Witchcraft is Dangerous

Obviously what I’m about to hash out is a bit nuanced so before any replies or tags I ask you read the ENTIRE post and give me the benefit of the doubt before assuming the absolute worst, if after everything you still disagree and want to open up dialogue about the topic itself I’m all for it, I’m not repeating myself. 

I have seen both sides of the “argument” that Witchcraft, especially for those new to it ‘is’ or ‘is not’ dangerous. I’d argue witchcraft IS dangerous, but not usually in the ways that people list as examples. 

I have said this many times but aside from groomers, cultural appropriation, misinformation, accidentally poisoning yourself or your pets, and supporting harmful industries (like crystal mines or sweatshop labor, shitty authors and so on) there are also… Magical consequences to your actions. 

To argue that witchcraft, even beginner, isn’t dangerous is in itself dangerous. Witchcraft has always had teeth, witchcraft has always been unpredictable, witchcraft has always been Othering. 

New or not, experienced or not, there is ALWAYS a chance that something can go wrong or end differently than anticipated. And with that there can also be danger. 

Spirits are real, deities do exist outside of your own practice, dangerous beings do exist and sometimes, are actually attracted to those who are new because they don’t necessarily know better or are too trusting. 

You don’t have to intentionally “summon” or call a spirit for it to just show up, and it can give a false name or title, it can make and break promises, it can cause harm for whatever reason it decides. 

Ignorance can put you in a place you shouldn’t be, old groves, crossroads, cemeteries, forgotten places. There are beings there that do not care who you are, and oftentimes they can inflict harm. 

The evil eye is real, witches aren’t the only ones capable of inflicting ill-will on you or tossing bad luck your way. Anyone can hurl something especially nasty your way, and oftentimes people assume they are immune and that stuff can really stick. 

Lastly I’ll leave you with a personal story because often my advice is lacking in that and I think it would better illustrate what I am trying to explain.

When I first started out in witchcraft, despite no longer holding the title, I swore an oath to a Being. I was new and I did not fully understand what that meant for me and how it would go on to impact my life. 

I no longer actively “work” with this Being, or most, but I still have a space set up for them. This is because that was a part of the oath I swore to them. When I decided that the oath didn’t have to be fulfilled because I was moving on I suffered really, really bad dreams, had horrible luck, and ended up having a lot of really difficult times in my life, especially in fields this Being had previously helped me navigate. 

It wasn’t until I set up their place again that things calmed down. 

You can chalk it up to whatever you like, but if you constantly finding yourself making excuses for the negative in witchcraft but embracing the positive you’re putting yourself in harms way, new or not.

It’s been a long time since I’ve posted on here. Now that my pregnancy is nearing the end and our little girl will be here in a month I can look back and realize what a whirlwind it was. We struggled to get pregnant, taking almost two and a half years. I was about to give up and look at other options for why we couldn’t seem to naturally conceive when it finally happened. I really feel having the time off during quarantine was really what my body needed to relax, slow down, and despite what was going on in the world it was wonderful for me to take that time to grow and heal as a person. I knew I was pregnant the very day I found out. I became extremely ill within those few weeks, and my happiness sank into depression as I was nearly too sick to function. It’s a horrible feeling when something you’ve wanted more than anything now becomes so much pain, but you only feel worse because you feel selfish for thinking that way and know that you should be grateful. The complications seemed to get worse the further I had gotten along, and I was hospitalized several times. To make matters worse there was an outside influence to try to destroy this happiness. It was then that I hit the lowest of my lows mentally and it took everything to crawl out of that place. Im so blessed to have my husband by my side to help me through that process. This has been a crazy journey of discovering our strength as a family and for me my strength as a woman. I feel our family bond has become stronger than I could’ve ever imagined. We are so ready to meet you little one. Much different than what I usually post on this page, but I guess life in general has been very different.
