fake dating to visit the parents for the holidays cliche except the parents know off the bat they aren't dating so they put the fake couple through some stressful situations to try to give them an excuse to "break up" but the craziness actually makes them fall in love a lil bit... 👀

"Closed," Henry over-enunciates, meeting them at the door and pointing to the sign hanging in the window. This isn't the first time the only night owl in town has shown up well past sundown looking for a caffeine fix; the only café in town closed hours ago, and his bakery's the only other place to get a half-decent cup of coffee. Normally he lets them in since he's just prepping dough for overnight proofing, but his coffee maker's currently disassembled in his sink. "I'm afraid you're just going to have to go to bed at a normal hour."

As he speaks he notices the bags under their eyes, the heay tote hanging from their shoulder—either they're studying or they're working and either way they're obviously exhausted, and he's starting to feel bad for turning the kid away. "You can come in if you can survive the wait while I clean the machine," he offers, swinging the door open.

"I'm sorry, what?" Suzy asks after a long pause. She hasn't seen him in years, since they were drunk in Vegas—for his birthday, or hers, she doesn't even remember—and now he's showing up on her doorstep and telling her they're married. And he wants a divorce. "Don't—" she interrupts when he starts to repeat himself, pinching the bridge of her nose and holding her hand out for the iced coffee he's brought her along with the divorce papers.

For the record, Janae doesn't read every client's mind. She can't, considering the amount of focus it takes. But sometimes, like this time, the client wants something simple, and they aren't very talkative, and she can afford to zone out for a minute while her hands work on autopilot. And sometimes, like this time, she slips into someone's mind and finds herself bombarded with images she'd rather not see.

She backs out of their mind, refocusing on the task at hand, but her hands are shaking, and it's not going unnoticed. "Sorry," she apologizes, dropping the brush back into the polish and standing up. "I think my coffee's kicking in. You mind if we break for a few minutes? Can I get you something to drink?"

For most people, there's no such thing as a second attempt at a first impression. Fortunately for Bambi, she isn't most people. So she approaches the bench outside the restaurant where her date is waiting for her for the third time, this time dressed appropriately for a venue (she didn't expect a first Tinder date to go down at a nice restaurant) and sans Starbucks (it's news to her that there's a boycott, but apparently her strawberry açai was a political statement).

Her date looks her over as they stand up, seeming slightly confused; probably experiencing déjà vu from seeing her in her previous attempts. "Hey! So nice to meet you in person," she greets, naturally going in for a hug before re-thinking the gesture. She hopes it doesn't feel awkward for them; she wants to do something right for a change, so she can actually let the date play out.

"You've ruined my life."

It's the truth, of course. Ava was only dating them to keep tabs on them while she ruined their life. But being called out for it? No, that ruins the fun. They aren't supposed to know that it's Ava's fault that they developed an addiction that's cost them their job and, soon enough, their home.

"Why would you say that?" she asks in a distraught voice. "I've done nothing—" She's on the verge of breaking character, so she turns away from them. "Maybe I should just leave."

Lauren scans the night sky as she makes her way through her neighborhood on her way back home; she'd swear there should be at least a crescent moon in the sky, but all she's finding are dimly-glowing stars. She tries not to go out at night when the moon's dark, especially not alone.

A cold wind whips around her; through her, as her nerves get the better of her, weakening her control over her atoms until they're dispersing. "Oh, shit," she hisses, the words blending in with the whistling wind as she becomes little more than dust in the air.

She abruptly snaps back together a few minutes later, inconveniently (and painfully) dropping from a few stories up onto a car waiting at a red light. "Ow," she says weakly, slowly sliding down to the asphalt. She glances back at the dent she left in the hood, the cracks in the windshield, and then looks at the driver. How much did he see? She should probably be running away right now, but she's frozen in place as she stares at him.
