into place. That’s all you can truly teach him. The rest he’ll find on his own.”
