There wasn’t a person in the country who didn’t know what you meant if you said you were heading “down to the A&P.” For decades, it was the highest-grossing retailer of any kind in the US.

Tower Records basically invented the idea of the media megastore: a retailer where you could get find books, audio recordings, and video recordings all in one location. It was wildly popular. Obviously, such a retailer would need to be reconceptualized for 2018, given the changes in our media diet…
