yooo this is sort of late, but hi everyone! i’m EJ (21+), and i’m excited to be here with my boy yoon jinyoung (“the meteor”). will leave notes under the cut as a springboard for ideas, and you can see if anything resonates with you. i really do enjoy the plotting process, so let’s discuss! you can reach me on tumblr IM’s or discord (hyperstar_x) - or simply hit this post with a like, and i’ll make the rounds. catch you all on the dash!
background:
dad is a korean football (sOcCEr) legend / national hero, and mom is a ceo / heiress to a fashion conglomerate. jinyoung definitely took on after his dad, in part b/c kicking balls just seemed so much cooler than running a boring, old business. thankfully he has a sweet little brother (who he’s really close to despite being polar opposites) who takes on more of his mom’s proclivities, which balances things out in the household
grew up under the spotlight from day one (probably one of those “the return of superman” kiddos). turns out he's also really good at football, and he gets deemed the greatest “generational talent” since (surprise!) his dad, so is basically raised in a lab to be the biggest korean football star ever — think trainers, nutritionists, leading junior national teams, going back & forth to europe over school breaks for training
despite the pressure cooker, grows up a pretty happy kid. it’s a lot of work, but it doesn’t feel like work — he has a drive to be great and recognizes what rare opportunity he’s been born into. also hears a lot about how gifted and great (and cute) he is, so bro’s feeling pretty invincible. things come easy when you’re #winning
that is until age 17, when shit hits the fan. he loses his beloved little brother in a freak traffic accident… and his whole life & family sort of unravels. besides his brother’s passing, it’s also revealed that his dad has been cheating on his mom for years now, which sends the korean media into a free-for-all frenzy
jinyoung heads over to europe for an extended period now, which is good because he gets some breathing room doing what he loves, right? WRONG. his previously infallible work ethic and focus falls apart. a lot of partying and debauchery, which the media also picks up on, and all of a sudden, golden boy ain’t looking so golden anymore
he’s also mentally shot. there’s a heavy guilt / burden that he now needs to be great enough for both himself & his brother while overcoming his father’s shadow (fuck that dude, but also everyone still worships him? put ball in goal = good). somehow this incredibly toxic mix of motivation results in him performing well on the football pitch, but it’s just totally unsustainable
gets successfully called up to play on the big boy roster… but almost immediately tears up some shit in his knee, which quite frankly is like a death sentence in sports world. however, his camp urges him to trust in the magic of modern medicine. also they (led by a big push from his mom) urge him to come back to korea to enroll in yeonhwa and play collegiate ball as part of a holistic rehab process: physical, mental, and also… PR
he considers this a temporary stint and wants to get back to his pro career asap, but his mom is pushing pretty hard for him to at least finish his business degree… that way he has a path to taking over her business one day, given this knee injury might have just derailed any chances of him achieving true heights in the pro world. he’s really not onboard with that though, but is disillusioned with every potential outcome including even going pro….. but TBD!
personality / random musings:
definitely part of this new wave of “gen z athletes” who have big social media followings, plan out their pre-game tunnel fits, and have fans making tiktok edits of them (which he may or may not watch… only b/c they pop up on his “for you” page). all the boomers think this is “soft” and detracting from his “killer instinct,” but tbh nothing is as "killer" as dropping a goal in ur face and then posting a tiktok dance in the locker room after ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
will pretend to be simpleminded (not “dumb”; there’s a difference lol) even though he’s actually quite sharp both IQ & EQ wise. life is just simpler that way! so defense mechanism #1 is acting like he’s too much of a dumb jock to understand / care; #2 is acting like he’s “too foreign” / spent too much time abroad to get all this korean social norm stuff
calls himself the nonchalant final boss, but deep inside, is melodramatic af. will listen to sad boi, sad girl r&b while getting his lift in, which is sort of psychotic
once upon a time, was golden retriever coded (loyal, playful, outgoing), but has been in his black cat era ever since his brother’s passing. deep inside, he’s probably got that dog in him still 🐶
in some ways, extremely mature for his age (given he's been held to crazy standards his entire life and has gone through some shit) while simultaneously being the literal biggest child sometimes. checks out given the extremely lopsided developmental curve
mostly trying to keep to himself on campus. has not officially involved in much other than football, partially because he’s got a lot of shit to figure out, partially b/c his PR team is breathing down his neck, like “pls don’t do anything stupid.” will still do lots of stupid
that being said, occasionally does random side quests on campus (will "accidentally" find himself at random events), which started out as a bit / good social media content, but now he secretly enjoys(?) it. grew up as a pseudo public figure / never got to be a normal kid or teenager, so it’s novel for him to be around people with goals & interests other than kicking balls, even though he’ll be hard pressed to admit it
