My bottle, its label and outer packaging designed for an alcohol-free sparkling wine.
My project was inspired by a central and vibrant place in Glasgow, Glasgow Green Park. With the brief to include the location but at the same time the two elements of nature and purity, I was looking for a fresh, spring-like design that captured a perfect sunny afternoon.
During my research I also discovered that the park has been around for a very long time and has served the people of Glasgow for very basic needs in their daily lives. People grazed cows, fished, went swimming etc. They also made and washed linen.
Nowadays the park welcomes locals and tourists for many outdoor activities, you can see people riding bikes, having barbecues and picnics, playing ball games, walking dogs, rowing. The Park is also populated by many apple trees that bloom in spring to decorate the landscape, in the centre lies the Winter Garden botanical garden. So, I wanted to recreate that very soothing yet festive atmosphere for my label. I chose the idea of the picnic as a theme, as I am personally a big fan of the park and in particular of spending long afternoons on the lawn with friends and good homemade sandwiches.
From the beginning I knew I wanted to use the iconic Vichy print that symbolises for many the idea of a picnic. At first, I had based the whole design on this pattern using it as a background. I had started in this way and with the intention of creating stickers of different elements/monuments of the park and making a collage of them with the name of the wine in the centre. As I went along, I realised that there was a lack of detail and that it was better to focus on one element; I chose the winter garden. The greenhouse is first of all majestic and also easily recognizable and associated with the park. I kept the idea of the Vichy print and developed the idea of the picnic by literally recreating a picnic tablecloth. By playing with perspective, I tried to make the design as realistic as possible and reinforce the feeling of almost being there. Finally, the Winter Garden is surrounded by apples and bunches of Elderflowers, which to my taste finishes the design perfectly. It gives the illusion of a landscape or flower arrangement, like a bouquet. I put the name of the wine underneath with the flavours as a subtitle. The title follows the rounded lines of the tablecloth for a harmony of shapes.
In terms of flavours, I decided to combine my sparkling wine with the sweetness of the apple, which also celebrates the apple blossom. To move away from the cider market, I also added some Elderflower extract, which adds freshness. Finally, the flavours are sealed by the intense taste of cinnamon, which blends beautifully with the apple.
I am very happy with the result. I changed a lot of things as I went along, which allowed me to explore the possibilities as much as possible until I found what visually represented what I was trying to create. The final result is fresh and modern but at the same time romantic/vintage.

White mountain gin
The design of the white mountain gin bottle is also very elegant and botanical but differ a lot from the previous bottle visually.
I love the shape and details within the glass that could make me think of the architectural signature of a botanic gardens. It also make me think of an old cottage window.
The flowery design being on the back of the glass enhances that idea of looking a garden through a window.
The label is minimalist. The name of the drink sit on the centre bottom and two additional text line embrace the bottle shape on each side, vertically.

Fine human non alcoholic spirit
[I found this bottle design on Pinterest and couldn’t find anywhere more informations concerning its content or designer.]
The design attracted me, its simple but working well and telling us a lot about the environmental engagement of the brand.
I like how they pressed the material to display the drink’s label and literally stamped the subheading informations.
The packaging project having to take into consideration the words “nature”, “purity”, I thought interesting to look at spirits bottles with innovating recycled packaging.
The bottle’s shape is simple letting all the attention to its caramel/golden liquid inside.
The papier-mâché (mashed paper) being white also allows to contrast with the liquid, from the bottom to the top.

Origin London Dry Gin
The bottle’s design is very “classic” and at the same time very interesting i believe.
The design gives straight away informations the consumer need to know what constitute the gin. The botanical illustration shows simply and with elegance that it’s made of juniper, I liked a lot the way it’s presented. I though while researching about my location and in Glasgow Green we can find, in its centre, the beautiful winter garden. It made me though of it with its botanical style.
I love that the bottle comes with an additional tiny bottle with botanical flavours.
The idea of the creator is to celebrate the influence the terroir has on the character and the favour of a good gin. Therefore the gin itself is more focused on flavours from the region. The additional bottle is adding more traditional flavours for those who wish it.
Overall, the design is very vintage. We can see that they use an old paper effect for the label and a classic yet very elegant typography. To inform of the flavour provenance, they “stamped” (letters ink pads) the location.
Finally, the bottle is closed with a wax stopper. It enhance the romantic/vintage look of it.
“This is a very enjoyable Gin and Arezzo produce some of the best Juniper berries in the world, making this a very good addition to any Gin or drinks collection.” https://www.secretcellar.co.uk

I love the lightness and finesse of the design. I think that the colour scheme is working very well, it’s a very satisfying set of soft colours. I find it interesting how the different elements are surimposed and create transparency.

Emily Atwood
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Emily Atwood is a multi-disciplinary graphic designer living in New York.
Raised by a creative family, Emily chose to go to Fordham University in NYC to study visual arts. She then join the Laguna college of Arts and Design in California to study design and digital media. Her acquired experience will lead her into digital and UI (user interface) design, while on the side she kept maintenant her interest in type.
Only a year after obtaining her degree, she got offered an internship at Pentagram under Paula Scher’s team. During those three years she worked her way up to senior role and kept developing her interest for type design specifically. Indeed, most of the projects she was on during her Pentagram experience were type-based.
From her many project, one that she particularly enjoyed “The Bush 2020” was about designing a memorable promotional campaign to support women choice in how they wish to treat their pubic hair. This project was the opportunity to do what a few had done before and treat visually a heavy, ‘taboo’ topic. Type was at the center of this project, and used in such a way to represent diversity and empowerment. The variety in sizes and lines thickness is representing the variety among women and their different choices in term of pubic hair care.
Tumblr media
“I think we are just scratching the surface in how we can empower women through design, a design to talk about these things which have a stigma”. Emily Atwood for Femme_Type.
Following her adventure at Pentagram, she left her position as senior designer to study at Type Cooper.
Emily’s first success within Type Cooper is to revive the Uraniya police. She then went on to create her own typeface, a process she uses to challenge the history of successful typography. She believes that the foundation of typography is language and communication.
“When you can develop that for a certain cause, the design becomes more meaningful and intentional. Even if not all the details of a designer's intentions are noticed, she explains, the overall effect can inspire and inform the viewer. The emotion behind the design is what makes it successfull.”
