Cupid Appreciation

There was a prompt along the lines of: It's Valentines Day and Cupid decided that he wants a sacrifice for all his "good deeds" over the years.

So...

The very first thought that came into my mind was the classic "virgin sacrifice" and Cupid being like: "What is it with you mortals? Someone asks for a little sacrifice to get you to show some gratitude and the first thing you do is grab the nearest virgin and tie them to an altar. They are obviously not safe with you, so I will take them with me. But just FYI, I was aiming for some nice chocolates!"

Cupid in this case being Magnus, and Alec in this case being the sacrifice.

Advanced Pining

Malec pine for each other even when they are already together.

Alec: "He is so magical." Jace: "Yes, yes, we know, Alec." Alec: "Think he would go out with me?" Izzy: "… Alec, he is your boyfriend." Alec: "So chances of him agreeing to a date are good, right?"

Meanwhile on Magnus' side of things:: Magnus: "Do you think Alexander likes me?" Catarina: "You two have been together for one and a half years now." Magnus: "Yes, but do you think he likes me?"

Asmodeus and Magnus are both Shadowhunters

This one is a bit different than my usual fair, and a lot darker. So just be warned.

What if Magnus is a shadowhunter and grew up with Alec and the others, until the day he was "kidnapped" by warlocks.

Who Asmodeus, the current consul, has declared as all evil, as they are the literal spawn of demons. Alec, his siblings and other shadowhunters search tirelessly for him, but can’t find him. Months later, Magnus reappears at the side of warlocks and assisting them in freeing other downworlders from their incarcerations. Everyone is sure Magnus has been put under a spell by the evil warlocks to help them, and Alec is more determined to free his crush friend from their clutches than ever. But when he actually gets a chance to speak to Magnus, the other tells quite a different tale. How his father is the true evil one here and the warlocks (and other downworlders) being innocent, and how Asmodeus has everyone under his thrall.

But of course Alec and his siblings think Magnus is the one under thrall here. Which kinda ends up in a lot of kidnapping each other to make the other see the truth.

I thought, some shadowhunter lines have special powers, right? Like Clary and her mom being able to press things into paintings? So I thought maybe Asmodeus (and Magnus) can use their eyes to enthrall people? It was supposed to be a skill to be able to diffuse volatile situations to avoid unnecessary bloodshed. But Asmodeus trained his skill to be able to make all Shadowhunters believe him when he claimed warlocks (and other downworlders) are bad. However it doesn't work on Magnus since he has the same skill. But being indoctrinated into the belief, like all the other kids who grew up like this (i.e. Alec, Jace, Izzy,…) he believed what he was taught. Until the day he was "kidnapped" by warlocks (Ragnor and Cat?) who opened his eyes to the truth.

So Magnus knows that Alec and everyone else is under Asmodeus thrall, and Alec and the others think that Magnus has been brainwashed by the warlocks.

So Magnus tries to get Alec (and maybe his siblings if he can) away from the other shadowhunters long enough to break through Asmodeus thrall, while Alec (and his siblings) try to capture Magnus to get him away from the influence of the warlocks, so whatever spell they put on him can be broken

Murder Husbands

I have been in a "murder husbands" mood lately

How about crime family Lightwood and current head of the organization Alec, who meets Magnus in a completely normal place (coffee shop, book store, Park,..) and the two of them are smitten right away and start a relationship.

The longer it goes on, the more Alec agnoizes over how to break it to his wonderful boyfriend that he is basically the head of the mafia. Then one day the unthinkable happens and one of Alec's enemies gets their hands on Magnus.

When Alec and his Team find the location where Magnus is being held, they storm in, guns ablazing, and all… only to find Magnus standing in the middle of lots of corpses, a bloody knife in hand, and upon seeing Alec he goes "So, look, I was going to tell you, but how exactly do you bring up 'I'm a semi retired assassin' over dinner?"

When planets align, hilarity ensues

for three days, every 250 years, the planets and stars align in such a way, that the earth's magic and magical creatures are affected in curious ways.

And warlocks in particular can have… funny reactions.

Like when Magnus gives Alec an invoice for his services for something he did for the institute just then (ward maintainance or whatever) and instead of money or rubies like usual, the payment must be done in stray cats.

Cops and Youtubers

Non-Shadoworld cop AU The NYPD has an image problem. At best, civilians are disillusioned with the police, at worst, they are uncooperative or hostile. To counteract this, an idea is proposed. A Youtube channel. "A day in the life" style, episodic documentary. The division under Captain Luke Garroway has been elected to test it out. And since Luke's daughter is a youtuber herself, he manages to get her to be the assigned "host". She comes with her own camera man (Simon). Alec, Jace and Izzy all work for the precinct. Alec and Jace are detectives under Captain Garroway, Izzy is the station's head pathologist. While his siblings are rather taken with the idea (and the two youtubers who now regularly follow them around), Alec is not amused ™️ He doesn't like Clary, or Simon, or the whole youtube deal and being on camera. That is, until Clary invites one of her youtuber friends who is insanely popular on YT, to do a collab with the format in order to boost views. His name is Magnus Bane. And suddenly Alec doesn't hate the whole thing quite so much anymore.

"Why are you shoving your cat at me?" "Because he ate something he wasn't supposed to and I'm worried that there might be consequences. Could you check?" "How would I know?" "Because you said you were a vet!" "A veteran. Not a veterinarian." "Oh…."

Superhero cracky AU thoughts

Cracky thought of the day:

in case of superhero au, Magnus would straight out refuse to fight a villain wearing shorts. (… think about it, doesn't really scream "intimidating", right?… is there ever a villain wearing shorts?)

Magnus: "No. No can do. I'm out of here." Alec: "Magnus! You can’t just leave! We need to fight the bad guy!" Magnus: "My dearest Alexander, I'm sorry. But you cannot expect me to take this man seriously. Who robs a Bank in shorts? And… are those crocs? Oh my god they are." adressing the Bank robber "Have you no self respect, sir? This should be beneath you, and it is certainly beneath me. Now be a good boy and return the money and then you can try again once you have figured out your wardrobe." Alec: "Magnus!"

Alec actually isn't much better. His highly trained soldier sensibilities are offended™️ by most villains organizations. Alec: "This was your exit strategy? Really? Did you not think about the silent alarm and police response time? Did you study flight routes? Back alleys? Have you even looked at a blueprint of the building before storming in here with a gun? This is pathetic. Next time, do your homework first. "

Magnus the scholar

Magnus: "Darling, would you mind if I glamoured myself to look like a teenager for a few hours every day and enrolled in highschool? I need to know if TV's depiction of the mundane school environment is accurate."

Alec: "Is there a reason you need to know this?" Magnus: "Idle curiosity and an ever growing need to remind the shadow world as a whole that I'm an eccentric, centuries old, and very powerful warlock who does whatever he wants."

Alec: "Whatever makes you happy, Sweetheart."

Hilarity ensues

Side Malec stealing the show in a magical girl AU (just like they did in canon hahahahahaha)

Okay, look, I have had some wine, so please blame at least some of this cracky idea on the alcohol -

We are talking "Magical girl AU" the likes of Sailor Moon, where Magnus and Alec, - while the focus of the fic and intended romantic couple - , are actually in the role of the supportive characters.

While their younger "siblings" try to save the world with magic and corny lines.

Alec: "So Clary still thinks you have no idea about her magical vigilantism?"

Magnus: "The poor dear tried to convince me that she needed to go shopping for some flour, at midnight, because she wanted to make a salad when those demons attacked Central Park yesterday night. I didn't have the heart to tell her that there is no "flour salad". How about Jace and Isabelle?"

Alec: "Yeah, he tried to shimmy down the drainpipe while in his ridiculous costume, while Izzy "distracted" me from noticing with an improvised dance routine she said she wants to use for the next cheerleader tryouts. Never mind that I know she hates cheerleading."

Alec and Magnus of course shadow their siblings (honorary in Magnus' case with Clary - and possibly Simon?) and make sure they don't get in over their heads with whatever threat they have to fight. Occasionally taking care of the more dangerous things before their "magical" and totally incognito siblings arrive at the scene.

Visual Novel/Comic mundane AU

How about mundane au with Magnus and Clary being the creators of a visual novel/comic series

(Clary does the drawings and Magnus the story),

and the both of them taking inspiration for the characters from the people they meet at a local coffee shop?

Alec, a secret comic nerd and huge fan of said visual novel/comic, and completely enamored with the wizard character in the series, gets even more into it when the story introduces an archer character who is immediately flirted with by the wizard.

And is it just his imagination, or does the wizard kinda resemble the cute asian guy he sometimes sees hunched over his laptop at his favorite coffee shop?

Ever just have a scene, completely unconnected to anything, just pop into your head?

Alec: "I must admit, the rumors floating around you in the noble circle had me lightly concerned."

Magnus: "Oh? Which ones?"

Alec: "... I guess there are a quite a lot. You are as notorious as you are intriguing."

Magnus: "Flattery will get you everywhere."

Alec: "Most of the rumors are kind of generic, clearly born out of jealousy. But the one about you mistreating your staff nagged at me. I'm glad I was able to see how genuinely well liked you are by your household."

Magnus: "That's actually a rumor I hadn't known about. Would you tell me what it is about specifically?"

Alec: "They say you prevented one of your maids from getting married by kicking both the father and suitor out the door."

Magnus: "What? Who would spread such nonsense?"

Alec, sighing in relief: "So just as I thought, it's not true."

Magnus: "Of course not! I didn't just simply kick them out of the door. I threw them out of the window!"

I have somehow two settings for Magnus and Alec that are completely contradictory. For Magnus, both him being all super bamf like: "I'm over 400 years old and I have neither the time nor the patience to deal with your incompetence, so step aside and let me handle this you noob." But also being a bit …: "Ugh, do we have to deal with this serious matter right now? How about we let someone else be the adult and go have a little day drink?"

For Alec both being suave and confident as fuck: "Hey Magnus, wanna try out how many positions we can get through until my stamina rune runs out?" But also being shy and a bit insecure: "Izzy, this is serious. Do people celebrate a one month anniversary? Should I get Magnus something? Do you think this is too much? I don't wanna come off as clingy. But what if it's too little. I don't want him to think I don't care. Izzy? Izzy stop laughing and help me!"

Frenemies

I don't know if this makes me a bad person, but I kinda like that Alec doesn't like Clary. (even though he warms up to her later on). Let Alec and Clary be bitchy friends who tolerate each other for the sake of their lovers.

Clary: "I just don't understand why-"

Alec: "Ah, I see the problem. I have been talking in english, while you have been listening in dumbass."

Clary's phone rings. Jace realizes it's her favorite song. Jace: "New ringtone?" Clary: "I assigned it to Alec." Jace: "So you are finally warming up to him? Should I be jealous that you gave him your favorite song as a ringtone? And aren't you gonna pick up?" Clary: "No. That's why I gave Alec that tone. So I can listen to something I like while ignoring him."

Magnus: "Alexander! What luck that I found you this quickly. Isabelle just called me. Apparently Clarissa has stepped into a magical trap while she, Isabelle and Simon were in the seelie realm. I can disable it, but I need some manticore blood. Sadly I have run out. Does the institute have some?" Alec: "We do, but... How about we just consider the possibility of not getting her out?"

I have a thing for Alec manhandling Magnus a bit…
